  1. I think the series really has to go back to Lylat Wars for inspiration. That game was just so damn good and, despite the length, was near bloody perfect. It still holds up well today. It's not really about whether it should be on-rails or in all-range mode or even with other vehicles. What Lylat Wars taught us was that the way to make a potentially samey formula feel fresh every level was to mix and match these styles. Arguably the submarine levels didn't work but I would say that, on the whole, the tank levels were fairly good. Definitely worth having in the game even if they never quite reach the heights of the Arwing sections. One improvement I would like to see on Wii is biggest and more impressive bosses and set pieces. This hardware is capable of some pretty large scale stuff that could perhaps 'crank it up a notch'.
  2. Twilight Princess for me too, by some margin. MP3's was good but just because of the nature of the game, scanning etc, it seems slower to develop. More of a discovery thing than a paced adventure at times. Okami looks brilliant, shame I can't afford it atm but then you have to prioritise Smash :p
  3. I doubt the average America connection is anywhere near the average Scandinavian connection tbh. Europe is miles ahead of America. But both of them are miles ahead of Britain - we do, indeed, get screwed. That said it doesn't take an 8mb connection to play an online game - 500k would suffice.
  4. I'd much rather online multiplayer with proper stats tracking etc than an adventure mode. Sounds like it's basically a beat-em up.
  5. At least the PAL version shouldn't lag as much online given that people's connections are nearer. Maybe that could fuel you? I personally plan to play in some of the online ladders around atm - plenty of really big ones - and see how it goes.
  6. Sounds like there will be no HDD announcement at E3 to me. It looks like the storage solution will come from SD cards which, if you remember, can come upto 8gb in size - which is plenty! I don't see why songs couldn't be streamed from the SD slot. I actually think it's probably quicker than anyone realises anyway and more likely that nintendo never optimised the transfer of VC and save games to SD card properly.
  7. I think it's difficult to deny that Metroid would, at least, do a little better with increased marketing. Part of advertising is drawing people in with only superficial, but attractive, glimpses of your product. I agree Metroid is fairly niche but in terms of TV advertising it would appear to be another FPS. From this point of view I don't see why people couldn't have been drawn in, whether or not they would enjoy the game after buying is another matter.
  8. Actually, what shocks me in that list is the amount of good to very good titles in there. Given the doom and glow we're constantly fed about low Wii attach-rates I'm pretty glad. Sure a few casual games, and a few poor casual games, are in there but that's to be expected - check out ps2 last gen.
  9. European Brawl release date is confirmed! 27th June, still a long time to wait. Source: http://gonintendo.com/?p=41155#more-41155

  11. This is something I've been trying to work out how to do! How exactly do you recover from them?
  12. Yer, I was checking the time trial boards last night - it's not just luigi circuit but on lot of tracks the number 1's are using funky and that bike. We really need to know what it is!
  13. This might be a silly question but... is online only 100cc? (Ranked matches) If so that would seem a strange choice by nintendo, 150cc has always been the best.
  14. I was extremely pessimistic about this game. But, in the end, I succumbed to advertising and just got it. Best decision I could have made. The wheel works surprisingly well, though at the highest level I'm not sure you would be able to compete as best you can with it. That said, the online options are absolutely awesome. This is what Nintendo needs to do for all of it's online games. It's not xbox live but damn it's close, a million times better than Strikers etc. For once, I'm impressed with Nintendo.
  15. No I'm not and he most certainly did not! Been using this name since before he was probably born :p
  16. Leave him, Daz is just a lovable fanboy! (In a good way) Every forum needs one

    Wii FPS

I probably come from a v. different background to most on this site. I'm not a console gamer. I'm a hardcore pc gamer who likes nintendo games too. For anyone to suggest themselves as a hardcore FPS player and then go on to prefer a pad is ludicrous. There is very little hardcore scene on the 360, most of you probably don't even know the extent of esports etc. Keyboard and mouse is the best way to play, it's not what is the most fun it's what is the most effective. When your playing a game, in a team, for hours a night, competing on online tournaments and leagues and then going to LAN competitions for real prizes what counts is what wins. I think some people need to realise this difference. Whatever you think is most fun is personal and that's up to you to decide. But, let's not forget what a hardcore fps player (playing CS, CoD 4 or w/e) actually is.

    Okami

Nor me! But then I never owned a PS2, so I guess in some ways that's benefiting my Wii experience.
  19. That was clearly not Owen's point. He was simply suggesting that there are a lot of people on these forums who play more often than someone with those sorts of commitments can - and these are the people NOE's delays hurt the most. As for myself, I have a very busy life and don't have anywhere near enough time to play as much as I would like. Still, that said, I feel NOE really does take the piss at times with the delays. No release date for Smash Bros. when it's out in Japan and coming out in America in a couple of weeks is absolutely shocking.

    Okami

Nice shots Redshell - illuminates the problem nicely!
  21. To answer the most important part of that question, yes it's fun! It's also a good enough format that we might be able to do some sort of league like MSC.
  22. Chill guys? I personally think that Oblivion is not over-rated in the slightest. However, I think Mass Effect is. It's got awesome tech behind it and the story is decent but it's the game part that fails. I really dislike the controls, they just feel wrong.
  23. What is up with those graphics? I would expect nintendo to squeeze more out of the machine.
  24. Just out of interest where can you check game sales online? I remember there was a rankings site or something but can't remember what it was.
  25. I agree with a fair share of that. No ranking system was a bad move. Rankings are nice incentives to play and also would eliminate the player matching problem - just match people of similar ranks. This works well for online rts. Only reason it's not so great on MSC is the seasons are only one week long so the ranks never have time to settle. I'm also a bit miffed about the actual "mission" setup of the online. Would have been a lot better if you could just select a map and then also your faction you would like to play as.
