1 thing i remember being impressed with on Mickey's Speedway was how they got his ears right in 3D!

I thought Cruisin' on the N64 was decent... it's the Wii version that seems 2 generations behind I'm off to play the first extreme-G

Day 1: Perfect Dark and other Shooters
mr_bogus replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Played through around 1/2 of PD's single player yesterday. Impressions: - Started up. N64 spinning N morphs into Datadyne logo. Title screen. Ace music. Walked around Carrington Institute a bit. - Datadyne infiltration: Exciting music. Nice realistic exploration - the odd empty room, etc. Building still looks impressive. Blinding light glares everywhere. - Datadyne investigation: Grant Kirkhope's atmospheric music rules. Bit of backtracking finding all the experiments to shut down. - Datadyne extraction: Lights out! Retried 3 times - got wasted by the helicopter, then by the boss. - Carrington Villa: Easier than i remember. Graphics still hold up today. - Chicago: Still a nasty one - 1 step out of line and if the zillions of backup troops don't kill you, the framerate will. - GS Building: Unforgiving. Multiple retries. No checkpoints! Noticed how good the animations are & reactions to where about they get hit. - ASI Infiltration: Hey it's Goldeneye in mirror mode! Died too many times. Got too frustrated & called it a day. Overall impression: Still very playable, frustrating moments but still has 1-more-go-ness. Graphics are still pretty impressive, sound is great, playability's fine but framerate sucks (and i remember it getting even worse on the later Skedar-related missions). -
Perhaps that's a good reason to make it your platformer this week, who better to write a detailed review of what's wrong with it?

darksnowman has cranky's balls on toast. Glad you got it to try out, and yes it does get quite a bit faster.

Sounds like a great idea, but to accomodate not everyone having all the games listed, could you modifiy it to something like: Thursday = your choice of FPS Friday = your choice of kart racing game Saturday = your choice of 3D platformer Sunday = your choice of adventure etc Should get more variety & cover more games on the impressions too. darksnowman didn't mention DK64? *gets out the stethoscope*

Had an NTSC N64 with around 30-40 games which i'd been collecting over a few years, and it was stolen in a burglary. The same time places like CEX stopped selling all import Nintendo stuff, which was like a double insult. Got a PAL one soon after, but the speed difference stood out like a sore thumb. I eventually bought another NTSC console and built up a half-decent games collection from preowned sales, but still nowhere near what i had as it's become near impossible to find NTSC games. Some other gems that haven't been mentioned here: Rocket Robot on Wheels Top Gear Overdrive Gauntlet Legends (N64 version played best) Shadowgate 64 Extreme G (first one) Bangai-O and finally... Superman 64 (how could we miss out the best game ever made)

Update 3.3 hacked, homebrew alive & kicking again
mr_bogus replied to mr_bogus's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Apart from sticking it on a webpage & running it through the internet channel, i'd imagine it would mostly mean using a flash playing library. Lots of games use flash for menus etc these days. -

Should never have agreed to that threesome in the first place! Just kidding, DEFINITELY point out to the bf how you're not gonna go with someone that dumps his partner for another for obvious reasons, and try make him have a good think about what he's doing to his current/ex relationship and if it's worth it for zero consequence. Assure your close friend that you're not interested in his bf in that way (assuming you're not), so he can at least get a bit of peace of mind of no threat from your side. Be there for him like you are doing, it's all you can do at this stage.

Games that make you want to break your controller/swear.
mr_bogus replied to welsh_gamer's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Multiple final bosses without saving in-between almost always make me either want to throw the controller (or console if it's small enough) across the room. Finish a long arduous final boss fight, just managing that final blow when health's down to 2%, about to sit back & breathe a great big sigh of relief...then another even more difficult boss appears & kills you instantly. I've permanently stopped playing so many games for this reason: Sonic Advance 3, Zelda Minish Crap, Castlevania Lament of Innocence, P.N.03, and loads others. I prefer when there's something different eg. surprise button combo, "escape before everything detonates" mad rush, etc. My mates & i call this "getting gangraped". When every character has a go at you, 1 after the other. Hate it. -
Played this quite a bit now, my impressions: First the bad: - No bongo support (which is where most reviews seemed to call it a day & give it 4/10). - No online. Now the good: - Lots of actions that wouldn't be possible with bongos. - Damn fun to play & watch other people play. - Beautiful graphics and a rock solid 60fps. - Gameplay balance is tight. We're talking Jack Thompson's ass here - yes, that tight. Haven't had any Sega "why are they overtaking me when i should be 1/2 a lap ahead" or Mario Kart "Punish the player for being good" moments. - Loads of stuff from the DK universe reused - there's wasps zingers, barrels, Rambi, Enguarde, mine karts, and almost all the Kongs & Kremlings you can think of. - Boosts well laid out, so that you can theoretically chain boosts off barrels continuously. No more complaints that the game's too slow. It's a toughie to answer the "couldn't they just have kept in bongo compatibility" question - clearly it would've been nice to still support it even as a gimmick. But then there are clearly a lot more features in the final game than would've been possible with the bongos, eg. punching with the A button, pulling & letting go of the analog stick to charge up a boost, midair waggle combos for bonus bananas, etc. It's also unknown how much extra work cube controller (ie. bongo) support needs - out of the box with Wii development? Or need extra libraries, coding etc? Overall impression: definitely worth having, esp since you can get it for £22.99

Although the KK levels have some ace music.

actually, i was just referring to the apparent "oral sex orgies" that "pokemones" do in the park, which has turned out to be a complete media hyperbole anyway. But thanks for all the interesting facts, i'll remember Chile if i ever need to recommend a good place for incest, bestiality or paedophilia.
