This Ben Mattes fella agrees with me then:

If someone likes FPS games they will buy FPS games. They won't buy Halo, then Orange Box, then think: "No, I won't buy Timesplitters, as I already own 2 FPS games that I loved playing through". And the fact that people who own both a Wii and an Xbox chose in bulk to buy the 360 version rather than the Wii version doesn't at all give you the impression that people would prefer the 360 version? I hardly think toony aliens are going to stop people who own an Xbox from buying the game any more than they will stop people who own a Wii. Why do people have this idea in their heads that everyone who owns an Xbox is a dribbling imbecile only interested in the game with the most gore, the biggest explosions and the baldest space marine?

Right. So while developers are continuing to make linear games for the casuals, hardcore gamers are still shunned. It makes no difference. If you're going to hand hold the casual guy through the game doing the bare minimum, that casual guy isn't going to enjoy it as much as he could, so hes less likely to buy sequels, so it hasn't helped anything. And do you really think that dev's are going to make a video for every single outcome? Let's take Fallout as the example; one video for defusing the nuke in Megaton, one video for exploding it. Fair enough. How about further down the line when there are several ways to finish even the shortest quest: if the player has high lock picking they can pick the door, if they have high science they can hack the computer, if they have high explosives they can blow the building up. Are you suggesting that developers make a video for every single possibility for every single quest? You want them to stuff the disc with stupid hand holding guides instead of more quests, higher res textures and better audio?

I remember playing the skate demo when it was first released and never really "got" the controls. I tried this one too, and while I now have no problem with the right stick stuff, the thnig bothering me now is the clunky movement, the weird character models and the frankly pretty awful graphics. Now that I'm accustomed to the controls I may buy a second hand copy of the original, but I very much doubt I'll be getting this.

While I can see this working for the next Zelda game, this will fall apart as soon as anything non-linear is approached. Zelda is one of those games which can very easily be said whats happening next - you have to open that door, there is one way to open the door, and once you have done so, you will be presented with another door, which has one way to be opened, and so on. Apply this concept to anything remotely non-linear - I'm thinking here of something like Fallout 3 - and it falls apart. Since the removal of linearity is one of the key concepts being explored in gaming as a whole right now, from Fallout 3 to Scribblenauts via Crayon Physics and Banjo Kazooie, I don't see this system having any particular long term potential. It's a nice idea in theory - show someone how to do something if they get stuck - the evolution of gaming is taking it away from the one solution parameters necessary to work this system. So while we are all getting excited about the next Zelda game because thats what the MSPaint drawings depict, developers are going to have to be thinking about whether they want to holdback that evolution into true open world solutions and remain in the linearity of before while the "casuals" catch up. So in essence, this isn't moving anything forward at all.

Okay. But does that attribute to the entire difference in sales between the PS3 and Wii versions? The difference that has the PS3 in the top ten each week and the Wii outside the top 40? Considering the install base difference between the two? No. Right. Not as big as 360. So why would it be more sensible to see TS4 on Wii rather than 360? Why would games like CoD:W@W get a marketing push on Wii when it will sell better on 360? You're contradicting yourself.
-
Didn't Pantano drive for Jordan or Jaguar or somebody a few years ago? The name rings a bell to me. And why do Torro Rosso have such a thing for Sebastien's?
-
I find it hard to attribute such a large sales difference, especially considering relative install base sizes, purely down to lack of marketing. If you're saying it was the 360 version that was pushed, why is the PS3 version still charting? Sure it's a couple of places lower, probably down to marketing and install base, but it's up there. The Wii version bombed. I thereby think that Rummy's statement is somewhat based in fact, and the people arguing otherwise are simply ignoring this data in order to continue whining about publishers attitudes.

Sounds like we got ourselves a Tinky Winky on the loose. And whoever is the turtle needs to come forward methinks.

How did the sales for COD:W@W compare between Wii and 360?
-
Where the hell has a comparison with Half Life come from? It's in the first person perspective and thats about where the similarities end.

Ugh, school tomorrow. Really not looking forward to that, considering I usually get up for school at 7.30am and I was awake until 8.00am this morning...

I know, it's just not right. They kept Brock, but got rid of Misty? Wtf? Brock has a Croagunk now which does Misty's job of pulling him away from girls.

I wasn't even asleep at this point. Crazy. I watched 3 episodes of Pokemon this morning, to try and get myself to sleep. It's not as good as I remember, and they got rid of Misty. Wtf.
