But again, you can, and they often have done. A democracy doesn't mean the public gets to veto every single law...if such was the case, society would be screwed. Sometimes, as is the case with the smoking ban, laws that benefit people greatly (despite the fact that a huge proportion of people didn't want it, or at least in certain regions the opposition would have bested support) can be implemented by listening to healthcare professionals and projected statistics. Which is very, very wise. It's also like how abortions are illegal past a certain timepoint; again, protecting the unborn.
-
Yep, which is my point. It isn't down to the (mostly) ignorant public. And neither should some other things, since we'd constantly avoid them.
-
It's nothing like that. What we're talking about is helping future children who currently have no say in whether or not they'd like a serious illness or not (although if they could talk, I'd guess they'd say "No fucking thanks!"). Because they have no voice, someone has to intervene. This is nothing like taking away freedom. In fact, it's giving freedom. It's giving people that would otherwise perhaps have lives rather confined to healthcare institutions and indoors, and allowing them to enjoy life and the world. Actually, we can. And that's exactly what we did with the smoking ban. A democracy doesn't mean that we, the public, get to have a say on every law in the country. It basically means we get to choose our party. Chances are, if it was solely down to us we'd keep taxes as low as humanly possible.

I can't see the nation rebelling about curing life debilitating illnesses. The same reason people didn't rebel on the streets when they forced the smoking ban. The fact is, a lot of people are idiots, and they shouldn't be allowed a say in things. Some things have to be forced, because there's often always too many people who either object or sit on the fence compared to people with sense. So, yeah... True, but it's one of those things that is infinitely more feasible to cure at the embryo stage; a single cell, rather than target every afflicted cell in an adult body. Plus, if they implemented mandatory embryo screening then in 100 years time there wouldn't be anyone left (in theory) suffering from certain diseases.
-
So then they'd grow up disabled and the parent would have no money to manage their condition. That's totally batshit crazy. The only way to stamp out most genetic diseases is to pay no attention to anti-embryology hypocrites (since if they had one of these diseases, they'd support this in a heartbeat). An embryo is initially a single cell; it just has the potential to trigger the development of a human. Just like any two people in the entire world have the potential to produce a baby; to hinder incredibly useful, life-saving/changing therapy because of 'potential' is totally fucking nuts.

I think if anyone pretended they didn't care what people thought, they would be lying. I've often told people about stuff people say on this forum, since often ridiculous things can happen. A lot of us are on various forums anyway.

The real standpoint should be to allow genetic manipulation of embryos and screening to completely rule out these serious genetic defects, and to absolutely ignore anyone who has a problem with that. Such as certain religious groups with ridiculously backwards preachings.

Yeah, I bought it. A very fun game to play with a few friends.

Spent all of today with a few good friends playing squash, making stacked sandwhiches then playing a fun little roleplay type card game called Munchkin. I've never really played any sort of roleplay card game before, and I'd have to say that this was like a fun, relaxed card game that almost anyone could play. I wouldn't actually say it was really a roleplaying card game. It's just great fun, and I might consider getting it.

Well, in a way, knowing that it's in 3-1 might make them want to play that level sooner, which is a good idea since the clever rat's ring setup will help you deal with crystal lizards throughout the game. Also, quick tip. If you know a lizard has the capability to respawn at least once more after you killed it/it ran away (e.g. - say you've killed 2 bosses in a world and kill a particular lizard for the first time - it will respawn once more for each boss you have killed, therefore it'll respawn 2 more times). Position yourself where you think is a good spot (far away enough so it won't run; remember to equip the thief's ring). Then go to the menu and load the file you're already playing - you'll be standing in the same spot, but the lizard will have respawned. Saves you exiting the level and re-entering. Second quick tip - lizards don't detect rolling. So if you're good, you could roll right up to it to melee it with something powerful (although a bow with the clever rat's ring is by far the wisest and safest option).

You can miss the clever rat's ring quite easily. There's quite a few topics with people asking where it is... Save the Ring of Avarice for later (new game +) once you get the soul sucker ability. Soul sucker + 4-2 katana skeletons = possibly the best souls in the game. Although by then, you probably don't really need souls. Going past L120 is usually inadvisable since you can only get matched against people within similar level ranges, and most people stick around this range.

Ahh I don't think too many, I'm only on my second playthrough (not too far in, either). I think a lot of this stuff just sticks in my mind. Maybe 80-something hours? lol, I explored the area with him in and unleashed hell on his ass. By the way, make sure to get the clever rat's ring from 3-1, the Magic Sword Makoto from 4-2 in pure white and forge a Morion Blade using the Storm Demon's Soul (4-3 boss). My reasoning is above. :p

I'd love to know how you know that. Magic? Children as young as ten have fatty deposits in their arteries; mark my words, it's a ticking timebomb for everyone.

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan

No, please don't (as usual) be an utter fuckwit. He actually said that it was "convoluted beyond understanding". His words, not mine. Wipe the egg off, now. -
Clever rat's ring + meat cleaver + cursed weapon spell (MEGA damage) + second chance to allow you to live should you get hit. Take along a brushwood shield for 100% fire damage reduction to time when to hit (then switch with the Morion Blade), and maybe even the eternal warrior's ring (defeat old King Doran) for quick stamina gain, as well as the ring of strength that lets you equip more. Try do R2 (power attack) and he gets knocked down. As they get back up, do it again. It's literally cruel to just about any single enemy. I actually 1 hit KO people online...it's just such good fun. Don't use the magic sword Makoto...it's shit. The only purpose for it is to get you into the low HP range so that the clever rat's ring / Morion Blade effects activate (if you haven't got this setup yet; do get it now, since it's the best thing ever). Basically put the Morion Blade in the left hand, the meat cleaver in the right and wear a clever rat's ring. Put the magic sword makoto in the alternative left hand slot; start with the Makoto so that your HP gradually decreases. When it gets low enough, you'll see a rat icon at the top left; switch the Makoto for a catalyst to enchant your meat cleaver in the left hand. Then switch the catalyst for the Morion Blade. Boom. Damage.

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan

So if you were young and more ignorant, I don't doubt you found it harder to understand. The truth is, some people don't like the concepts of time compression or that Ultemicia only appears at the end of the game. But really...it's just all fantasy and time compression was one way of explaining how someone from the future was exerting influence on the past. And Ultemicia was there all along, as a puppetmaster. Either way, it's fair enough if some people didn't like it. Most people wanted a FFVII mark 2, and were left disappointed. It's great if you treat it as something different, and don't expect solid characters throughout. In my opinion, the three or four solid in-game characters is more than enough for the game that it is. -
lol, just realised how potentially more disgusting it is after looking at your signature image. :p

Maybe what streets they walk down too...

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan

I have no idea why you're posting that. His argument is that he didn't understand it / it doesn't make sense (his exact words were 'convoluted beyond understanding'), not that it was poorly written (although given the chance, I'm sure he'd have a nice argue about that too). It does make sense. I know some people don't like it (I'm clearly not one of them, among many other since it's often regarded as hit or miss), but it makes sense. No offence intended, but your interpretation of why you don't like the game doesn't mean it was poorly designed. Many people enjoy the actual content of the story and the characters within. -
Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan

I don't take it personally. To be honest, you seem to be coming across on these forums as a deliberately contradictory character; one person says something, and you'll immediately argue the opposite. For example: Now I'm not sure if you're deliberately trying to be a jerk, but it's sure coming across that way to me. Particularly as you often seem to respond negatively towards my posts or refute the core of what I'm saying. The problem here is that you don't have any substance to your argument. You complain about the plot being difficult to interpret, yet provide no reasoning whatsoever. Feel free to come up with something now. The fact is, the story is quite clear. It's the fault of certain individuals for coming up with loopy theories beyond what is logically sound; Squall dying (despite being there during the ending, in what is clearly meant to be a happy ending by the script writer rather than some insane mental trip of a person on the verge of death), or Rinoa = Ultimecia (again, the people pushing this make me think of the comic book guy from the Simpsons). So...yeah. If you had problems understanding the story then I'm sorry for you. I get how people don't like it...but not understand it? No. -

I think if you have difficulty understanding the story of a Final Fantasy game then this is the least of your problems. -

Yes, lots of people. But not you. -
Maybe if you're about 5 years old. It's really, really weak...I actually think the force of the ride could only excite a young child.
