  1. Norton's character is saying everyline that Norton and Pitt say. He is literally having an argument with himself. This is a real condition too, Schizophrenia look it up.
  2. Muahahaha I too was just joking, you fell right into my trap.
  3. I'm...I'm not sure if that should be taken as an insult or not... Actually though I just know other people that know alot and pick little things up. After this endeavor you'll have picked things up that you can pass on. Good to know. Bah you edited, now I have to. AMD actually has a very good upgrade route, their upcoming Deneb (Phenom II, Socket AM3) will work in with the AM2 Socket. AM2 will not however work in AM3. This is a pretty nice backwards compatible strategy really. Plus, Deneb runs like high C2D and Core i7, but there aren't really any real world results yet. Point is, if you have an AM2/AM2+ board you have a viable upgrade without dropping 300 on a new board. Oh and the Phenom II's can apparently hit 4Ghz on Air cooling and reportedly can go much further (beyond 6) with Liquid Nitrogen.
  4. They're still cheaper though. It would also give you a working rig.
  5. Yea.....no that's not going to happen. I would have conceded that technically time would go back day become night, but not events.
  6. Same principle though. For clarity, are we talking turn back events, or just time as 2 am-1 am-12 am-11 pm.
  7. If you turn a clock back are you going backwards in time? It's the same damn principle.
  8. If he goes with an AMD dual-core he'll save a fair bit over the E8400, not so much over the Motherboard but a little. The only real bad thing is that your not going to get much of an overclock on an AMD. Performance differences are mostly negligible.
  9. Do you mind going AMD? Well, nevermind I'll make suggestions anyways. Mobo1 Mobo2 Quad-core(slightly more than the E8400) Dual-Core(65nm)
  10. It's about 10 inches long iirc so is the 9800/8800 give or take an inch or two. @McPhee, your Gigabyte board is a P35 right? I believe those are old enough to require the update, as I heard it anything older than a P45 will need it.
  11. I really don't understand the confusion....Basically the way Dannyboy explained it sounds correct to me. Austin and Felicity were just confused.
  12. It's just the motherboard Booting up essentially. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherboard#Bootstrapping_using_the_BIOS The motherboard will POST(Power On Self Test), for whatever reason it gets called posting. Some will power up like this and tell you that you have problems or whatever and won't go further will others depending on the problem won't post at all. It your does post with a incorrect CPU you should be able to Flash(update) the Bios to the latest version.
  13. Yea.... it does seem random. Anyways, it seems that if your board will post you can update via USB. http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=121159.msg914880 It's an "if" though. If you do decide not to risk it and get a new motherboard. Consider saving on the CPU also with either the E7300 ~90 or for even less the E5200 ~65. The E5200 isn't a Core 2 Duo it's a Pentium Dual-Core, but from what I've heard the PDC aren't as far behind C2D as they once were.
  14. This is about the closest I came to figuring out the C0/E1 issue. It's not very helpful though http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/611 Anyways, maybe you should consider just getting a 65nm CPU instead. Yes it isn't quit as wonderful, but they are still great preformers. Some may even be cheaper. The other option is, find a friend who built a PC and see if they have a 65nm CPU you can borrow long enough to update the bios. OR. buy the cheapest crappiest 65nm you can find Like this. I use newegg because compared to everyone else they have a much more navigable site, unfortunately they don't ship outside of the US, but They can give you a list of just 65nm CPUs instead of making you wade through 45 and 65...
  15. Has anyone played Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines? There is a character Jeanette with 2 personalities. That is essentially Durden and the other guy, when they're having a conversation it's really just one person talking to himself. When the two of them fight it's really just one guy beating the shit out of himself while taking imaginary punches. When he's shagging Marla he's thinks it's Durden and just can't sleep. It's really him and that's why he can't sleep.
  16. Hmm, I got a more definant answer on the Mobo/45nm CPU thing. According to my other sources, it'll need the bios update, of course according to asrock themselves it seems it'll be fine..... We'll just wait see. Even if it happens to need the update I think there are a few different things to make updating possible.
  17. I really don't get why were spoiler taggin the matrix, it came out 9 years ago. I'd say after 3-5 years something becomes fair game.
  18. Nothing about Jim Carrey makes sense at all.
  19. well, first programs really need to start utilizing quad-cores. After that however is most likely going to be threading. Intels new Core i7 has hyperthreading which even though it's only a quadcore it's recognized as 8 cores all going at a very highspeed. there isn't much that uses it yet htough.
  20. If you go with McPhees build, the P35 falls into that trap of needing a bios update I believe.
  21. If I'm reading this correctly, yes your motherboard should support it with any bios version. http://www.asrock.com/support/Yorkfield.asp Btw, your CPU is wolfdale, not yorkfield
  22. Alright, it appears that both the 4850 and 9800GTX+ only require 450W or greater. So in the short term you'll be fine, but I'd suggest upgrading at a later point. Although, since I'm me.... 600W £20+shipping At such an abnormally low price.....I'm just not sure about that. IIRC it's a decent brand though, but I'm not sure. Used in conjunction with this case though it'd be similar in price to what you've choosen....I think, just stick with what you've got so long as you upgrade when the cash flows again. I just remembered something that may be dire about your motherboard. Let me check before I say anything I may regret. EDIT: anything older than P43/45 or newer x48 mobos usually requires a bios update to run the new 45nm cpus, if you dont have a spare 65nm core 2 lying around, then things are gonna be a little hard. From a different forum, and I asked in a thread about whether or not the same applies to 650i mobos(since there on/past 750i). You have selected a 45nm CPU so if the same applies you could be in a bit of a pickle. I don't know yet if it is the same seeing as how they're different brands and whatnot. I don't know how long a more knowledgable reply will take.
  23. Get offa mah laptop! If you go with the one Konfucious posted it'd be less than the 8800, even after shipping. The last reservation about getting the card is your PSU. I don't see anywhere else that you can really cut down enough for the PSU either, unless a cheaper case sans PSU... Also, I'd say the same things about the PSU even if you deffinantly stay with the 8800GTS. Although I think at most they may be rated 450-500W it' never bad to be higher.
  24. You've got to squeeze every penny! *squeezes until penny is absorbed into hand* Truthfully I just like doing this kinda of tech oriented thing so I end up being semi helpful to others. Oh dear, you ninja posted in before me ATI cards of the 2xxx series (R600) were bad compared to any Nvidia equivalent. The refabs 3xxx series(R670) were a notable thorn in Nvidia's side, but nothing they were truly worried about. However, with the 4xxx series (R770) all of their cards were priced lower than Nvidia while performing the same or better. As a result Nvidia was forced to cut prices across all cards to compete, unfortunately in ATI is still performing the same or better at the same or lower prices. The 4870(flagship low-highend (X2 varients are high range) card) launched at ~$300(don't know about UK prices) half the price of the GTX280 yet it performs anywhere from the lower-same-better. That's in a nutshell, there is a bit more to it but less exciting details.
