  1. Yeah with my desire I found the battery life improves after the first few discharge recharge cycles. I tend to get between 14-16 hours with my current heavy data usage. If I'm being a power saver my max battery life has been about 23 hours. As for insurance I upgraded my current account which includes mobile phone insurance among other things which gave me a few good savings. There are a ton of apps you'll want to check out. And apparently the froyo update is scheduled for August. Quick list of apps for you to grab: 3g watchdog myPlayer Movies Color note Astro file manager Rings extended Zedge Worth a look: Google goggles Layer reality browser Cardio trainer Dropbox Last.fm keyring scanner Barcode scanner Metal detector Shopper Skyfire browser Snesoid Wave secure Swype What the doodle Meebo IM
  2. This is WIN. LOL his face is just class.
  3. Well most phone manufactures keep the phone's antenna in the bottom of the unit. If they put them at the top, there wouldn't be any problems with your hand blocking any signal. But instead you'll slowly be frying your brain from the emitted radiation. Thats' why most phones have these at the bottom away from the head. In the iphone4's case, the problem is that part of the antenna is exposed which more easily allows for the body to become an inhibitor. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I believe if they were to change the design a tad it could work, perhaps not make it flush with the unit and surround that area with some translucent material.
  4. Downloaded the demo but the stupid thing is online multiplayer only. Will check it out tomorrow. Depending on what I enjoy more between this and crackdown 2, I'll be getting. Will probably be this.
  5. You seriously should have just got any old case from off ebay. Even some Duct tape fices the antenna issue. On another downer, it seems that many users aren't getting the 38 hours - 4 days battery life as reported by Josh T Walt M and some other guy. http://ow.ly/23q4b Although it would be pretty awesome if I did have up to 4 days battery life. Think I'll jump on the iphone bandwagon at 5. I need a dev unit.

    Wii Party!

I'm going to go out on a whim and say less mario party clone and more stage debut reborn
  7. Well lets see, I before I graduated I signed up to every student meets employer website under the sun. Here are the two I can remember. http://hotprospects.org.uk http://gradcracker.com There is another one that I can't quite remember. Could have been jobs by email: http://www.jobs.ac.uk/ Then I signed up to various job websites: http://www.monster.co.uk http://www.jobsite.co.uk http://www.jobstoday.co.uk Then as a fall back I decided freelance: http://www.peopleperhour.com Fact of the matter is you might not get where you want to be straight off the bat. But if you can identify stepping stones, it's probably the best way to go. I finished Uni around June, graduation was around mid August. I was still working part time until August end of August, when I went on holiday to Florida. Came back in September where I started actively job searching, managed to land a job in December where I had been turned down for a job at a company I applied for but they ended up creating a position catering to my needs. I'm still working there fulltime while trying to set up a company of my own.
  8. Here is an interesting blog post that explains how the antenna issue might have been missed/ also exactly why and how it occurs: http://www.antennasys.com/antennasys-blog/2010/6/24/apple-iphone-4-antennas.html Personally I have mixed feelings about this. Is it a design flaw? Or is it just a case of it being a small issue with work arounds that shouldn't put you off getting the phone. Personally this issue isn't big enough to stop me from a purchase if I were that way inclined as a £3 purchase would fix it while protecting the device at the same time.
  9. The official word from steve is avoid holding it in a way that causes the signal to decrease. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/apple-responds-over-iphone-4-reception-issues-youre-holding-th/
  10. Well windows 7 has media center built in. Although you could go for vista home premium if you wanted to try and cut down on OS costs. I'm not too sure in terms of apple, but I hear a new version of apple TV is on its way in an iphone sized form factor (that's what the rumour mill said) In terms of the machine being fan less / ultra quiet I'm not sure what cpu you could get away with without jerky performance but I'd probably go AMD to make a low cost media pc. As for the GPU I think you can get away with the ATI Radeon HD 4550
  11. Well the way it was put across at WWDC is that the new antenna design was to alleviate the issues that previous devices had with signal quality. For some reason it doesn't seem to work as planned. From news reports I've read its predominately a left hand issue. I wouldn't bother buying an official iphone 4 bumper case. Knock offs will be hitting ebay next week from 2-5 quid. Scratch that they're already here. Damn they're fast.
  12. WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH. I refute these allegations. I actually commended apple for the design at the time as it seemed to address the signal issues. Which I considered to be brilliant engineering. Now that it's in the hands of consumers many people are finding this not to be the case which sucks to be honest. A smartphone is no small investment. I must admit the picture I posted sans sauce (mmm.. sauce) probably didn't add as much to the discussion, however I was at work and hoped to amend it later with more relevant information. Here is the source to the cnet article where the picture originated from: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39029453,49306007,00.htm Here is the same website with a proposed fix. I haven't read the article yet so it may or may not be ridiculous: **Link removed. It was ridiculous Fact of the matter is a bumper case will probably solve all issues, and is probably recommended.
  13. So did any of you that tried brink and mortar get lucky? Seems like online and phone has been the way to go really. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/24/iphone4_retail/ Reminds me of when I was trying to buy my ht....... nevermind wrong thread.
  14. Possibly a little after. Everything went down in 08 so could be before, could be after. I'm pretty sure one Retro guy said that they have been working on it for the past two years. Either way hats off to them. They had to learn a completely different graphical style to what they're used to. In one interview someone stated that one of the graphics engineers made a metroid prime looking palm tree. Which I'd actually like to see. Still holding out for raven blade to come out one day. Even if it turns out to be crap.
  15. The desire comes with quick office which allows you to read MS office docs. If you want to edit you have to purchase full version which might be around 10 quid. There may be alternate apps with the same features that come in at a lower price. As for learning Japanese, my only experience was with this adventure game where you'd have to reply to and answer questions. Can't remember the name though. Quick list o' apps: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/learn%20japanese There is also google translate available which may or may not be of assistance.
  16. Its nice to see Donkey Kong finally return, but also perhaps explains why a few key people left retro studios to create armature. It would be nice if Retro were allowed to create some original IP's instead of always being tasked with reviving older ones. But I suppose its nice to see DK in a game that isn't just about banging drums to crappy music. Although Jungle Beat was pretty cool.
  17. I'm glad that the ending is open ended enough to finish the series enough there. But also there's enough there in case some other studio picks it up.
  18. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooook NOW!!!! I'm getting a 3DS. This just tipped the scale.
  19. Watch the chaos: http://fun.drno.de/flash/rocky_is_back.swf
  20. I have a health issue also. Should the first post have left me laughing for such a long period of time. I think I fail to understand the severity of the issue.
  21. Well I'm sure it will look better once your in front of it, but after experiencing the first 1.5 games I'd have to stick to the PC on this one. It just seems like the whole story has gone alien 3 and for me fighting the Alien invaders was the most bland parts of the game. Plus one flying mission as the controls weren't so hot. Anyway I think this is the first time I've heard a swear in an E3 conference. Talk about being professional. + Edit, bullet time or whatever - Madworld with guns x mass effect? And scared the dick off me? Who comes up with these lines.
  22. WTF HAVE THEY DONE TO MY CRYSIS Hope you've all put on your glasses.
  23. Well I was thinking for Kinetic? the name is going to take a while to sink in. That there shouldn't be any visits from the peripheral police. You know Kinetic wheel, Kinetic Zapper, Kinetic Balance board, Kinetic Vitality sensor, Kinetic-chuk. Of course not having anything in your hand will be kind of weird. And the lack of force feedback or any interaction on a physical level would mean they'd have to make some truly great experiences to captivate an audience.
