  1. So my copy arrived this morning, I grabbed my Pro Controller and blew the dust off it all ready to play... Pro Controller doesn't work. I hadn't used it in so long that it had no charge whatsoever! Anyway, plugged in the USB cable and got playing. Have gone through the first world, and initial impressions are actually pretty good. It's definitely going to take me a while to get used to the way DK moves again though, it's kinda sluggish. I remember thinking the same when I first played DKCR on Wii though, and quickly got used to it. What I do like is how you can choose to use the control stick over the D-Pad, which means you don't need to hold down a button to run. But yeah, game looks great (really great ) sounds amazing (obviously) and is a lot of fun to play. So despite my lack of hype, it seems like I'm gonna enjoy this one after all. Worst thing about DKCTF so far is in fact the load times. There appears to be quite a lot of them (before and after every stage) and they can take quite a long time. It takes around 15-20 seconds to load each level, which is weird after the instant loading in SM3DW. The characters also occasionally stutter as they run across the screen during loading too, I wonder if that's only on the disc version of the game. Is anyone downloading this from the eShop? Would be interesting to find out if it's the same on a DD version, or if the load times are quicker.
  2. 60 fps gameplay footage on YouTube: Very clever. Only works with the HTML5 player though, not flash.
  3. No way! Brian Blessed's voice instantly makes you pay attention to that ad, Attenborough would just put people to sleep. Pretty crappy ad though, 30 seconds long but only 4 or 5 seconds of gameplay.
  4. I was just admiring the artwork for this game, when I suddenly noticed one of those "cannot be unseen" things. Like Pierce Brosnan's elongated gob on the cover of GoldenEye, and the Giraffe Blowjob of the Resident Evil 6 logo. Did this in Photoshop to highlight that which cannot be unseen, check it out:
  5. We shall see.Even though I'm not a huge fan of Metroid, I do of course wish a new game would appear on Wii U (and truth be told would actually rather be playing it this week than DK ) but I still don't believe it'll help change the fortunes of Wii U. Anyway... let's get back on topic here, ey?
  6. I get your point, obviously Nintendo doesn't see it that way though. It has to be the reason why they're so reluctant to revisit certain franchises, Metroid included.
  7. It is. But I'm pretty sure that's the only perspective Nintendo are interested in right now. Donkey Kong franchise to date = 53 million Metroid = 14 million Seems like a no-brainer.
  8. What are you basing that on though, Dazzy? Because it sure as hell ain't on the sales of past Metroid games. Seriously, a Metroid game on Wii U would probably wouldn't even manage half of what DK eventually will.
  9. Yep, seems a perfect fit.I'm still hoping that there'll be a way to create custom decals like in MKDS, using the touch screen though. But anyway, back on topic... Is Pokémon Rumble the only Wii U game to make use of the feature so far? I've not played that game, so what's the deal, do you just hold the little figure over the GamePad and it suddenly appears in the game? Do you only need to do it once, or does scanning it multiple times do something too? Just wondering if the NFC feature can be used in real-time as a gameplay mechanic?
  10. So is there no chance that MK8 could use the NFC feature? Would be a pretty cool way to unlock special karts/bikes: Although I'm not sure if I'd like it in MK actually. This NFC idea has the potential to be annoying if some of them only get a limited release and are difficult to get hold of.
  11. 99 days to go. Wish me luck...
  12. Same here. Speaking of which...
  13. My copy is now on the way too. Still not massively hyped, but I reckon that's going to be a good thing going into this game, as I'll probably end up enjoying it a lot more than I'm expecting to. Just hope that the disc drive on my Wii U still works it hasn't been used in ages!
  14. Cheers. Yeah, that Mario Kart countdown especially... 99 days! Are there many eShop titles with "confirmed" release months now then? Will look into it anyway.
  15. @Ashley & @Shorty, I asked about this before (ages ago) and I think the response was that it could be done but would effect all threads, but I'm wondering if forum technology has improved since then. So yeah, is it at all possible to have a specific thread display the first post at the top of every new page? As that would be quite useful for this: http://n-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54101 Not hugely important though obviously, just wondered if it was now possible/easy to do. Cheers. : peace:
  16. Cheers for the suggestion @Ville, I've made that change to the list. The problem is that when games only have the month of their release specified they tend to change, and I don't really want to be faffing around with having to constantly move titles on the list. And as you mentioned, indie titles usually only get confirmed dates right before launch, so I've actually removed all of the eShop stuff from the ??? section, and left only the retail games. Think this (and the change that Ville suggested) makes the list a bit cleaner and more straightforward. I will obviously still add all of the eShop/VC titles, as and when they get confirmed release dates. : peace: *EDIT* Added little countdown timers to retail games too!
  17. That's taking into account Metroid Prime 3, which was on the Wii and still sold way less than the original Metroid Prime on GCN.Fact is, DK and Mario have always outsold Metroid in the past, and continue to have the best chance of doing so now. Metroid is infinitely more needed at the moment for us, but as far as Nintendo is concerned it's the last thing they need. Why spend the time/money producing a Metroid game that's essentially guaranteed to give a miniscule return compared to a Mario or DK platformer? It's the same story with F-Zero. That franchise has sold around 6 million in total, but compare that to Mario Kart, which has sold almost 100 million, and it's pretty clear why Nintendo choose to focus on MK and ignore F-Zero.
  18. Yeah, I believe Donkey Kong Country Returns sold more than all of the Metroid Prime games combined. So in terms of trying to achieve sales, DKCTF is absolutely the right decision for Nintendo/Retro Studios.
  19. Those visuals ... that music ... the sound effects and canned laughter... Major Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon vibes. Another vid: I am so getting this game now.
  20. I mean it's unlikely I'll get it at release, but will keep it in mind as a future purchase.
  21. Yeah... that was a pretty bad showcase of this on the ND. Xenoblade isn't a particularly good game to watch someone else play, but the real-time combat system is actually awesome in that game. It'll no doubt be the same with X, but it just doesn't come across well in that footage. Oh man, I hope this also includes a Japanese voice option then.
  22. I quite like this game, only played it for an hour or so but it seems pretty good. Not exactly the usual F2P style though, where you can access most (if not all of the content) but it just takes ages, so spending money will speed up the process. The free version of Sub Wars feels much more like a demo really. And as has already been mentioned, the lack of friend matchmaking is insane. So yeah, don't reckon I'll be getting the premium version.
  23. Updated the list with release date info from the ND. That lack of blue titles... My purchases are probably going to go something like this... Feb: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Senran Kagura Burst March: Nowt. Yoshi is looking way too similar to the SNES version, plus I'll be busy with DK and the booby game. April: Nintendo Pocket Football Club and possibly NES Remix 2 May: Mario Golf: World Tour Mario Kart 8 Will save Kirby for a future drought.
  24. I can't stop watching the new trailer, sends shivers up my spine every time! Wish Nintendo would've revealed some more info last night too, but I suppose they want to keep it back for the inevitable MK8 Direct. Which is probably for the best, as too much revealed in advance will just make the wait even harder! I've been checking out some of the new artwork for the game though, it's really nice. They've got Lakitu rocking a TV camera with the MK TV logo on it. A lot of the items appear to have new renders for this version too, including the Red Shell. *saves for future avatar/sig* How am I going to cope with this 105 day wait? I highly doubt that. There should be at least 2 weeks from launch date before starting the league, in order for everyone to get used to the new gameplay and unlock a decent amount of characters/vehicles. Lostmario's call though.
