  1. That would've been important information to know. Even if the price was the same, if you don't use handheld mode, get the PS4 version. Just make sure it is XI S. The soundtrack on the original version is not good.
  2. Funny that you mention that, I'm literally playing it right now. There's a surprising amount of subtle differences with the mechanics compared to 2D. It really feels like I'm playing some kind of grand remake of DQ 11.
  3. Yeah @Mandalore, big long RPG's like this benefit from the portability factor of consoles like the Switch a lot. The lower resolution is very negligible, you wouldn't really be able to tell there's a downgrade unless you look at the two versions side-by-side. It's a very impressive port! The cartoony artstyle helps disguise it very well. It's also easily in my top 3 Dragon Quests. (Granted, I've not played the first three or 10 yet) You don't see RPG's on this scale very often these days.
  4. Out of the hundreds of 1V3 games the numbered games have, you chose to bring back that one!? If your Joycons aren't drifting, they damn well will after a few games here! I hope you don't need to click the stick in this game. Because I'm totes using a Gamecube controller for this now.
  5. OK, this is definitely going to need more then 1 video! Thanks to everyone who took part, it was proper nutso!
  6. Might be a couple of minutes late, just bear with me. EDIT: Room's open now.
  7. Oh right. Before I forget. I'm thinking of starting the night with Stamina and then swapping to Time halfway through at 9-ish. And yes, this is purely because of the special thing that happens when Sora wins a Stamina match.
  8. Yeah, it certainly took a long time to get there, but the WiiU makes a really solid Virtual Console machine now, especially if you're looking for first-party games. The two GBA Golden Suns are there as well. And the DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeons. (Although Rescue Team is a bit redundant now that the Switch remake exists)
  9. Or he wants to play some EarthBound. Weird that StarFox 2 is on NSO but none of the 2 EarthBound games on the WiiU are. It bugs me.
  10. Ummm... This is oddly specific! EDIT: I'm suddenly reminded of that newspaper article that actually mentioned that K.Rool got into Smash. How the hell has that croc got more media coverage in 3 years then in the entirety of the 90's?
  11. In truth, I've played Tetris Effect: Connected before when it was on Game Pass... but I never talked about it for whatever reason. Now that the Switch has a port of it and I played it again, now's as good a time as ever. You know what Tetris is, and this is that, but really colourful and pretty! Particle effects up the wazoo and scenic backgrounds all serve to make this more of an experience then a game. There's well over 30 different themes to stack blocks to, and each one comes with different sound effects, aesthetics, and music to accompany it. The production values are off the charts, which is certainly odd for Tetris. Apart from the main Journey mode, there's plenty of other modes to enjoy depending on your mood. Chill out with "Chill Marathon", where you can't get Game Over, or test your focus with "Target", where you have to erase a specific block by including it in a Line Clear. That one is a particular favourite of mine. The Connected aspect of the title refers to the Multiplayer features added. 4 more modes where you play co-op or competitive Tetris. They're perfectly fun, but I'm a big fan of "Classic Score Attack" where you compete with another person for the highest score. The twist, however, is that this forces you to play with NES Tetris rules. (No Hard Drop, blocks lock in the moment they touch the floor, truly randomised Tetriminos, etc.) It's an utterly brutal mode, but strangely enough, I actually do pretty decently here. I put it down to the fact that my opponents can't pull any T-Spin shenanigans, so they're dragged kicking and screaming down to my level. The funky Swan Lake remix here is also great. (EDIT: Actually, is it Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy? I'm not sure, still catchy though!) This supports cross-play as well, so you can play with people playing on an XBox or a PC! Not on a PlayStation though, because Sony has to protect all the kiddies from us Switch degenerates. Tetris 99 is certainly a lot of fun, but I think I prefer Tetris Effect. Tetris tends to stress me out, so it's nice to have a relaxing version (sometimes) to fall back on. No idea how that happened... WarioWare: Get it Together! came out quite recently. Like most of the other entries, the game focuses on throwing short microgames at you all in a row while you attempt to last as long as possible. Get it Together's gimmick is that you control the WarioWare crew directly in order to clear each game. Each character has a different way of interacting with each game. Wario has his classic shoulder barge, Ashley can fire spells in any direction, and 9-volt makes you wish he hadn't shown up to this game at all. It all serves to add a unique spin on the WarioWare formula, and certainly helps to keep things fresh as you chase those high scores. It's just as insane as you'd expect and is a right laugh, especially in co-op! There's quite a few multiplayer games that really get some mileage out of the main mechanic. The two big downsides, however, are the lack of voice acting. (It's there, but not as fully featured as WarioWare Gold), and the lack of completely pointless toys to play with. That second one is really noticable and is a real pity. Still, it's solid, and I'll probably keep coming back to it each week to take on Wario Cup. As kinda hinted in my response to @Aperson's post about it. I also played through Deltarune: Chapter 2. Don't really wanna say too much, because the humour really carries this game and the less I show, the better. Much like Undertale before it, it's an RPG where bullet hell mechanics are used to avoid attacks. It's got various tweaks to the structure to help make it more distinct though, such as controlling a party of 3 characters and obstacles outside of battle to manuever around. It's all very solid and each enemy feels very different to fight, due to how dodging attacks work. Anyway, won't say much more, but I did go down all 3 routes for this chapter. The third one was... tough. A real test of skill! Both chapters of this are free, BTW. So you really should give it a shot. There's no excuse. You don't even need to have played Undertale. Barely anything to do with each other.
  12. At least there's a good chance that this will bloody work then. Given up on getting that Caped Zarude. I keep getting useless responses from the Pokémon Newsletter responses...
  13. Welp, one last chance to make this joke. PS All-Stars's roster has more than twice the characters pictured above, and it's still an utter joke in comparison! And that's why I think Sakurai's reputation was the key difference between the two. Companies trust him with their IP's. And he's more than earned that trust throughout the 3 latest Smash entries. And to think that rep all started with his close friend, Hideo Kojima, asking him to put Snake in, and then Sega jumping on board once they found out third parties were allowed in Smash. Who knows when, but there will come a time when he has to stop running the Smash team, and I'm fairly certain there'll be a drop off in third party interest in response to that. Anyway, Sora Character Night is this Saturday, reserve your spot on the online thread if you're interested.
  14. Yeah, and Zoroark can look like any Pokémon it wants to! So by default, it's the coolest and the cutest Pokemon!
  15. Well, they better stop asking to localise Mother 3 then.
  16. So incorrect. The Illusion ability makes it an infinitely more interesting Pokémon. What's Lucario got? Inner Focus? How boring!
  17. Wow, they managed to make Zoroark's hair even more of a gigantic mess! I approve! Zoroark was always cooler than Lucario, I have spoken, thus it is so.
  18. Right, the results are in, but we need to clean up a couple of ties... or 7. Now, for the sake of our sanity, I'll be ignoring the many trailers that got no votes here. I'm gonna show you a bunch of trailers that got the same amount of points and are thus, fighting for a place. Which place? I'm not telling you that. I want you to pick one from each set. What you pick will get one point and the trailer with the most points wins and will get the higher placing. Simple. I will abstain from this and break any other ties that may happen. Ready? Set 1 - Looks like we don't have a choice! VS A hard worker's dream Set 2 - Goddess of Light VS Super Smash Bros Brawl E3 2006 Trailer VS Wii Fit Trainer Joins the Battle! VS The Ashen Demon Yes, you only get one pick. No arguments! Set 3 - One-Winged Angel VS Super Smash Bros for 3DS/WiiU 1st Trailer VS A Piercing Screech VS Sonic Joins the Brawl VS Ramen Time! VS Super Smash Bros. is coming to Nintendo Switch! Again, you only get one pick. Set 4 - Comet Observatory VS One day, Pyra just disappeared Set 5 - One Dog, One Bird, One Zapper VS Heroic Encounter Set 6 - Champion of the Ring VS By Book, Blade, and Crest of Flame Set 7 - Mega Man Joins the Battle! VS The Last Key Everyone who voted before will have received PM's custom tailored to the choices they have to make. So just reply to that. Now if, for some reason, you didn't vote, but want to participate in these tie breakers, DO NOT POST YOUR CHOICES IN THIS THREAD! Send me a PM instead. We're still keeping this as an anonymous vote. For the same reason, you're still not allowed to reveal what you voted for until I reveal the final results. You have until next Thursday.
  19. A lot of people speculating that the massive amount of awards Smash got in TGS 2019 was the moment Disney started to take the idea of Sora in Smash more seriously. And then Sakurai met one of the heads of Disney at said awards by chance and suggested it. Isn't that funny? A similar happenstance event to how Kingdom Hearts was conceived in the first place. Anyway, can't download the update until tomorrow. Sakurai has some serious clout behind him. I wonder if any other developer could inspire such confidence from third parties. I doubt it.
  20. OK, it's the last day before I close the initial voting. So, if you haven't voted yet, this is your last chance.
  21. Now I haven't played Dread yet, but... I guarantee that the internet's exaggerated vitriol towards Other M is the reason why plot has taken a real backseat in Samus Returns and Dread. Don't get me wrong, Other M's plot is really dumb at times, but it's a shame it seems to have scared Sakamoto into not focusing on it.
  22. This suggestion of a 3D Smash reboot gets thrown about a lot. My question is why bother going that route? Smash continues to sell more and more with each iteration, so it's not like the customers are getting bored of the formula. If sales ever start declining, then it'd be time to think of how to shake things up. Now this is a bit anecdotal, but the 2D nature of the game, as well as the relatively simplified controls, help to give Smash a low skill floor. When I still held gaming sessions at a community centre, kids would gravitate towards Smash because of the concept. (Chances are, a kid these days would see Mario fighting Pikachu and think "Oh, I know those guys, I want in on that"). They only stick with it because the game is easy to learn. The 2D plane helps to ease people in and keep them engaged. Honestly, once they get over the initial hump that is learning how to recover with Up B, then they almost always find themselves engaged. Add a 3D movement element to it, and you run the risk of losing what makes Smash so accessible. The characters entice people in, but the easy to learn concept is what keeps newcomers interested.
  23. I imagine every time you die, the time spent in between the last checkpoint and your death is made null and void. Also, Metroid games generally pause the timer whenever you open a menu. I suspect it's no different here.
  24. On a whim, I decided to boot up SNES online and play through Super Mario World. I've talked enough about this game in previous threads, but I just had to share this moment where I was a bit too skillful for my own good.
  25. You know, I always thought after New Leaf, Isabelle had shived Tortimer off screen, and that's why he was nowhere to be found in New Horizons. Guess that theory is out the window now...
