Component can be used in any TV that supports it. The thing is that most old CRTs don't support and almost all HDTVs support it. But if you're really buying an HDTV make sure you use component, it makes a big difference.

First of all, remember that more important than the distance between the devices, is the number of walls between the devices. A friend of mine (Shino) is having some serious trouble with his wireless network because he has a lot of walls in the way.

Compared to other brands, i've heard that the Samsung LCDs do some of the best SD out there (except the CRTs of course). I'm happy with mine, even for the Wii, as long as you use component cables with it.
