gj15987 Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 Hey, if you want to drink why the fuck should age be a boundary? Depends which Cider though doesn't it, a lot of cider tastes like utter donkey balls, you need real cider, not pisswater like Strongbow or Gaymers (yes, thats what it's actually called) Haha, I LOVE Strongbow! Can't stand magners and i've never tried gaymers....name makes me laugh lol. Woodpecker and scumpy jack are nice too. But back to my main point. Yeah I usually have a good time in clubs even if I do get pissed before hand, but there's still taxi fare home on top of it all and usually adds up to more than the whole night is worth.
The Bard Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Speaking of getting drunk, any rock club fans from Manchester here? Jillys is the single most awesome place ever. As for clubs, Jilly's rockhouse in Manchester kicks all ass. Obscure metal bands, awesome music, and booze. Can't ask for much else! Oh...and fit birds . Yes mate . Maybe I'll see you there sometime . Haha, I LOVE Strongbow! Can't stand magners and i've never tried gaymers....name makes me laugh lol. Woodpecker and scumpy jack are nice too. Strongbow is a hell of a lot better than Gaymers, which makes me want to throw up, but it's still not too great. Cheap though, at £3.60 for 2 pints .
That Bear Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Yes mate . Maybe I'll see you there sometime . Hehe, that'll teach me for not reading the thread carefully enough! What nights are you there? I'm usually found in rooms 1/2 on a Thursday or room 3 on a Saturday.
EEVILMURRAY Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I hate Magners, I really don't understand why it suddenly became so popular. When working at Sainsburys there wasn't much fuss about ciders, soon as Magners were on the scene every man and his dog wanted a piece. We never really had any so your humble fabulous recieved fountains of bullshit from the customer. Only to recieve a fountain twice as big from myself telling them we would be getting them on a day when I don't work I'm a Blackthorn man personally. But being a student I've had to lower my standards a little. Sainsburys "Strong" Dry Cider. Strong at a whipping 5.3% O_O. But the price is right.
Atomic Boo Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I dont want to drink in later life because 1. It burns a whole in your pocket 2. I dont like the taste 3. Id like to drive/walk back home safely from a pub 4. It makes you fat (i think)

I'm usually found in rooms 1/2 on a Thursday or room 3 on a Saturday. I don't really go there all that often, but about once or twice a month, I'll be in Rileys this Saturday if you want to come have a merry time . Room 1 and 2 are both great. I can't believe I missed Cryptopsy though, they were supposed to have been really good ... I'm a Blackthorn man personally. But being a student I've had to lower my standards a little. Sainsburys "Strong" Dry Cider. Strong at a whipping 5.3% O_O. But the price is right. Blackthorn is ok. I love it though when I see a bunch of chavs with a litre bottle of white lightning . I laugh and throw roks at them. Then I run away like a little girl.
Nintendork Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 My friends dabble in it.. once every couple of weeks. I refuse to go.. it's full of tasteless people, bad music. Pubs are good, have better atmospheres. However clubs have pretty good deals on drinks even if you have to wait. I often see £3 for 2 bottles of beer which ain't a bad deal.. or 6 bottles for 6 quid. In general bottles are shit though. Pints ftw. There used to be a cafe in town where you could take your own beers because they didn't have a license.. they put on music and only got pissy in the day when they were busy. It would be like one sip "you wanna get going guys?" Place has shut down now and is doing quite badly now it's high class.
Rummy Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Whoever's knocking underage drinking, assuming somebody is because I didn't read everything properly, don't knock it. I had some of the best times drinking underage, it was much more interesting than just sitting down in a pub and drinking with your mates. Whoever buys coke and has a problem with the price, try getting a pint of coke instead, in wetherspoons it's only like 10 or 20p more, and about twice as much! I say that, but I haven't had to ask for a coke in a wetherspoons for about a year.
Solo Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Seeing underage kids drinking so heavily is slightly worrying, but hey, if they're having fun (and not causing any fecking trouble, i.e chavs) then why not let them. I for one go to my local every Thursday and Friday, tis a Weatherspoons but it is cheap and I've got to know most the bar staff which is cool I guess.
Charlie Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I'm currently trying to acquire something with a significant alcholic volume in it by tomorrow evening. I'm going to go back to the co-op and hope some dozy bastard is behind the till and I'll just give them my driving license (which says I'm 17) and she hopefully think it says I'm 18...

Going down the pub for a drink just feels like expensive socialising to me.
Noodleman Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 4. It makes you fat (i think) It actualy doesnt. ITs the Kebabs/ Burgers / Pizzas you normally end up buying when drunk that gives you the beer belly.
Hellfire Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I can't drink because of my stomach and because of my medication, but before that I'd ocasionally drink. I'd never get drunk csaue I kneww my limits and I?m surprisingly resisitant t alcohol. Except my stomach. Lots of people drink because it's cool, or they think it's the grown up think to do, I think you should jjust drink because youe joy the flavor, or at extreme cases you enjoyed getting drunk for whatever reason.
Charlie Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 It actualy doesnt. ITs the Kebabs/ Burgers / Pizzas you normally end up buying when drunk that gives you the beer belly. Heh, there's an awesome pizza place in a village near me where most of my friends live. So whenver we're out drinking there we order a pizza from them... and they bring it right to us! Free delivery! I like to go out, I like to think that drinking is just a sociable thing to do, we never cause any trouble (other than litter if there is no bin, which there very rarely is, even then we try and take as much back with us as possible). We always have really good times out and about.
Dan_Dare Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 It actualy doesnt. ITs the Kebabs/ Burgers / Pizzas you normally end up buying when drunk that gives you the beer belly. yes it does. Beer has a high calorie content. ever seen american light beer? that's not low alc percentage, it's like a diet coke .

I say that, but I haven't had to ask for a coke in a wetherspoons for about a year. Weatherspoons is too posh to let my kind in ...but who cares? It sucks anyway Anyway, I agree, it's always fun to go out with mates, turning 18 years of age doesn't make any difference to how you react to alcohol, so why all the complaining about underage drinking? It actualy doesnt. ITs the Kebabs/ Burgers / Pizzas you normally end up buying when drunk that gives you the beer belly. No, it isn't, a pint typically contains 250 Kcal. I managed to consume 4500 Kcals worth of booze in one day, and I had to eat too, it's really the excessive alcohol consumption that causes it.
Noodleman Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 yes it does. Beer has a high calorie content. ever seen american light beer? that's not low alc percentage, it's like a diet coke . No it doesnt, I read a study somewhere was in the paper a couple of months back that it was proven that beer didnt give you the beer belly it was the fact that alchohol makes you think you're hungry so you eat shit. Edit: http://www.realbeer.com/news/articles/news-002041.php linkage
Nintendork Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Unnamed scientific studies are bullshit. It's like one of those studies that have no financial gain.. so where does the funding come from? No-where.. because it's of no benefit except charities who don't have the money to do huge research into whether beer or food makes you fat. Beer bellies are caused by the lowering of the metabolism as your body reaches 20+ it almost halves in fact, and unless you are active.. chances are you'll put on weight. Whether you drop that by adjusting your diet or lifestyle is up to you. I do a-level biology so I can explain what a beer belly is. It's caused by carbohydate foods.. the excess sugars that are not used up in the blood are converted into what is known as brown fat. The generally accepted theory is this brown fat is storage.. and it's very difficult to burn off (the burning you feel when running intensively is brown fat being burnt off raw after the glucose in your blood is used up) You have to work hard to get away from it.. now knowing that beer is made from barley sugar.. I imagine it's quite intensively packed with carbohydates.. but Pizzas and doughnuts don't help either. Eat right, exercise a little and you won't get one. Or just be a vegetarian and be skinny.
The Bard Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Don't be a vegetarian, because the human body needs iron, since it's a major component of blood haemoglobin (haemo - containing iron) and our main source of Iron is in meats and proteins. If we don't get enough Iron, we lose RBC's and become anaemic. This is especially a concern for women, because of their bitch refresher courses every 23 days into the month, where they lose 2 to 3 pints of blood in the course of a few days. Vegetarianism isn't even beneficial to animals because eating an excess of tofu or vegetation causes it's fair share of animal deaths too in the form of the Combine Harvester; the reaper for animals that live on farm vegetation. The generally accepted theory is this brown fat is storage.. and it's very difficult to burn off (the burning you feel when running intensively is brown fat being burnt off raw after the glucose in your blood is used up) No it isn't, that burning feeling you get is an excess of lactic acid in the vicinity of your muscles. Lactate is a product of anaerobic respiration, which needs to be got rid of by Oxidisation, hence the reason you breathe so deeply and fast; to pay off your "Oxygen debt."
Blackfox Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I'm currently trying to acquire something with a significant alcholic volume in it by tomorrow evening. Co-op £3.29 Espana red. It snot bad, but its not good either. Or their £3.49 vodka. Anyway, try to buy it - you can get fined. And think of the cashier who could lose her job... Lactate is a product of anaerobic respiration, which needs to be got rid of by Oxidisation, hence the reason you breathe so deeply and fast; to pay off your "Oxygen debt." Yeah, that's right. Although many people claim they hit "the wall" when they use up the last of their glucose and have to undego gluconeogenesis from fat to make glucose. Keto acids that form after excessive carb depleation can also cause pain too! As for drinking, the SU bar here at Hull is fairly cheap. Shame the choice ofbeers is utter shite though. Carling is piss - end of. Grolsch has started to give me the worst headaches after drinking it, ever (think hangover style, but all day, and paracetamol doesnt work for it) and strongbow does the same, but to a less extent. Viva la vin! Cheapest way is definately pre-drinks before hand.
-JC- Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 If you don't want to spend much, go to the student nights. In Bath, there's about 3 nights at least during the week where somewhere does £1 a pint. Plus, a £2 special discount for regular customer kebab goes down a treat after a night out!

Also, totally with you on the Carling thing, at Leeds they have this policy that lets you "trade any warm beer for a Carling." No thanks, I'll keep the warm beer probably get drunk faster too...(I swear the most interesting things you learn in A level Biology aren't on the sylabus ), infact, I'd rather consume my own stool.
MunKy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Dude, I didnt read any of the posts except your 1st one. £20 is a cheap night out. Either you dont drink much or people buy alot of drinks for you. The best part of goin out to drink is the prospect of pulling and the one night friendships with the random fuckers you meet.

I totally agree with you, although there is some hope. if you go to the end of the bar by the food counter in sanctuary you'll see they have a pump for an ale called Golden Hornet. It's a bit like Black Sheep and it's not tooexpensive. It's certainly pricier but when faced with Carling...what's a boy to do?
