Goafer Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Went on a bit of an urban exploration trip at long last. You ever get worried about asbestos and that shit? One of the buildings was bordered up with asbestos warnings on it.. we didn;t go in that one but still, a bit worrying..! Asbestos is fine as long as you don't disturb it and make asbestos dust. That's the dangerous stuff (and asbestos wool IIRC). I think the roof of my garage is still made of asbestos. The council own my garage and they don't seem worried. I do have a mask though, just in case. It's mainly used to keep the smell of pigeon shit out of my lungs though! The governments data on asbestos. Best bet is to avoid it, or if you have to get close to it, don't disturb it. And wear a mask, obviously.
Paj! Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I like that sparkly one with the hand/s, Goafer. It raises questions and doesn't answer them. I'm so intrigued. While your photos are always very professionally shot and well composed and considered, I don't find (the ones you post here anyway) them particularly interesting (except maybe your abandoned building ones). That's just my taste though.
dan-likes-trees Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Bit harsh / random. Anyway, more painting with torches.
Gio001 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/ Anybody into photography needs to check this out, especially the spot on Chicago news. Amazing find & what a lady.
Goafer Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Went back and edited some more of my photos from the Godiva Festival in Coventry. Russell Lissack from Bloc Party was playing for Ash: Bear in mind that I was stood in the middle of a rather energetic crowd (right near the mosh pit), so getting good photos in low light was a bit of a challenge. The first photo shows how far back I was. Here are the rest of the ones I got from that gig (already posted before, so I'll spoiler them):
nightwolf Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Dan - I really like the angel one, it's cute. Like Goafer said, don't worry about it, buy a decent mask and go have a look round. Just becareful obviously, although something like this doesn't worry me in the slightest. I just wish the ones in Sheffield were easier to get into!

nightwolf Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 What doesn't worry you?... the risk of asbestos poisoning/injuring yourself/dying in a potentially unsafe building? Not particularly, sure it is something to be cautious about, obviously!
Goafer Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 All this talk of Urbex got me in the mood to edit some of my unused photos from previous explores: From some Air Base (I forget where): Not many from there as we found a room filled with dog shit. We didn't hang around to find out where the dogs were. From London Brick Factory (not actually in London oddly enough):
Gio001 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Great shots Goafer, love the composition/framing on the last one. Looks like the Hulk went through the wall in pic 2.
Happenstance Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I really do love the brick hole one and the cracked Helicopter Division writing works really well.
dan-likes-trees Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Yeah, these two are particularly great. Very nicely framed!
Goafer Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Taken from Barrow Gurney Hospital (a nuthouse):
dan-likes-trees Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Niyce. Are the slight fisheye-effects (like on the fourth one) with lens or post-produced? Works very well whatever. and it had to be done
Goafer Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Niyce. Are the slight fisheye-effects (like on the fourth one) with lens or post-produced? Works very well whatever. It's a fisheye filter for the camera. It's not an actual fisheye lens, but a filter that screws onto an existing lens. They're about £20, which compared to an actual fisheye lens at hundreds (I think one for my camera is £500) is a bargain! The images are usually a bit shit in terms of quality though. But for £20 I can't complain. Ace pictures as always btw.
nightwolf Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Fisheye lenses ftw. I want to get one for my diana at some point. Plus the instant back which are about 70quid. http://uk.shop.lomography.com/diana-instant-back
Goafer Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 When I buy shiny new things, I tend to take photos of them: As it came from the camera: Clean, white, first edit: First ever attempt at a lighting effect: Not sure I like the lighting, but meh. I tried something I'd never done before so I can't complain.
Strider Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) A few i took last summer (I'm in every one): Edited January 25, 2011 by Strider
Strider Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 At the time it was more a "Oh shit that's big!" rather than it making a nice photo. :P I try to exaggerate the colours a bit, or as close to as the eye would see it. Sometimes I go a tad too far with the saturation though (Opinions?). I just like how it picks up the spray in the water pics.
Retro_Link Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Is it along that top 1/5th of the photo you've saturated yeah. I think you've edited it pretty well tbh, you wouldn't necessarily know unless you'd said. Great Depth of Shot. What camera are you using?

Canon 400d (it's getting on a bit now) and the 1st and 3rd photo were the standard 18-55mm lens and the zoom ones were with a tamron 70-300mm lens.
