I really like the first one. But (whilst nothing to do with you) the others have false/forced studio look to them which I'm personally not a fan of. The first one looks far more natural.

How does this work, do you all set up your own camera's and have a few mins each?

It was just a massive free for all to be honest. The studio flashes were set to slave, so when they detected a flash from a camera, they fired too. That's why I was so impressed by the models, especially the blonde one. She worked her way around the cameras, looking at each one until they had taken a picture.

There was the occasional "ok guys, wait for this person to take a picture", but it was mainly just wait for the flash to beep to say it's ready, then ram the shutter button before anyone else did.

And yeah, I agree about the more natural picture. I personally prefer photos where the subject isn't looking. But the blonde model was so good at looking at the cameras, I felt I had to take photos when she was looking. It's also not the type of photo I'm used to taking, so I thought I'd give it a try. I like all of them, but I don't think they're my preferred area of photography.

Is that done in Photoshop or is it taken through some obscure deeley?

It's straight out the camera (bar some minor colour enhancing), utilising a transparant surface.

If you PM me your email address, I can send you the full res one if you want? Photobucket has a 1mb file size limit and it's a rather hefty file.

Same goes for anyone if they want it as a background.

There's also a colour version:

I accidentally took a hipster photo today. I feel so cheap. There isn't water hot enough to wash me of my shame:

At least all the hipster stuff was done without photoshop/hipster camera/app. I guess that's why it's only mildly hipster.

What's hipster about it?

The slightly odd colours (cross curves I think it's called), the lens flare and the blown highlights. All are rife in hipster photos.

There is also a weird haze to the whole thing which adds to the "hipster".

I should Photoshop an organic iPhone into his hand instead of that try hard dslr he's holding. Or for some mega-irony (or something), I should put a banana in his hand.

Because bananas are shaped like guns and photos are like bullets. But because I am putting a banana in his hand instead of a gun, I'm mocking my own idea. I'm so fucking avant garde. Fuck you Man Ray (you totally haven't heard of him, don't try).

It's a shame, because it's actually a nice photo, the only reason people don't do these now is because of ''hipsters''.

Shame :(

Another reason could also be because, technically speaking, it's a shit photo. People seem to like the style so much because it's nostalgic, it's the sort of amateurish photos they remember from their parents albums or whatever.

Each to their own though. I have no strong opinions either way. It does have a certain charm to it, although I'm bored of seeing them everywhere now. I tend to shy away from taking photos I've already seen countless times unless it's something I really like. The one above was just a retaliation to Eoin poking his camera in my face.

Been fannying around with my polarising filter. It basically lets you control reflections and bring out different tones in various things. For example, there are hardly any reflections on my car in this photo:

It's not a great photo, but it was good practice.

The way it works is, it screws onto the end of the lens like any other filter, but it can be rotated. Rotating it different ways changes how it effects reflected light (amongst other things). Looking through the viewfinder and watching reflections disappear as I turn the filter is awesome.

I swear you must have neck problems.

Because this much awesome must surely cause whiplash?

I want my gravestone to read "Died of awesome related injuries".

I pass this on the way home from work every day and today was the day I decided to photograph it. You have no idea how embarrassing it was getting these pictures. Turns out GreenHill is quite a posh housing estate.
