Hal_9Million Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Not really the most exciting news ever, but at least it's nice to see an analyst who doesn't dismiss the Rev. and treat it like it's only a Gamecube 2. Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter recently spoke at the Games Marketing Conference over in San Francisco, stating Nintendo's Revolution will be the second choice system to either the Microsoft XBOX 360 or Sony PlayStation 3. He had the following to say: “People have written off the Revolution and that’s foolish. Microsoft has one game now: it’s Halo, and everything else sucks. You’re going to see the Revolution as the second console of choice in the household.†He also discussed how the XBOX 360 and PS3 will only have some major exclusives, yet the Revolution will have a plentiful supply of them, making it the firm choice for the 'second system' that people seem to buy nowadays. The unique controller will lead to games that simply cannot be recreated on the competitions' platforms. It certainly sounds like a reasonable assumption, but we shall wait and see the final outcome later this year. http://www.cubed3.com/news/4714 I think he has a very valid point. I know for a fact that more and more people are getting second consoles. Well, everyone on this board should know that. I bought Gamecube as my first console, then Xbox as my second. When it comes out, Playstation 3 will most likely sell like hot cakes, and Xbox 360 will have been out almost a year. So both of those consoles will have plenty of owners. A year down the line or so, they may want another console. Are they going to go for the expensive system that pretty much does the same as the one they've got, or go for the cheaper system which does something different? At the end of the day, it's just a prediction, so don't take it too seriously. But I think he's got one of the more realistic views of the market for sure.
Jay Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I think Revolution will be everyones second choice, 360 and PS3 do the same thing and look like having very few exclusives - The choice of system will largely come down to which proves a more popular replacement DVD format (Blue Ray or HD) and which has the best exclusives. I don't think many people will get both, Revo is a lot cheaper, looks like having a hell of a lot of exclusive games and very few ports. It'll offer something different and though I don't think all that many games will just want a Revolution I think it will be many peoples second system and thats where it will be a success
Hellfire Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Let's see what my magic 8 ball says about Revolution... "I like Peanuts" ... mmm... peanuts... I think any prediction right now is just stupid speculation, without palpable games, there's no idea what the publics reaction will be.
Nintenchris Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 He has some fairly good points... but lets be hounest.. we know too little about the PS3 or the Revolution to know how well each ones going to do. Think of it this way.. for all we know the Revolution or PS3 could be home to the crapest games ever made.. we just dont know yet.
Jamba Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 True... but there's an editorial on IGN, http://revolution.ign.com , which makes a good point about how the price of the Rev may be so low that people would consider it an impulse buy. It will be a complete sleeper hit if it does do well. If only it can garner the power of the Brain Training series...
colormonkey Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Second place in the race isn't the same as second choice. I think there is a lot of people who only buys one console. But the Revolution could be first choice for many people.
darkjak Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 First console or second console: as long as it increases the revo sales, I don't care.
Indigo Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 What's the fuss over analysts? It's not as if these opinions carry any more weight than those of your average forum poster.
Nintendork Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I predict analysts will eat their hats. Nintendo will invest in marketting the console at the blue ocean. The design? Check The price? Check The games? Check The controller? Check All they need to do is market this thing and it will sell in the West.. and judging by how well they've done marketting the DS I think they'll do a grand job. Analysts are very narrow minded bookfolk.
seamus_aran Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Whats the fuss over sales? I prefer being the geeky fan anyway. Back in the olden days anyone who plaeyd computer games were geeky. Sony made it cool. But with this new different style of gaming, Nintendo are making it geeky again. Taking us away from the mainstream, making it fashionabley geeky (read that as non chav if you can't get what i'm trying to say)
Nintendork Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Fashionable geeky? End of the day I class geeks as minority outcasts who excel in something not for popularity but for their love of the thing. I'm not a chav but I don't get you.. Nintendo aren't making games geeky in the slightest, they aim to satisfy current gamers (nintendorks) those who used to play with the back catalogue and those who are yet to play with new casual games and a casual controller. I don't get you.. if Nintendo's plan goes.. to plan. Nintendo will be the mainstream.
Kurtle Squad Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 He has some fairly good points... but lets be hounest.. we know too little about the PS3 or the Revolution to know how well each ones going to do. Think of it this way.. for all we know the Revolution or PS3 could be home to the crapest games ever made.. we just dont know yet. We know little about the PS3?!?!? Hardly!!....Almost everything has been decided and it's just a slightly more powerful 360 more-or-less, the only important thing we don't know is that price...
Nintendork Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 $400-$900 are the estimates from industry analysts and hardware specialists.. $900 is almost impossible though becase we know Sony will be subsidising the cost and jacking up the price of games for the first 6 months. I think it's tough to say but really $600 seems to be a good middle ground.. Where as Revolution will be $299 or less

darksnowman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Yar I think a cheap Revolution is what we're in store for. And yeah, who cares about the analysists? Second place? We all know rightly that Nintendo are gonna rule the roost once again.
Fields Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I remember a fair few analysts saying Gamecube would claim 'first place'. Look how that turned out...
darksnowman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I remember a fair few analysts saying Gamecube would claim 'first place'. Look how that turned out... You see, didnt someone already hit that nail on the head, they know not much more than your average fanboy chap.
DCK Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Funny how analysts predict a loss of Nintendo and then get spit out and the same people now praise someone's point when he sees Nintendo winning. Analysts never have made a good prediction of the gaming market. It's so inpredictable, and anything analysists say is pure guesswork.
Nintendork Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Chanser, short lived though... reputation is important in the media.
raven_blade2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 The Revolution has a very good chance to do well. It must be marketed right as other info shows that Nintendo are doing a good job to differentiate themselves.
The Peeps Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 For every analyst that says one thing there's about 10 saying completely different things. Analysts know absolutely nothing more than we do. I don't care where Nintendo come in the 'race'. I'll still be buying a revo whether Nintendo are first or last.
demonmike04 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 The analyst sounds like a fanboy.. "Microsoft has one game now: it’s Halo, and everything else sucks" opinion. You have to get in the mind of consumers, not yourself. I personally think Nintendo will be stuck in 3rd again, i just get that feeling, i cant even back it up..
pedrocasilva Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I honestly don't care, as long as they make a profit, unlike Xbox360 (sold at loss) is doing and release the games I want... I think Revolution might come in 1st place in japan though, if they play their cards right and throw in lot's of RPG's
