Cube Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 But there's no denying Transformers is a fun, enjoyable movie It's fun an enjoyable in the same way as all those awful Ninja/Zombie movies.
Slaggis Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 on the brokeback mountain subject: http://youtube.com/watch?v=A0L1tVbxj14&feature=related That was awesome! Why did that not make it into the final cut of the movie? Anyways, Oxigen, Brokeback is not overrated. It's such a brilliant movie that just got sort of knocked back because some people said, without watching it, it was only plauded because it's a "gay cowboy movie". Which for one thing it isn't, their not gay, and secondly it's a brilliant movie in its own right. The story is amazing to watch. (Also, agreed Megan fox can't exactly act/she's hot.) It's fun an enjoyable in the same way as all those awful Ninja/Zombie movies. No way. It's not one of those "so bad it's good movies". It's actually a good movie.
Chuck Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I see many a straight man watch brokeback mountain
Hem Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Here here Haggis. Brokeback is easily one of the best movies to come out of America in the last 5 years.
Oxigen_Waste Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Here here Haggis. Brokeback is easily one of the best movies to come out of America in the last 5 years. That's not saying much...
Slaggis Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 That's not saying much... Oh you! (lol, only thing I could think of saying that didn't involve swearing and sounded vaguely nice). You know what he means, it's a bluddy good movie that deserves to be watched. It's just plain brilliant, and it's shitty it didn't win that oscar over crash.
Hellfire Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Gotta watch the movie so I can join in on the party.
ReZourceman Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 That's not saying much... Erm. Yeah it is....

It's just not as good as you people make it out to be... And Crash is a far superior film to BM. Ok, I will now name American movies made in the same year as Brokeback Mountain who are superior to it, just so we get things straight: (before you say it, Crash was made in 2004, not 2005, that's why it's not here). - Walk The Line - Cinderella Man - Good Night & Good Luck - Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - Thank You For Smoking - Sin City - King Kong - Match Point - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Batman Begins - Everything Is Illuminated - Capote - Pride & Prejudice - V For Vendetta - The Constant Gardner - The World's Fastest Indian - Serenity - Munich Oh, and here, have some foreign movies too: - Grizzly Man - Sophie Scholl - C.R.A.Z.Y. - Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Manderlay And these are just the movies from 2005 wich I've seen. Want me to redo the list taking into account the last 5 years, so Brokeback Mountain seems like even more of an insignificant bleep? Now... The Ice Storm? That's a really good Ang Lee movie.

Can you just explain to me exactly why you think it's overrated, other than the whole critic thing you mentioned. I mean, why do you yourself think it's not as good as say, I think it is? V for vendetta being better than BM, you're kidding right? (For the love of kid tell me you're kidding!)
Oxigen_Waste Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Can you just explain to me exactly why you think it's overrated, other than the whole critic thing you mentioned. I mean, why do you yourself think it's not as good as say, I think it is? V for vendetta being better than BM, you're kidding right? (For the love of kid tell me you're kidding!) I do not kid. Anywho, whilst I do like the movie (Brokeback Mountain, that is), I fail to see why it got so much attention. I mean, despite the fact that we're talking about two men instead of a man and a woman, this is the oldest story in the book: coming to terms with unacceptance for some reason... It's nothing new, nothing unique, nothing fresh. Nonetheless, it's a good movie. And I have nothing against gay people... I shall just state that Shortbus is one of my favourite films to stop those accusations.
Hellfire Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I don't get the V for Vendetta hate. FUCK YOU HATERS!
McMad Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 You must be trolling with Revenge of the Sith though? That movie was a complete steaming pile of shit, it's pretty much CGI porn with a piss-poor script. Damn you George Lucas.

I shall just state that Shortbus is one of my favourite films to stop those accusations. I see where you're coming from, I do. But I disagree. Yes, it got lots of attention just because it's two men and not a man and a woman, but thts nt why it's good. It's the struggle between those two men back when sleeping with another man would get you killed, that made the movie brilliant. The moment when Ethan is talking to his ex wife and she confronts him is really hard to watch (in a good way). It is uniquw, it's unique in the way that the film is just so amazingly well acted, I mean Ledger is littery awesome. Meh, I know You think it's a good movie, I know I can't persaude you thats it's better than you think it is so all this is pointless and all. But still, you give it less credit that it deserves. (hellfire, I don't hate the movie, I just think saying it's better than BM is totally and utterly crap.)
Mundi Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Oh, and here, have some foreign movies too: - Grizzly Man - Sophie Scholl - C.R.A.Z.Y. - Sympathy For Lady Vengeance - Manderlay Ahh Sympathy For Lady Vengeance i just watched it last night for the 4th time Truly love it
Oxigen_Waste Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I don't get the V for Vendetta hate. FUCK YOU HATERS! QFT. : peace: You must be trolling with Revenge of the Sith though? That movie was a complete steaming pile of shit, it's pretty much CGI porn with a piss-poor script. Damn you George Lucas. Say what you will, it stands right next to The Empire Strikes Back, as the second best of all six of them. But that's my opinion... Anyway, the movie is good. I don't see why the CGI is a con and there was nothing wrong with the script, if I may. I see where you're coming from, I do. But I disagree. Yes, it got lots of attention just because it's two men and not a man and a woman, but thts nt why it's good. (hellfire, I don't hate the movie, I just think saying it's better than BM is totally and utterly crap.) Well then, let's just agree that we both like the movie, in different degrees. And you're completely right about the acting... it was superb, that... is a fucking fact! Ahh Sympathy For Lady Vengeance i just watched it last night for the 4th timeTruly love it I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. Finally completed the trilogy. Wich reminds me... I've gotta get that to Hellfire's hands.
Cube Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 No way. It's not one of those "so bad it's good movies". It's actually a good movie. The "art" of the movie is good. The script is terrible. It's similar to the "one liner" scripts that Resident Evil (the games) is famous for.
Slaggis Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 QFT. : peace: Well then, let's just agree that we both like the movie, in different degrees. And you're completely right about the acting... it was superb, that... is a fucking fact! Righto, we'll just agree to disagree yet agree at the same time...I'm conufusing myself. Yeah, agreed. Also, lol at spending near enough a page talking about one movie. -- Cube, the script isn't wonderful, but the comedy moment in the bedroom I think it pretty funny. Though I'm probably the only one.
mcj metroid Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I(hellfire, I don't hate the movie, I just think saying it's better than BM is totally and utterly crap.) now how the hell can you compare the 2 movies?
Slaggis Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 now how the hell can you compare the 2 movies? I didn't, Oxigen did. I just then disagreed with what he said.
McMad Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Say what you will, it stands right next to The Empire Strikes Back, as the second best of all six of them. But that's my opinion... Anyway, the movie is good. I don't see why the CGI is a con and there was nothing wrong with the script, if I may. Fine I'm not going to disagree with you're opinion and actually I hugely enjoyed some of the CGI scenes, but Hayden could barely act and the plot felt like such cop-out in the end. Screw it I'll let maddox do the explaining for me: Steaming pile of sith
Hellfire Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Wich reminds me... I've gotta get that to Hellfire's hands. I saw the dvd yesterday in FNAC... in fucking german! fuckers
Dan_Dare Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 It is good, there's no denying it... but overrated nonetheless. And why the fuck are you connecting Ang Lee to 2046????? Damn, that film is good... Fucking fantastic. Wong Kar-wai is a genious. apologies- i thought lee directed. miiissstttaaaake! Hey! The movie is good, I know that! - Walk The Line damn fine movie, but not better if you ask me - Cinderella Man - Good Night & Good Luck - Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith lulz - Thank You For Smoking - Sin City no chance - King Kong bloated but entertaining, granted. not as good though - Match Point - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang god damn that's a good movie- tempted to admit you're on to something there. - Batman Begins one of my favourites, but again it's not as good - Everything Is Illuminated - Capote - Pride & Prejudice - V For Vendetta no! I've made myself clear on this a few times... - The Constant Gardner - The World's Fastest Indian - Serenity good, but ultimately it's more of a popcorn movie with an ace script - Munich Oh, and here, have some foreign movies too: - Grizzly Man - Sophie Scholl - C.R.A.Z.Y. - Sympathy For Lady Vengeanceabout equal- it's no Oldboy for style, but the effect of the film is utterly harrowing - Manderlay And these are just the movies from 2005 wich I've seen. Want me to redo the list taking into account the last 5 years, so Brokeback Mountain seems like even more of an insignificant bleep? Now... The Ice Storm? That's a really good Ang Lee movie. mini reviews of what I've seen. thing is, I've never been so utterly convinced of a chracter, in any medium, as I have by Ennis Delmar. not once. Ledger's performance is just utterly incredible, along with most of the supporting cast, and it remains the only film to ever make me break down in tears. Cinema has to engross me in something, and for that brokeback is hard to match.
Hem Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Yeah. Ledger's performance is outstanding. Easily the best portrayal of a character by an actor i've ever seen.
