Shorty Posted October 21 Posted October 21 IGN has given this... a 9????* https://www.ign.com/articles/sonic-x-shadow-generations-review What a time to be alive * on ps5 1
MindFreak Posted October 21 Posted October 21 I'm not surprised. The original game was very decent and adding in another story mode would have to be very bad to make the game less enjoyable. Glad it's getting good reviews. 1
Ike Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Yeah, the game is good. As MindFreak says, they already had a good base, but Shadow's mode somehow feels better.
Glen-i Posted October 26 Posted October 26 At first, I was impressed, but then I found out that the 3 day early access thing (ugh) wasn't even available on Switch. So those sales numbers are just when the Switch version became available. Considering Nintendo is consistently the best performing platform for Sonic, I have to imagine that number is about to get another boost.
Aneres11 Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Not posted in a while but have managed to get some good gaming time in recently and started by picking this up. Did opt for the PS5 version though. Overall thoughts, fantastic game. I managed to obtain the Platinum, and it was a bit grindy as per all Sonic games. But lots of good challenge on the way, including S ranking all of the levels which was trickier for Shadow than it was for Sonic. The original game holds up really well almost ten years later. I forgot how great it was but as a complete package it's a shame they didn't add a little something to the original sonic game. The 3DS version had some fantastic stages from the old games, I'd have loved to see them be remastered and added. Shadows section was a huge leap forward in terms of gameplay and visuals for me. Shadow controls much better than Sonic (it's in line with how Sonic plays in Frontiers), and his levels were a joy. The only downsides to this package are Sonics final boss (poor) and the sheer amount of collectibles for Shadow. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a better map system, but all you get is a map locked into the pause menu which can only be zoomed into and not navigated. But as someone who is a big Sonic fan, I loved this. Pleased to see it's seemingly doing well for those who missed the original game the first time. 1 1
Hero-of-Time Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Fired this up this evening. It's as good as I remember it being. I honestly thought it wasn't that long ago when I played the original Sonic Generations but looking through my trophy list and it was 2016! Time has no meaning to me anymore. I've only played the first few levels and I'm surprised to find that I still remember where a lot of the Red Rings are hidden. What I don't recall are some of the challenge stages. Did they change some of these? I don't remember Super Sonic Racing playing in one of the levels but I certainly welcomed it. There weren't hidden Chao in the original game, were they?
Ike Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Aye the Chao rescue is new. I was hoping they teasing the return of the Chao Garden, but alas... 1
Hero-of-Time Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Finished the main game this afternoon but still need to revisit all the levels for the collectibles. Also got the trophy out the way for defeat the last boss without big hit. Yeah, it was annoying back in the original release and it was just as annoying here. I've had a quick go of Shadow's campaign and I'm not sure how I feel about it. The levels are a lot longer (Sonic's levels are the perfect length) and I can't do a homing attack by a double press of the X button but instead have to press X and then Square. Probably best to finish Sonic's stuff first, rather than jumping between games otherwise my muscle memory is going to cause issues.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Shadow's hub world stuff sucks. I enjoyed the Generations hub world because it is 2D and easy to navigate. Shadow's is a 3D open world mess and I've not even begun to search for all the collectibles hidden around the area, which will no doubt cause more frustration. Ugh.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 8 Posted December 8 All done. Really enjoyed my time with the game. Certainly worthy of the high praise some outlets gave it. The hub in Shadow's side of things was initially a little hard to navigate but once I got more abilities to use the are became much easier to traverse. I loved earning the S ranks in Shadow's stages. Unlike the base Sonic Generations game, this was all about getting a high score and fast time. This means you really have to learn the ins and outs of each level and pretty much play through each of them perfectly. Losing too many rings or too much time will ultimately cost you a run. The collectibles in Shadow's hub were a bit of a pain. If it not for various guides kicking about on the internet I doubt I would have been able to find them all, especially when certain ones don't even get flagged up as collected or appear on the map. Last November I platinumed Sonic Superstars and the year before that it was Sonic Frontiers. Its getting to be a tradition to play a Sonic game during the Nov/Dec period. 1
