After a lengthy farming session with just the hero and one of my party members, I now have someone with Critical Claim.

Liquid Metal Slimes, you're going down!

Nah, I simply didn't see the icon on the map until  45 minutes ago :D

That icon is hard to see to be fair. Hope you can get the mod rod back.

"Liquid Metal Slime flees"

:(

I've currently managed to kill a grand total of 1 so far from an encounter with a single one.

Glad to see you are enjoying it. @darksnowman has been playing it on his Switch a lot over the weekend as well. I take it you are also playing it, @Ike?

I was though yet to see it out. The going got so rough I resorted to looking up some tips but that only got me so far. Looks like I'll have to grind what I have or grind new vocations to get past the current boss.

You play it elsewhere?

Nah. Still not picked it up. I've got far too many JRPGs to get through as it is. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of DQ3.

They really should have added Metal Kings, Liquid Metals really aren't cutting it.

Hilariously, there's an enemy in the post-game dungeon that gives double the amount of EXP that Liquid Metals do. A lot more common too.

You can get three of them, too. Although, that might be a bit unlucky, because they're quite dangerous.

I'm not in post-game yet, but I figured I'd be better off battling other monsters. At least I get a consistent amount of around 1000 EXP rather than just having them run and not getting anything and then trying to encounter them again.

Are you doing post-game stuff. Is it as difficult as people say?

It's not too bad at first, but then there's a second dungeon which is absolutely insane. There's an arbitrary restriction on what weapons you can use, and it's chock full of incredibly tanky enemies that not even Hero can put a dent in, but they'll happily crit you 70% of the time. And don't get me started on enemies having access to FullHeal and 4 digit HP! And the encounter rate is ratcheted up for some reason.

Capped off with an infuriating set of minibosses that I would never have beaten if I didn't accidentally find out that they're susceptible to Blasto.

That section makes this probably one of the least fun post-games in all the DQ games I've played. A shame too, I tend to like them.

I have a feeling if I already played the eShop version I would probably have skipped this release too. It's very good and would have been an all-timer if I'd played it back in the day, sharing stories and pointers offline but coming to it now... I see what it brought to the table, but that's about it.

Having played all the mainline DQs that are out here now, this one would probably be middle of the pack at best.

Still, glad to have got 1 & 2 off the eShop before this because... if you know, you know. Mindblowing. Should have seen it coming. But sort of wish the game had just ended instead.

Same. It's a slow grind. I just went for a standard party but it stopped being effective some time ago.

The tip I followed was:

After several tries at the volcano boss, and having grinded to no avail, I read that going Priest to Sage and making them a vamp would put an end to all my woes. It meant more grinding to get them back up to speed but was only a short term solution.

I finally got an answer for something I was always unsure about in Dragon Quest I.

Was the Golem protecting Rimuldar or keeping the people in? No one seemed to acknowledge you got past it which I always thought was weird.
