Ronnie Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 (edited) Exciting... apart from the Ubisoft part. Finding myself more and more turned off by their openworld game design. Edited January 13, 2021 by Ronnie
Julius Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Well, guess this confirms my thought that Lucasfilm Games was announced so that they could announce games which are in the works but will release after the EA deal, seeing as they only had publishing rights! Ubisoft, and Massive Games in particular (online..?), gives me pause, because Ubi certainly wouldn't have been my first choice. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't a High Republic game, because that seems like what they're trying to build up to after Mandalorian et al with all the published stuff, The Acolyte, etc., that they've got in the works currently.
Agent Gibbs Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 My only experience of Massive is The Division, so its hard to know what to expect, but their world building is very very good, so i have faith there. I do however wonder what type of game will it be? they've done Assassin's creed before, so will it be a single player like that or will it be more like their most recent foray into GAAS? Now GAAS is a wierd one, I love Destiny, The Division not as much, played both and sold them after the first expansion realising everything was a bullet sponge and it wasn't fun. Marvel is the only new GAAS i've played and that as a concept was good, the execution? well dire. So i don't really want a GAAS.......HOWEVER, Star War's massive online multiplayers have been great, KOTOR is very popular, but having not played it, that's the limit of my experience, but Star Wars Galaxies? now that was fantastic, I put about 2500 hours into that before the NGE ruined my jedi run (was waiting the stranger to put me on the path and left for two months to concentrate on uni and when i came back, Jedi were a crap starting class) So i'm cautiously optimistic - the dev's world building is top notch and star wars can work well if its either a single player or a multiplayers, so heres hoping this doesn't buck the trend
Julius Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 A couple of tidbits on the game from the Ubisoft Conference Call: the game will be developed in the Snowdrop Engine (which Ubisoft Massive has used previously for the Division games) and that it is not going to release prior to the Avatar game announced in 2017 (which is apparently still in the works). That one got delayed back in November to 2022, so that lines up with this not coming out until after the EA publishing deal is up. It's going to be a long couple of years waiting for this, but hopefully it'll be worth it! Curious to see if the basis of the publishing deal extends to marketing too (such as revealing the game), but I doubt it, seeing as it's already been announced (albeit just as being in the works).
Julius Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 (edited) This now has a title (Outlaws), year of release (2024), and trailer (below)! Quote Watch the World Premiere trailer of Star Wars Outlaws. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy's crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted. Finally something set between Empire and Jedi that axolotl-looking thing looks cute as hell! And today I learned a commando droid in a coat looks cool as hell Edited June 11, 2023 by Julius
Julius Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 (edited) Gameplay from today's Ubisoft Forward: Also, a chat with Kay Vess' actor, Humberly Gonzalez (what a cool and unique first name!): So, uh, is it bad if I feel I might be jaded by the last few years of releases? Because this looks incredible – too incredible – to the point that I'm honestly a little suspicious. Am I alone in this? It kind of looks like a dream Star Wars game. Everything from the UI (like the WANTED flashing in red on the screen) to gameplay/cutscene transitions (the planet's atmosphere one caught my eye) to the size and look and sound of every place, just...it's too good. I know it's just a demo and there's a year of polish surely to come with its 2024 release date, but dang, I need someone to rein me and my expectations in here. I mean it's Ubisoft. There's got to be something that's going to go wrong with it...right? Edited June 12, 2023 by Julius
Julius Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) The game was rated yesterday in South Korea, getting a 19+ (or Mature) rating. Interesting. September/October time I guess? Edited March 22 by Julius

Julius Posted March 26 Posted March 26 5 minutes ago, Hero-of-Time said: It was also just rated in Australia. I wonder if a release date is closer than we think? It's definitely possible; weren't their rumours before the internal delay that it would be making it out sometime between March and May? It's Star Wars, so it will sell well whenever it's released, but with The Acolyte releasing from June into July, a mid-to-late summer release would dovetail off of that really nicely, I think. Have a big blowout on the game during Not-E3 time. I'm still unsure how I feel about this game, it's Star Wars so I'll play it and was impressed by what we saw but I feel like we just don't know enough. I'm also very curious about what our next look at the game looks like, and obviously when we get it. Could definitely see us getting something for it on or around May 4th to drag it back into the public consciousness, but I'm honestly expecting a bit of a dip in performance and appearance compared to when we last saw it. Because Ubisoft 1
Julius Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Story trailer drops Tuesday at 17:00 BST: Love that art. Got to imagine we get a date, and man, summer doesn't sound too crazy if we do get a release date on Tuesday... Edited April 5 by Julius 1
Julius Posted April 9 Posted April 9 5 minutes ago, Hero-of-Time said: Nice to know that water is still wet, because Ubisoft still leaks End of August just feels perfect for this, got a Star Wars-packed summer ahead! Might need to check myself but it feels like the most stuff we've had come out in a relatively tight window in a while. It's tough to imagine it getting delayed seeing as it already was internally, and because they've got an Assassin's Creed they won't want this thing too close to. That thumbnail has me hyped! Also seen that the rest of the translation mentions ship customisation (not expecting anything beyond colours like we got in Fallen Order, will happily be wrong though) and a season pass, curious to see what that's about. Between this and an Assassin's Creed set in Japan to tide me over until the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, it's looking to be the year I lift my self-imposed Ubisoft boycott
Julius Posted April 9 Posted April 9 (edited) It's trailer time: August 30th confirmed 3 days of early access via the premium editions is kind of gross, but I'm totally considering it Game Informer's next issue will also focus on the game: Edited April 9 by Julius 1
Julius Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) Game Informer with the reputation scooooooop Quote To wrap up our exclusive Star Wars Outlaws cover story, we're publishing an 18-minute video interview with Massive Entertainment's Alice Rendell, senior narrative systems designer on Outlaws, and Lead Systems Designer Matthieu Delisle, wherein we learn about the sorts of encounters players can expect to experience while interacting with the game's Reputation and Wanted Systems. Sounds like they're going to be riffing off WB's Nemesis System to some extent, though obviously not to far because, well, those pigs patented a mechanic and should go to hell for it. This brings an end to their cover story coverage of the game, which included an interview weighing in at nearly 40 minutes long: I still need to check that one out myself! Edited May 7 by Julius
Julius Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Overview trailer and gameplay from today's Ubisoft Forward: Yeah, think I'm giving into the Dark Side by booking the week off and picking up the game at a higher tier for earlier access. Give me a 7 and I'll be a happy bunny
Julius Posted June 11 Posted June 11 According to game director Julian Gerighty (great first name, no bias) the game's golden path will be 25-30 hours, and for completionists the adventure will likely run them 50-60 hours. Music to my ears.
Julius Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Ubisoft have revealed they've put more money into marketing Outlaws than any of their other games before it: Not surprised at all. Fallen Order and Survivor were HUGE, as we're the Battlefront games – why wouldn't you pool all of your resources into marketing a game when it's a guaranteed 5-10 million seller? And that's before even invoking the "open world"-ness of it all. Games is going to be huge. Smart but obligatory move from Ubisoft.
Dcubed Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Can't say that it shows so far. Have hardly seen or heard anything about the game myself, as someone who hasn't been following it.
Julius Posted July 22 Posted July 22 25 minutes ago, Dcubed said: Can't say that it shows so far. Have hardly seen or heard anything about the game myself, as someone who hasn't been following it. ...we're well over a month from launch, wouldn't that be why? I'd expect it to start ramping up at the start of August and have them go nuts for about 4 weeks in particular (2 weeks either side of launch, so mid-August to mid-September). I didn't take them saying they've invested in its marketing so much to mean that it's marketing we've already been privy to, but rather, they've got a whole bunch of stuff paid for and lined up. Which makes perfect sense, considering I've seen plenty of Acolyte marketing which has only really just died down after the show ended it's run last week – wouldn't make any sense for Outlaws to be taking Acolyte's spot on the side of buses until the show had run it's course and it was time to start ramping things up for Outlaws.
Dcubed Posted July 22 Posted July 22 We'll see. There's still time for things to change, but for a supposedly huge marketing push, it doesn't feel like it so far. Could well be that it's all gonna be concentrated in this last month, but considering that I had to google "Star Wars Outlaws release date" to find out when it's coming out? I'm not impressed thus far
Julius Posted July 30 Posted July 30 A bunch of previews have dropped for the game: General consensus is that this set of previews is much more positive than what we heard coming out of Summer Game Fest last month – which makes sense considering that the demo at SGF was linear whereas this seems to focus more on the open areas. Still going in expecting a mixed bag, but hey, positive previews are positive previews! 1
Julius Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Roadmap for the game's Season Pass has been released: Quote The post-launch roadmap for Star Wars Outlaws™ has been revealed, providing details on the open-world Star Wars game's Season Pass content. Two upcoming story packs are included in the Season Pass, and will also be available for standalone purchase. At launch, Season Pass owners will obtain the Kessel Runner character pack with outfits for scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion, Nix, and get access to an exclusive mission called "Jabba's Gambit." All players will meet Jabba the Hutt in the main game, but those with Season Pass access will gain an additional quest from the notorious Hutt Cartel. Just as Kay is putting together a crew for her big heist, she receives a job from Jabba the Hutt himself - ND-5 owes the Hutts a debt from years ago, and Jabba has come to collect. After launch, Star Wars Outlaws Season Pass owners will be able to continue their journey across the galaxy with two story packs, that will also be available for separate purchase. Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card – Coming Fall 2024 Kay is hired to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc tournament, but as she crosses paths with the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, she soon learns that another game is being played. When this first story pack is released, Season Pass owners will also get the Hunter's Legacy Bundle and the Cartel Ronin Bundle with additional outfits for Kay and Nix plus cosmetics for Kay's speeder and her ship, the Trailblazer. Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune – Coming Spring 2025 The Trailblazer's reputation precedes Kay as she runs into veteran pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who is looking to settle old scores with a ruthless gang of pirates. Almost feels a little nostalgic because I can't even remember the last time I saw a single player Season Pass roadmap, yet here we are. Bleh.
