Hero-of-Time Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 The english version of the presentation is now out. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/160428/index.html Past all the sales banter, a couple of things stood out to me. Talking about the 3DS For the Nintendo 3DS, our strategy over the fiscal year ending March 2017 will be to revitalize the platform by launching major titles, and to reach broader demographics worldwide, including females and young consumers. The installed base in Japan is fairly saturated compared to other countries, meaning there is reduced opportunity to sell Nintendo 3DS hardware to new consumers. Our efforts will focus on sparking discussion and maintaining momentum among current owners of Nintendo 3DS hardware. Due to our wide installed base, there are many titles, including major titles, from third-party software developers. Furthermore, there are many other unannounced titles, both first-party and third-party, that are proceeding with development. Talking about the Wii U Next, I would like to discuss our strategy for production and shipping of Wii U in the fiscal year ending March 2017. We plan to greatly reduce the amount of Wii U systems produced and shipped for the fiscal year ending March 2017, compared to the fiscal year ended March 2016.Taking into consideration demand for the new NX hardware and overall demand forecasts, we plan to ship 800,000 units. If you compare these two statements then it's easy to see that they plan on supporting the 3DS going forward but no such promises were made for the Wii U. All that was mentioned was that they are scaling back the production. While there maybe one or two secret titles to announce for the Wii U, just looking at these comments it looks like the Wii U will be the one to get replaced first.
Serebii Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/160428/img/30l.jpg At least 1.6 million Virtual Console Pokémon games. Crazy
Dcubed Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) I know I've said this already, but do bear in mind that the Wii U is suffering from manufacturing issues, which greatly limits the amount of consoles they could put out anyway. The March 2018 timeframe is far more interesting and telling I reckon (I don't doubt that the New3DS will outlive that though, even after it gets replaced). https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/160428/img/30l.jpg At least 1.6 million Virtual Console Pokémon games. Crazy The crazy thing is that the Smash and MK8 DLC did even more than that! Surprised at X&Y's legs as well. At this rate, it might end up catching up with Black & White after all (ORAS is now roughly on par with Fire Red/Leaf Green as well and will undoubtedly surpass it very shortly - hell, HG/SS aren't out of reach either. It may yet go on to be the best selling Pokemon remake of all time; and in typical fashion it's the worst one :p) Fire Emblem Awakening sold almost 1 million in the US alone! Amazing! (and Fates is outdoing it comfortably! What a turn of fortunes for that series! - Most crazy of all is that the sales do not count the purchase of the other versions as DLC; so the total sales are actually a lot higher than these figures are suggesting! ) Nice to see that Wii U software is outperforming 2015 so far (it has actually been steadily increasing each year, unlike the 3DS' software sales, which have continuously declined YoY since 2013), though when we get to the point where Splatoon came out last year, we'll see how that comparison fares... Mr-Paul Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I know I've said this already, but do bear in mind that the Wii U is suffering from manufacturing issues, which greatly limits the amount of consoles they could put out anyway. The March 2018 timeframe is far more interesting and telling I reckon (I don't doubt that the New3DS will outlive that though, even after it gets replaced). I really don't think you can say that they're only making 800,000 Wii Us due to manufacturing issues. Look at this from the presentation. Next, I would like to discuss our strategy for production and shipping of Wii U in the fiscal year ending March 2017. We plan to greatly reduce the amount of Wii U systems produced and shipped for the fiscal year ending March 2017, compared to the fiscal year ended March 2016.Taking into consideration demand for the new NX hardware and overall demand forecasts, we plan to ship 800,000 units. They're intentionally reducing the Wii Us they make, and making NX consoles instead. They're first and foremost seeing NX as a Wii U replacement. I really don't think you can read as much in the March 2018 thing as you want to believe.
Sheikah Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 800,000 if anything sounds like too much. They haven't got new big games coming to drive new sales, it'll just be the usual trickle. Even less now that NX is coming and after the competitors advertise their new console refreshes (likely at E3).
Agent Gibbs Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 And that right there is why i don't accept anyone who says the first NX launch will be the handheld, they want to revitalise the 3DS and are officially reducing production of the home console, it would make no sense (even by nintendo standards) to have the first releases in March be a handheld of any variety
RedShell Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 The crazy thing is that the Smash and MK8 DLC did even more than that! I'm still really disappointed that they don't appear to be doing any more DLC for MK8. Another set of tracks and even more characters would've been great. You'd think they would've been all over the idea too, seeing as how successful the first batch was.

Personally I'm just disappointed that we never got a proper Battle Mode. Now there's a part of the game that could've done with some proper DLC! Ahh well, gives 'em something to focus on with MK9. Here's hoping we finally get a good Battle Mode there. We haven't had one since MKDS! With 8 Player Smash being a thing now, can I dream for 8+ players local with the next one as well?
dazzybee Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Dcubed, you're really refusing to admit or all logic and sense coming out of all this says the Wii u is dead getting replaced and forgotten... Bizarre. It's okay to change your mind and opinions when facts present themselves you know. You don't have to be stubborn. Any ways, it's all very revealing and interesting. But the next few months are going to be agonising as we wait for more info....
VsPhoenix Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 The Q&A session is now available in English. Nothing much new but it does clarify a few things so worth a read.
