Wii U General Discussion

Recommended Posts

You know, you're not doing yourself or this place any favours ( especially this thread ) with comments like these. Just let it go.

Didn't mean it towards this thread. I was thinking more about Youtube commenters, GAF users etc. with it. Apologies. Poor attempt at humour.

Whatever. It's so draining.

Try receiving countless e-mails every day about Nintendo being lazy, being racist etc.

It's very grating. I truly apologise if I let my frustration shift over here.

Racist? How so? I always thought Nintendo liked midgets.

I just don't know what people on here want.

I post something to inject some positivity into the thread after a few PS4 heavy posts which I can tell certain members are probably thinking 'what is this the PS4 thread now?'... 'heaven forbid we be able to talk about the Wii U'.. and the first reply it gets just sends it right back to Wii U vs. the other consoles again.

People go on and on about the atmosphere on this board, the negativity to the Wii U and yet hardly anyone actually bothers to create any threads themselves. You want to enjoy being able to talk about the console and it's games with others enjoying it?... well create some bloody threads then!!... to which there will no doubt be the response 'well we have a thread for each of the games out at the moment'... well, then what do you want!?

How about a creative or imaginative thread?... 'oh no well it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to do that given the current situtaion'... oh is that the same negative situation Nintendo is in that apparently no one is allowed to talk about? Shall we all just sit in silence?

Ok so I'll create a Birthday thread for the Wii U for everyone to really come together and reflect on their great first year with the console, share highlights, fun screenshots, videos, stories...... barely makes 2 pages. But doesn't everyone want to share their love for the Wii U?... now I'm confused.

Seriously, why bother.

Seriously. Because Japan gets more events for Pokémon due to them loving it more and more places in Japan actually being willing to hold events, people claim GameFreak & Nintendo are racist and prefer Japan, especially as Japan had Pokémon Bank for 30 hours

I was coming in to drop a nice quick post about the eShop music and man, what happened here? What was going to be a 2 min post ended up being a good 40 min read :P it was interesting though! I have to say that third-party story was interesting, the times it took for a response from Nintendo are pretty shocking. It really does sound as though they don't care about third-parties at times.

And why would mothers care about the size and noise of a Wii U? I thought most had no standards for technology. My parents are still using this HUGE telewest tv box, it's literally bigger than an original Xbox. I always tell them "you can get an upgrade for free, it will be way smaller and load the on demand stuff faster" and all I get it, "why, this one still works?". I mean bloody hell, it changed to Virgin Media years ago now.

Anyway yeah, check the new eShop music, it's fantastic:bouncy:

On the subject of looks... I loved the look of the original Wii (when it's in its silver stand) and my Red Mario Wii is by far the most fetching thing on my shelf (out of the consoles I own)

I was never a huge fan of the Wii U look but my good, the PS4 looks even uglier than I had initially thought :p I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't for that big nasty crease.

And don't get my started on the GamePad, I like it as a controller but man, it's ugly as fuck. I think I actually prefer the original DS. It doesn't help that I have the Wii U GamePad upright on the stand and then my PS Vita lying down in front of it. The Vita just looks so sleek and shiny in comparison to that plastic beast.

Regarding the size of the Gamepad, its never been an issue for me, it just stays in the centre of my desk with one of these over the top when its not in use...

Being that this makes it flat when in storage my Pro controller then rests neatly on the top. :)

Oh man, I thought I was the only person in the world to have this :D It's lovely indeed, I got it off my brother with a Mario plush last Christmas! I sure hope he didn't pay the full RRP though, thats a shocking price! I usually plonk my Wii U on the charging stand when I'm not using it (comes in handy for Netflix as well else that just drains the battery) but I usually go to some friends house once a week with my Wii U and its very handy for keeping the pad safe on the journey there and back!

Junichi Masuda left Twitter for two weeks because of the abuse he was receiving.

The sad thing is - that kind of Twitter abuse is fairly normal in gaming these days. Not just for Nintendo, but pretty much everyone.

A few people have even left the industry because of how terrible the online gaming community can be, like Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk (BioWare).

Dat be crazy! Some people's sense of entitlement borders on psychosis. ::shrug:

There is a whole world outside...always available. And the graphics are amazing. Gaming should be a part of your life, not the be-all, end-all.

Experienced devs counter anonymous Wii U criticism

In a couple of tweets collected by Destructoid, Chris Arnold, founder of Ping developer Nami Tentou, rebutted an anonymous report outlining various hardware and development problems with the Wii U.

“Most of the main complaints pointed at in the article from the dev is aimed at pre-retail release SDK problems,” he said.

“I can safely say that the post release SDK kit given to developers now do not contain any of the listed problems and being an early on developer on any new hardware will pose challenges to those unfamiliar. Programming and coding is most of the time trial-and-error.

Wii U game development takes the same amount of work and attention as a Xbox 360 or PS3 game development. They’ve done their process of making their API understandable and useful to seasoned programmers. Wii U development = any other game console development time.”

Meanwhile, Jools Watsham of Mutant Mudds developer Renegage Kid twice told fans that the Wii U is not more difficult to develop for than other platforms.

Although both developers tackled claims made in the article about the Wii U’s architecture, they didn’t discuss matters relating to lack of third-party support and management’s lack of understanding of modern console networks, which were perhaps more concerning.

Many concerns about the Wii U’s hardware and development environment were raised and apparently put straight back to bed in the lead up to its release.

Not that big time names, but developers nevertheless. Another view to the debate, at least.

EDIT: Direct Tweets from Chris Arnold

Big JPG, so I'll keep it behind the link. Calls the article a "clickbait".

There is certainly an element of Clickbait to the article....But it does highlight a problem still, Nintnedo rushed out those initial dev kits and didn't support them when they should have. It changed by the time of NFS as criterion were very positive, and obviously in the case of the above, but it does still highlight how nintendo are/were playing catch up, and have turned some developers off......so they need to court them back and not blindly feed this by saying they can survive on first party

still the article write up leads you to believe its still the case, and this offers a nice brief counter point

its nice to have balanced views/articles, none of us can deny the WiiU is struggling and Nintendo aren't doine all they could to rectify the situation

EDIT: also i still can't get over how none of the team had an idea about the rivals networks....sstandard business practice is to know your competition...its baffling and self defeating to be that arogant and not find out

Nintendo sales talk is huge news to this industry as we're all concerned.

Seems like click bait with the timing and I don't recall a similar article for the PS3/4 or 360/XBone. Maybe this represents a bias? When I visited IGN the other day I was greeted by a HUGE XBone advertisement covering their article. How can they be impartial with such representation all over their website?

At least Euroganer went and researched a developer who has worked with WiiU. A better approach would have been to interview a current developer and then have presented one article arguing both sides of the story. This would have represented a broader approach and gained more respect.

A lot of what is represented is only anecdotal evidence but, if true, represents an interesting insight into the internal workings of Nintendo at least.

I think it is possible different developers will have different experiences in concern to developing games. That to me isnt my main concern. I was more concerned about how Nintendo pitched the console to the said developer and some of the quotes in regard to that.

.

Eurogamer usually has Nintendo games as banners on their site. Over Christmas they had Mario 3D World and Bravely Default plastered all over the site and the other day it was Mario Party 3DS.

We would like to apologise that we were unable to bring the Nintendo TVii service to Europe in 2013 as originally planned. Please continue to keep an eye out for further announcements regarding this service in the near future.

I guess they haven't given up quite yet.
