ViPeR Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 So, how many of you have to go through the painstaking, agonising process of shelling out all your well earned cash for your personal transport? This month i've paid for road tax, repairs and MOT. Also my cars so old the MOT is totalling to 400 quid . That is how badly I need my car for socalising and work.
Dan_Dare Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 that sucks the balls harder than a facial hair enhanced gay porn shoot in germany. i have a £170 bus pass that pays my way between my residence, uni and town for a year. proper safe.
Dawn Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 I have to service my car at the end of the month, and its the 40,000 mile service, so its going to cost a bit. Just paid for my insurance, MOT and in November it had its 30,000 mile service, so in the last 3 months the car will have cost me £450 or there abouts. It hurts that it all seems to come at the same time. And that is all around Christmas too.
Mr_Odwin Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 It always seems to pop up and the same time. We got 6 months tax one year so that seperated the mot and taxing time. A great idea it turns out.
Platty Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah it sucks. I paid £800 for my little fiesta 2 years ago. In november the MOT was due and it failed on 2 tyres and emissions.... i had to buy 2 new tires and a new lambda sensor, all in all cost me about £150-£200... then it started playing up so i bought and changed the plugs and leads, air filter, oil filter and gave it an olil change... thats about another £70 - £100. It's now running fine but just wont start in the cold.... Then of course is the insurance i have to pay which is crap. Is it all really worth it for a 1994 £800 fiesta ? gah!

I hate the things that bump up the price on your insurance. Like, the colour of your car. Red incures anger in other drivers.. Yes.. i'm sure it does. My MOT was a real bitch as it took them ages to figure out why my emmisions were so high, hence high labour cost. There's nothing much wrong with the car itself... hopefully.
Oli1983uk Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 i do all my own work on my cars, the only thing the garage does is the MOT and a few of the harder repairs on my car, saves aload of cash! the only thing i have done on a car is take the engine out and replace it! but that day will come! I am just about to give my 1990 Mk4 XR3i Escort a full service which should cost me about at most £30 rather than £100 from a garage! But the insurance i admit the killer! at the moment its £700 but in a few months its up for renewal so it will be dropping again!
RoadKill Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 What the hell is MOT? A required by law periodic inspection of every taxed vehicle in the United Kingdom. MOT stands for Ministry of Transport, but the test is also informally called MOT because you receive an MOT Certificate when your car is verified safe and working.

Well that pretty much explains it I was looking at a small engined old Civic for my first car. That or a Citroen C1 or something, super cheap they are.
Bogbas Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 My advice: take the civic, citroen's tend to suck.
Blackfox Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Go Japanese, They run forever. Or Ford, im really liking learning in a Ford. The gearbox is a treat and its pretty nippy On topic: I was quoated £2k for a Ford Ka's insurance. Bearing in mind its probably worth about £1.5k if that. Driving lessons are slowly leaching my bank account
Lammie Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Ka! But they're so........weird looking. Don't you people have Lancer's over there? They're cheap as chips (CE Model at least) and pretty reliable. And they don't look too shoddy.

Basically everything associated with driving is insanely expensive.
Guest Jordan Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 If you're getting a Ka get this one: And Blackfox, i agree. I'm learning to drive in a 2006 Focus, i don't like the new clutch (it's too far up >_>) but over all it's a very good car.
EEVILMURRAY Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Nope, because I'm an Epi. That is how badly I need my car for socalising and work. Us Epi's can't have as good a social life because we can't drive? you discriminating little whore!
ViPeR Posted January 13, 2006 Author Posted January 13, 2006 Us Epi's can't have as good a social life because we can't drive? you discriminating little whore! Clever how you turned that around , bueno muchacho bueno. Due to where I live, my mates and gf live a good half hour to an hour away and the public transport here sucks ass. So basically it's either get a car, or have no life. I doubt you have the same distance issues and if you do the public transport is already infinitely better than where I am because nothing could be worse.
James Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Well my cars due for a service on monday, and sometimes it doesn't like to go into 3rd from 2nd, so i'll get that looked at and I imagine it will be pricey if its a big gear problem.
EEVILMURRAY Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Clever how you turned that around , bueno muchacho bueno. Clever for an Epi? You Sunnovabeech! I doubt you have the same distance issues I do when I'm at Uni. And before you start no it isn't a Uni especially made for us Epi's, I'm beginning to dislike your tone. ¬_¬

BeerMonkey Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 my car 1.4 polo convertible costs me 600 pounds to insure had a little tap on the front right against a pipe in a car park 2 months ago so have to get that sorted soon as well grrr i love driving just not the money it costs to run it
LukeLee Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Cars are incredibly expensive. I am 22 looking for one of the cheapest cars to insure (a Corsa) and the cheapest i can get is about £600. I also looked up 18 year olds in the same situation and their quotes tended to be around £1,200 with a corsa. On top of that ridiculous insurance cost you have tax, repairs, MOT and petrol. It's a hella alot of money, how many teenagers are high paying jobs to pay for all that? I'm thankful my insurance is a bit cheaper at 22, but i wouldnt bother if i didnt feel i had to. I travel to university and it takes me 4 hours a day on public transport, in a car it would take me about 30 or 40 minutes each way (the trains kinda go very far out to turn back in on a different line). So for me it really is to try and get a life back. I also feel for anyone taking lessons, it is a constant drain also and after so many lessons you dont feel like you're learning much. The worst bit is paying for tests, it cost about £85 a test, alot to pay if you fail

In the end it was probably the nagging feeling of wasting another 90 odd quid that got me through my last test. It is a constant financial drain though. Teenagers get it the worst, especially if they're also paying for uni/college. My first insurance quote was 900, now it's dropped to 620 in a year. BTW, I hate people with epilepsy. They are smelly and gay.
EEVILMURRAY Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Bah! Can I say nothing you can't twist... cheesefishcakebanana. Yes, us Epi's twist, and jerk about. There's no need to rub it in our faces. Ban him now before he poisons this forum with more of his vile words! O_O
