Dog-amoto Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 How come hardly any people in here play Xpert Eleven? Check out the link in my sig! If you can spare 5 minutes a week, you can play. It's awesome. I don't get it to be honest. How are games played?
Ellmeister Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Basically, you have an imaginary team with skill levels and abilities and then select different formations and tactics against other people. There is then some complicated algorithm that decides whether you win, lose or draw like a normal game of football. It is easy to pick up once you've had a few goes. Ask Flink, he gave it a go and now he's addicted as well as Zell! For more information if you feel like checking it out
Eightbit Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Well, the 23-man euro squad will be revealed tomorrow. I'm going to throw out my prediction for all 23, just for s**ts and giggles. Anybody else care to challenge me? Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Scott Carson, John Ruddy. Defence: Glen Johnson, Micah Richards, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines. Midfield: Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry, Ashley Young, Theo Walcott, James Milner, Adam Johnson, Paul Scholes. Forwards: Peter Crouch, Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney. Any takers?
James Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 4 strikers is awfully risky, since Rooney will miss the first two games
Eightbit Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 4 strikers is awfully risky, since Rooney will miss the first two games Theo Walcott and Ashley Young could both be Utilised upfront if push came to shove ;P
Ellmeister Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Interesting that you've included Terry. No Downing I see Or Carroll.
Eightbit Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Interesting that you've included Terry. No Downing I see Or Carroll. I would think that there would be a pretty obvious reason why Downing is not included. And at the moment, in terms of consistency and experience, Crouch just edges past Carroll.
Charlie Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 And at the moment, in terms of consistency and experience, Crouch just edges past Carroll. Peter Crouch is a proven goal scorer at International level with 1 goal every 2 games. Andy Carroll is young, untried and rarely scores at club level. There's no competition who you should be taking! (Carroll, obviously, along with Downing and various other fringe players who want to make the step up. You're more than welcome to take Gary Caldwelll too if we can find a way for him to change allegiances.)
flameboy Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 I think they have to take Crouch to play in the 2 games Rooney is out for...if it doesn't work in those 2 games and we still qualify then Crouch can be dropped....although reading the Guardian it sounds like he may not play, no Ferdinand either.... Rio Ferdinand's broken relationship with John Terry may have ended his England career after Roy Hodgson decided to sacrifice the Manchester United defender from his Euro 2012 plans. Hodgson contacted Ferdinand on Tuesday to inform him that he would not be including him in his squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine next month. The England manager then travelled to Chelsea's training ground where he met Terry for the first time since taking the job and spoke at length to him and the club's other England internationals about his plans for the competition. Hodgson also rang Peter Crouch, the Stoke City striker, and perhaps most surprisingly Micah Richards, the Manchester City right-back, to let them know that they were also being left out. By that stage Hodgson had learned that Kyle Walker, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, will miss the tournament because of a broken toe. The Professional Footballers' Association's young player of the year suffered the injury during the game at Bolton Wanderers on 2 April and was assessed on Monday night. The 21-year-old would have been Hodgson's first-choice at right‑back and his absence makes it a particular surprise that Richards is being omitted. However, Hodgson does have alternatives for the position in the form of Phil Jones and Glen Johnson. Ferdinand's own disappointment is tinged by a sense of bitterness as he reflects on the end of a 14-year international career, encompassing 82 caps and three World Cups. The official line Hodgson will use is that it is purely because Ferdinand is now 33 and has suffered from recurrent back and calf injuries over the past three seasons. However, a dismayed Ferdinand is convinced it is directly linked to his issues with Terry and the potential divisions that might have been caused if the two centre-backs were both involved. Hodgson, who has also cancelled a training camp in Spain next week, is acutely aware of the bad feeling that exists since Terry was accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, Rio's younger brother, during Chelsea's match at Queens Park Rangers in October. Terry denies the charge, to be heard at Westminster magistrates' court on 9 July, and Hodgson's early inquiries have revealed that the case has already caused divisions in the England squad. The fear uppermost in Hodgson's mind was that those issues would intensify during a month away when all the feedback he has received has indicated that there is no hope of an end to impasse in the relations. In the end, he has concluded that it is unworkable. Ferdinand's dismay is not eased by the fact Jones, almost guaranteed to get a place in the squad, is one of his understudies at club level, while Hodgson also planned to select Chris Smalling, another of the players behind him in the pecking order at Old Trafford. Smalling's groin injury had opened another place but Hodgson has decided Ferdinand's vast tournament experience is not needed when there are younger candidates such as Joleon Lescott and Gary Cahill. Hodgson is also aware Jones can play at right-back or in the centre and that versatility could be particularly useful now Walker is out of the competition. In total, England now have five players ruled out through injury, with Jack Wilshere, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Jack Rodwell also not in contention. Darren Bent, battling to prove his fitness after an ankle operation, may be a sixth. Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard, the first senior England player Hodgson contacted after becoming manager, is favourite to be made captain. Ferdinand's own injury issues have played a part in Hodgson's thinking. The manager tried to ease the disappointment by ringing Ferdinand to break the news himself and he is entitled to point out it would have been a gamble relying on his fitness when England have three games in a week. Ferdinand, however, has not missed a game through injury since January. He has played all of United's last 12 games and will know, almost certainly, that he will not get another chance at this level. With Kyle Walker out injuried I cannot believe he isn't taking Richards...I mean Johnson is good sure...maybe he doesn't feel need to take 2 dedicated right backs as Jones can fill in there too.
Eightbit Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Apparently hes taking Carroll according to BBC sport due to his 'rich vein of recent form'. The lad has been playing well, but as a whole, throughout the season he has been cack. Grant Holt or Danny Graham would be better alternatives to Carroll. Would be very surprised if Richards is left out, what else does he have to do to get in the England squad?
Hero-of-Time Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 With Kyle Walker out injuried I cannot believe he isn't taking Richards Nothing more to add other than a nod of agreement.
Ellmeister Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Richards > Johnson I think. And I don't care how much bumming MadPool does (about Johnson!), my opinion won't change :p
Eightbit Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I heard that Roy is a statistics driven man. If Crouch is left out, then he certainly hasnt read this article: http://ongoalsscored.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/the-peter-crouch-myth/
Hero-of-Time Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 GK – Hart, Green, Ruddy DF – Baines, Cahill, Cole, Johnson, Jones, Lescott, Terry M – Barry, Downing, Gerrard, Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Parker, Walcott, Young, Milner S – Carroll, Defoe, Rooney, Welbeck No Crouch or Richards
Eightbit Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Players on reserve or 'On Standby' Jack Butland - GK Phil Jagielka -DF Jordan Henderson - MD Adam Johnson -MD Daniel Sturridge - FD So if Parkers injury problems flare up.... look at that sexy man whos going to walts his way into the squad
Mr-Paul Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 It's an odd squad. Rio should be there instead of Terry, Downing should be nowhere near the squad, and Crouch should be there in place of Carroll. Pleased that the Ox is in the squad. Looking at the balance of the squad, I would've probably taken one more defender in place of a midfielder. On the reserve list, who the hell is Butland???

Birmingham Goalkeeper who has been on-loan at Cheltenham Town this season. League 2. I cant believe Henderson is on that List. He looks like a boy who has won a competition to play in the Premier League by collecting Tokens.
Charlie Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I wonder if Hodgson is going to fall into the same trap as every other recent England manager and play both Gerrard and Lampard in the center even though it doesn't work that well. Drop Lampard and put Parker or Barry in (pref. Parker) and you have a much better team.

Unbelievable....I'd say Adam Johnson should be in there over Downing....not had an outstanding season but has certainly had stand out moment compared to Downing.... Here is an interesting stat; Adam Johnson PL stats: 26 apps, 6 goals. Andy Carroll & Stewart Downing combined stats: 71 apps, 4 goals. Beggars belief. I defintely think Crouch should have been there at the expense of perhaps a midfielder take that extra striker although I suppose Walcott and Young can play there if need be and Gerrard can play off the front man. Crouch must be gutted....in sheer numbers terms he should be going...He has been consistent all season whereas Carroll has been rewarded for a handful of improved performances... Ferdinand has every right to feel he is hard done by and thats his international career done for probably despite having a good season with United. If Terry isn't fit to be captain I don't think he is fit to play either. Also really Jordan Henderson what about Michael Carrick? Hodgeson I feel is off to the worst possible start as manager.
Murr Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Shocking... This is not the best start for Roy, the fans were already quite undecided on his appointment, now this will just send them into complete negativity towards him. It's not that I dislike Liverpool, but Carroll, Downing and Henderson on standby.... what the fuck? Just out of curiosity, do you think Roy may have tried persuading Paul Scholes out of international retirement?

He's 19 years old and talented. I saw him play at Oxford when we played Cheltenham and he was clearly above League 2 standard. Gifted but he knew it, came across as a bit cocky. I'm really not sure what Richards has to do to get in the England team.
Aqui1a Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I'm really not sure what Richards has to do to get in the England team. Play for Liverpool.
Ramar Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Anyone care to explain how this man didn't get a nod.. Best English striker (this season) bar Rooney, not even a sniff. And jokers like Carroll get a call up. Glad I'm on holiday for most of the pissing Euros.
