Ellmeister Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I don't get how both games now have terrible penalty systems....football games of old used to have such good systems, simple by effective. What is it about the FIFA penalties that people don't like? Once you know how to do it the technique isn't hard.
flameboy Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 What is it about the FIFA penalties that people don't like? Once you know how to do it the technique isn't hard. It's just meh. Doesn't feel like there is the accuracy you want there to be due to the nature of the system, which is ironic because I feel they created it to give more accuracy.

I just thought they made it harder for the kicker to make it slightly fairer for the defending goalkeeper. After playing PES last year at university, having done multiple penalties I still don't know which direction you're supposed to aim for to make it go goal bound!
James Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I am poop at the new penalty system, but I like it makes you work a bit more to get that goal. Just hit it down the middle any ways.
nekunando Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Super Soccer on the SNES has the best penalties in any football game I have ever played.. by a long way In fact, the game had a few things going for it that put some of today's football games to shame. The manual goalkeeping in Super Soccer worked amazingly well!
Ramar Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 What is it about the FIFA penalties that people don't like? Once you know how to do it the technique isn't hard. I think they're too complicated, you have to concentrate on direction, timing and power. The timing part is where the issue is for me, it's completely unnecessary. What part of a real penalty situation is that suppose to imitate? I can only achieve 2 outcomes, putting it wide or down the middle, with the stupid checked run, because I've pressed the shoot button twice.

Ellmeister Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 You should practice it with the aiming device on. Putting direction is easy, and the timing is easy enough now.
heroicjanitor Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Yeah I hit Fifa penalties in the top corner all the time. The problem for me is when I am the keeper and some does a bad penalty, which is just to my top right. If I hold to right to save it, he flings himself across the goal and it goes in... Works out that it is nearly easier to save the better penalties. I really don't like the Fifa 12 demo. They slowed the game down so much. Every player seems the same now, Messi has completely lost the personality he had in Fifa 11 too. He felt like Messi in that game, now he feels like a randomer who scores as long as you hold R1. Pressuring is non-existent, everyone seems to have loads of time on the ball now. Though it could be me not used to the defending system, and I have only played one session on the highest difficulty. Through balls don't work as the defenders are always first to the ball somehow. Runs off the ball don't seem to happen any more. The collision system was hyped to hell and back and I have seen nothing from it, people seem to fall down stupidly. Also I couldn't do the tutorial. I stayed in that green section for ages, many times and it wouldn't let me go past it. Had to skip the rest, so anything that is after the third of the 7 tutorial things I haven't learned unless I copped it myself (I'm quite sure R1 pressures now).
Emerald Emblem Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I grasped the tutorial alright, part 3,4 or 5 took a little longer than the rest otherwise I liked the Demo, though on pro I find it hard to score. Only goal I scored was a penalty in all 4 matches. However won 3 of 4 penalty shootouts.
Fierce_LiNk Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 COuldn't people just pick their favourite team that way? I think as a mode/option its a great idea. Looking forward to downloading this when I get back. I loved 11 personally, took some getting used to but liked it. The penalty system is absolute bollocks though, what were they thinking? And what are they thinking keeping it in?! You could just play as that team, but you play as a certain team for their characteristics. What would be the point of playing as Gareth Bale if you couldn't have his pace. Or, playing as Luka Modric without his pin-point passing accuracy and God-like-ness? In past games, I usually enjoy playing as AC Milan (usually because the bastard I'm playing against uses United, and I don't like going as the same team). I just find it easier to control the ball and pass it around as them. Also, their default formation always seems to allow for decent midfield and wing-play. The (new - implemented last year) penalty system in Fifa is awwwwful. As Ramar points out, it's harder than it needs to be. It's not realistic in the slightest. I had a shoot-out against my housemate and we both missed about 20 penalties each with 0 saved. It's just so needless.
Ellmeister Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 If you can't score the penalties it really is your own fault :p It isn't hard! I struggled to tackle on the demo, the lunging just makes you vulnerable to dribbling around the defender really easily.

It's actually easier to score a penalty in real life than it is in these damn games. (Unless you're Wayne Rooney today)
Ellmeister Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Have you tried the PES system? The FIFA system is practically perfection compared to that :p
James Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Fifa 12 will be great simply because they fixed those stupid shitty menus that always judder about and make it look poop while it's loading, saving and syncing with whatever it syncs all in one go. Been playing the demo more and I am enjoying it more, getting used to the tackling still only managed to score one goal mind. Seems you need to build build and be patient to get that final ball away.

Love going Napoli aswell. Having played more of the 12 demo and playing PES12 2nd demo (why is there a 2nd demo?), I have to admit i much prefer PES over FIFA. It's just so much more fun to play.
Ramar Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Have you tried the PES system? The FIFA system is practically perfection compared to that :p Comparing a broken mug to a broken vase, doesn't mean the mug is any less broken.
Ellmeister Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 No I was comparing a mug with a slight chip in it to a smashed vase actually.
heroicjanitor Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Lol, but the one at 16 seconds isn't a collision fail, it's a celebration. Hold L2 and left on the right analogue stick and he does that weird little dive as a celebration.
tapedeck Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 EA: bullshitting consumers with revolutionary features since time began.
Fierce_LiNk Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 0:48...that's actually pretty realistic. It's just like watching the real Arsenal.

ipaul Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I liked Fifa 11 - I mean really liked it. Once you got used to the newer dribbling and passing, it felt very fluent and under your control - something I don't get with Pro Evo anymore, which in my opinion has been very underwhelming since the 2008 edition. Fifa 12 however...I'm not so sure. I'm not sure if that defending is simply going to take time to get used to, or if it's just generally a bit crap. More play will be needed but I'm certainly not buying the game on launch. Not even sure I like the menu system which is what half the budget seems to go on each year :P Maybe when the game comes down to £20 or so. Also, why is everyone complaining about the penalty system? It's a bit awkward at first yeah but after a few shootouts it really very easy to put the ball wherever you want, as long as the player isn't complete shit. Pro tip: Aim right down the middle, but at the top. There seems to be a glitch where the keeper doesn't jump even if it's going at a moderate pace and he is positioned perfectly. You risk the occasional crossbar hit from this but it tends to be worth it. They don't seem to have fixed it in 12.
Diageo Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Haha, yeah they really have done it Herojan!
