I love how the majority of people in the thread said 360, the the OP decided on PS3 anyway. Why even ask? ::shrug:

He did list his reasons for choosing the PS3. Without asking he would have made a less informed decision.

Xbox has a vastly superior online more (more than worth the £32-£35 a year) and the much better controller.
Completely fail to see how live is vastly superior, PSN was attacked So it hardly seems fair, and other than that has all the same features.

It really annoys me that people think PSN being breached means that you 'get what you pay for'; you paid for a freaking expensive console, why should you pay for the ability to use your internet connection to connect to other people's machines. Almost as annoying as when people try condense the silly yearly subscription into the smallest unit possible, eg 15p a day, when at the end of its 7-10 year run it'll still be as if you bought another 360.

The obvious failing for me would be the Xbox have the worst failure rate of any modern electrical device that consumers purchase. I went through 3 in a year, that was enough for me.

You've clearly never met anyone who has owned an Acer product.

I had an Acer laptop....

It lasted far longer than an any of my Xboxes.

You really seem to have some vendetta against acer :heh: they've never done me wrong.

Im currently on my 4th xbox 360 since august 2006. My current one hasnt put foot wrong in over 2 years now.

As for the ps3 im one of the last to ask about it on this forum as only played on one a handful of times and have never owned a ps1 or ps2 or ps3 or psp

My failure rate stands at one each, so i have a pretty even experience.

Wii: Internal Wifi just broke one day

360: Red Ring

PS3: Graphics fucked up

All got sorted under warrenty.

I'm on my 2nd Xbox 360. My first is still going strong though, sold it to my brother. Had an Acer laptop break on me four times in the same year though (all four times exactly the same fault). Suffice to say, I've not had an Acer product break on me since :p

The Xbox 360 subscription isn't that bad really, though it is getting more difficult to justify it as PSN is fast approaching feature-parity. I think Microsoft realise this, it would explain why they've been doing so many Dashboard offers on Live subscriptions (£25 for a year for existing subscribers, £5 for three months for new users etc.). There's been rumours about new features recently, including the return of dedicated servers for console games.

I'm counting the whole console OS (as that's likely what a decent chunk of the subscription money goes towards) when I say this, and I said it before the PSN went online.

The Xbox Guide is incredibly useful and works really well, the party chat is brilliant and pretty much everything (invites/messages/etc) is really smooth and works really well. Even really simply stuff like pressing the guide when an achievement pops up and it takes you right to the achievement page so you can see what it's for.

The PS3's Cross Media Bar is just incredibly outdated by comparison.

Nope, all that stuff is free on silver so you're essentially paying for nothing. Except maybe the voice chat, but that is again something that should cost nothing (and doesn't if you use teamspeak or MSN, which Microsoft even own! They clearly see Xbox users as cash cows).

I think the Xbox dashboard is worse than the XMB, which is why they had to revamp it entirely once already. With the dashboard you're not as able to see all sections of the console at once, whereas the XMB neatly stores everything recognisable icons that even a novice could understand.

As the saying often goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it, which is why they took the PSP menu and put it on the PS3. It was tried and tested, well liked and functional.

Depends if you like to keep your credit card details to yourself or not.

It's all about the ColecoVision.

Both is where it's at! :D

TBH yeah.

I'd say Xbox. It's just unmatchable quality.

Lul.

thanks for you help........... LMAO

Righto.

Word.

Basically if you want to play Fable and Gears of War and Halo and you want to pay for online and you want to risk paying for multi consoles then buy an XBOX, and prepare for lack of games. But a good controller and incredibly rigid and well executed online system.

If you want to play the multi-BAFTA award winning games series Uncharted, starring 2009 GOTY, Uncharted 2 as well as countless other unique and unrivalled experiences (Resistance, God of War, Disgaea, LBP, Heavy Rain) with a great looking OS, lots of great media features and supports including Blu-Ray playing capability....as well as having the chance to win two entire games and an entire month of Playstation Plus once every year (to enter you only need to exchange the security of your card details and forfeit your right to online gaming for one month in the year), then buy a PS3.

The bottom line is, realistically you need all the consoles, but if its X360 VS PS3 then its whichever one has Uncharted.

Paying for multi consoles? The heck is that?

More than one units due to untrustworthyness of hardware.

But if they are going to break then it will likely be within three years. So you don't have to pay for the replacement.

Conveniently dodging the Yellow Light issue with PS3's there as well. I honestly, 100% can say that we get more people coming in now (as in, this year) with YLOD problems than with RRODs.

But I don't imagine it to be much of an issue soon thanks to the slim models for both..

My friend finished with his 360 because it was out its the 3 year warranty and RROD'd, so he eventually went and bought a PS3. Let's face it, the problem is more likely to occur with age, so it wouldn't suprise me if it often happens after 3 years. Tbh I think it's a disgrace that MS don't replace any 360 that breaks from this common hardware fault rather regardless of its age.

The hardware probably costs them fuck all and they'd make more money back by actually having a customer to buy games / shittily priced Kinect rather than no Xbox because they don't want to pay to have it repaired.

People who use high street GAME as their primary game store are not the brightest sparks, it wouldn't surprise me if they used the fan grate as a flannel warmer.

I had to return my Elite twice due to RROD, it was free and took about 10 days. I haven't had to return my smaller model console yet, and have not heard of many people who have. If I do, again it's going to be free. The YLOD is getting more stick lately than the RROD.

And I'm not even going to bother with the way you glossed over Gears and Halo, ignored ME1, Kinect and PGR as though they were irrelevant then wrote an oscar-bait speech about the PS3 games :heh:PS Resistance is shit

Glossed over them? I glossed over everything apart from Uncharted. Because I'm an Uncharted whore. I glossed over the PS3s other exclusives aswell.

Halo and Gears are absolutely fucking amazing and I WISH they were PS3 exclusives. Or available on both consoles.

Apart from those (and Fable) really what amazing exclusives does the XBOX have to offer? Not a whole lot/any.

(BTW I'm NOT saying I'm not biased).

I'm more see through than the Vicar with Thomas The Tank Engine Toys who is apparently just "an enthusiast".

How's your PS3 been?

Tbh, most of those 360 games are already out on PC, and ME2 onwards is now on PS3. I have ME1, wouldn't go back to it these days as I did think ME2 was a big improvement in terms of gameplay. Fable is good but not great also...

Posted

If we're really just going to talk about exclusives then... Oh man... Okay. It is difficult to ignore Uncharted 2.

Would I ignore Uncharted 2 for the superior controller, better online service/features and more user-friendly store and interface? Because I prefer achievements to trophies?

I don't know. It's crazy that Uncharted 2 is worth weighing against the other features of a console. It's like something that should be listed on the back of the PS3 box, next to "Blu-ray player". "It has Uncharted".

You have to buy both. Simple as. And just have the PS3 and Uncharted 2 and Gears of War 3. The world's most expensive two games.

How's your PS3 been?
Fine actually, thankyouverymuch Mr. salesman. But it was one of the older, more reliable models ;) That glossy finish must've kept the hackers out.

Lol wut, this post is ridiculous. :p as long as the postage is free it's fine if it breaks down a third time! Shite parts be inside the 360.

Whilst that's true (for older chipsets), it's not the point, I was defending against the claim that you would have to "pay for multiple consoles". And shite parts be inside the PS3, too.
