Posted June 22, 2011 Just watched Girl With The Dragon Tattoo as people seemed to rave about it when it was out. I thought that the characters were very dull, and the whole murder case thing was very uninteresting. The family members aren't emphasized enough so it's hard to speculate yourself throughout the film. The title character is extremely one-dimensional (probably purposefully) and I'm not really know why the book/film is called what it is as the tattoo seems to have absolutely no relevance/meaning. I also had to double-check the disc once it had finish as the quality of the Blu-Ray was rather poor (I'm guessing it wasn't filmed in HD or properly upscaled like some older films). Posted June 22, 2011 The film is honestly a lot more boring than the original text. The main character (blomquist?) was far too subtle. The tattoo is something that I never truly appreciated - I think there's a paragraph somehwere explaining why she got the tattoo, but I don't recall which book it's even in. In fairness none of the book titles are particularly appropriate or relevant to the subject itself. I indeed fell asleep through the original. I appreciate that lisbeth is all-round agreed to be a very accurate representation of lisbeth in the books, but generally speaking crime 'thrillers' such as this never translate great to the screen, big or small, because a lot of the narrative tends to be descriptive, or thought-led. In terms of translation the film was fairly accurate; it did not really miss much, it didn't add or derail from the story. The trailer for the americanised version is probably my favourite trailer for any movie for a while - probably because I've read the books and it was just extra familiar to me - but being able to focus on the image rather than the subtitles may lend a great deal of favour to this sort of dialogue-driven movie. I would say that if you watch Maltease Falcon, or other similar noir movies, you'll enjoy The Girl With THe Dragon Tattoo. If you don't read crime fiction (I'm still surprised it's, essentially, the best selling genre) then I don't think the scandinavian films will do much for you. Posted June 23, 2011 I'm in Pixar deprivation. I must see that movie. The ad alone looks gargantuan & drool-worthy. I'm actually reading "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest". I don't think I'll ever watch the films. It'll ruin the books for me. Salander is my life! I've been told I look like her too :p I think I'm correct in saying an American version of the films (think Daniel Craig as Blomkvist) will be released soon. Oh dear. I'm always left not wanting more when watching his performances. [..] Have you seen the original British miniseries? Can’t remember much of it, but it had a fantastic cast. Went to Amsterdam yesterday to see Trolljegeren and (Untitled). Finally saw the first title, after making a thread for it half a year ago, which [i found a bit disappointing] unfortunately. The second one made up for this though. It wasn’t playing in Rotterdam for some reason. So me and my brother made it a day out. I was contemplating making a thread for it, but I doubt it’d get much attention. (Untitled) is a comedy about the (New York) art and music scene. It seems satirical in one way, in that it seems to take a stab at avant-garde artists, but it comes around with a sweet and positive message. Still the various displays of “art” are hilarious, as are the characters who are involved, I guess especially to non-artsy people like me . The great thing about this film is, eventhough it had me in stitches, the film itself never critisises the art or these people. If it’s satirical, it’s in the way it portrays the commercialisation of art, and even in that it’s never too harsh. I’m glad I went all the way to Amsterdam for this one, wouldn't want to have missed this for the world. I’d recommend it, but I don’t see any UK releasedates on IMDB. It looks cool, until I realised that it was Transformers, at which point I'm disappointed and completely put off watching it.
