Sméagol Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Simple to experiment with, so try it out yourself, and don't forget to post some links to your automatically generated masterpieces :p. [Otomata] If you still want to see what it is first: [A minimalistic melancholic loop from me]
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Random placement = Not that bad. http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=400u1u783x8k5a8a8t3q32226a2f
MoogleViper Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I can't get it to work. I press play and nothing happens.
Sméagol Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 I feel stupid for asking, but you did fill some blocks in the grid right? And your speakers are on? :p I don't know. Flash up-to-date?
Sméagol Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 .. Hmm. I'm using Chrome. Is your Chrome up-to-date? Oh well, you've got it to work.

EEVILMURRAY Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Although they all seem to come out the same, I feel proud of this one. http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=0j0j448v7i0j6t6w243i5v1l603t3t7u1j3d6w1n
Sméagol Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Yup, it's just a plaything, but it's 5 minutes well spent . It's nice to make some quick melancholic background music for some montage or something though! No need for fancy music sequencers!
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) It seems to "judder" or something when you're not on its tab. Which adds some variety, the one I linked above just went into a rather upbeat mode but has since, sadly settled down into Samsung Alarm Clock Mode. EDIT: Another few well placed cubes and upbeat mode once again: http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=02028n486u027g7q5b1o7n6a3a7q7q182n587q1d3c A good tip is to go on Facebook and just open a picture, click away so it goes to the main page then click a new image to load up. It makes it judder a bit, like a re-re-re-remix. Edited April 19, 2011 by EEVILMURRAY
EddieColeslaw Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 That was fun. http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=5d544b1f2p417a8p1m7h5l3w1i
heroicjanitor Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 A lot of these sound the same to me, but nonetheless: http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=653z5z6t243k5k2y3m6v3s652d5s5m2y
MoogleViper Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 How do you create oscillators? (The white ones that move in a circle. Eevil has them on his last one.)
Ellmeister Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I'm a GENIUS http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=2o4k782g6f2h3a2z4p647p Nah I just added them randomly but it actually sounds half decent I think! I made a pattern in this one! Sounds good as well! http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=2w8a690n3y1x557g4p6l412j5f3d3b5v Such a good distraction from revision.
Sméagol Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 How do you create oscillators? (The white ones that move in a circle. Eevil has them on his last one.) I don't know.. I'd like to know myself. They usually appear if you have blocks colliding on the border. See this example: http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=060x0o0q3767827n (Too bad this one ends in an annoying loop, but it starts out nice..) ...it all sounds like the X-Files music to me... I love X-files music :p.

Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I must say I find Musical Squares more entertaining.
Rummy Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I knew of something which was kind of like a cross between this and Danny's! It was essentially a grid with a constant slide pulse across playing the notes that were filled, but you could apply cell automaton to it too so it changed after every sweep. End of the day they're all a bit samey I guess.
