Blink are a fantastic headliner, you'd have a ball seeing them on the same weekend as Foo Fighters. Like the sound of that!

Personally I'd like to see Elbow at a festival. I'm thinking they'll show up at Glastonbury next year..

The only act from that Download lineup so far I'd be interested in seeing is Rob Zombie as his shows are supposed fantastic.

I'll certainly be watching to see how the bill develops over the coming months. Never been to a festival but have always wanted to go to Download (I'm still kicking myself for not following through with plans to go when KISS were headlining a few years back). But if I'm honest, I'm more interested to see who's going to be on the smaller stages. Last couple of years when I've looked at the lineup, they've had some great bands playing the smaller stages, especially some of the new, up and coming bands.

I'll wait and see. If the likes of Halestorm and Rolo Tomassi get on the bill for the smaller stages like last year, I'll seriously consider going.

Halestorm were there this year and were very awesome! They could well be booked again next year as Andy Copping does book acts that were well recieved on a yearly basis (Pendulum, A Day To Remember, Steel Panther)

I don't actually know if i'll be going to download next year, but i really really do want it! even after 4 bands being announced.

I'm just massively excited! It's going to be an awesome 21st birthday present to myself.

If you haven't seen SOAD before it then it sure as hell is! Should hopefully be even better as they're not being pressured tour wise rather playing for the love of it :p

Really? Haven't followed it all. Good stuff then.

Absolute nonsense about Blink 182, I really can't be arsed to argue your point, suffice to say it's nonsense. They've every right to be there.

Way to take my point out of context :nono:. But hey, it wouldn't be the internet if someone didn't do that. What I was getting at was that while I'm a big fan of the Foo Fighters, I'm not a fan of Blink 182 and for me, it's one good headline act being 'cancelled out' with one bad one. I never once said Blink 182 didn't have a right to be there. I'm not that ignorant as I know there are plenty of people out there that would be happy to see them headline, it's just I'm not one of them.

Yeh, I saw Halestorm were on the lineup this year (think they opened on the main stage on Sunday which is pretty big for them as their debut album came out a few weeks before the festival). Hopefully, they get on the bill again next year as they're supposedly fantastic live.

Exactly, I've not seen any of them, so it'd be nice to go, my friend promises me we will see both SOAD and LP. Woo.

Unfortunately, any good done by making Foo Fighters a headline act would be undone by having Blink 182 as another so hopefully that rumour doesn't turn out to be true.

I hardly think I took it out of context. You should make it more clearer next time that you're talking about your personal view and not trying to speak for everyone else.

Yeah I think they've done it most years, not the UK leg of the festival, but elsewere. They have headlined the UK Sonisphere before though.

I think the pull of this is that it's the 'big 4 of thrash' together at one festival for the first time in the UK.

it certainly is a big scoop.

Yeah I get where you're coming from, I'm gonna wait a while and see who else gets announced. Might just go on the Sunday.

Don't think I'm a festival person, I don't mind camping, but this bear definitely doesn't shit in the woods.

2002 and 2003 i Camped in the regular campsite, but i was a young warthog (16,17) then and didn't really mind the lack of sleep or the shouts of 'timmy' all through the night.

2008 and 2009 i slept in my car in the carpark (saved money on the ticket this way too as i only needed arena tickets not camping) that was actually really really awesome as there was space, silence on a night (other than the friends i was with and the drinking activities before sleep), it was warm, if it rained on a night there was no way my car would let me down like a tent does, and was close to the arena too so didnt have to hike miles in the day.

2010 slept in the Family camping part, and that was alright, just really really crowded.

I Love festivals when you're in the arena with the bands, the beer, the heat (2009 was just.. best festival experience ever)

but the sleeping bit i'm very particular as i'd like to be able to sleep the drink off, relax in the morning if i feel like shit, and be warm in the night and dry if it's raining.

ON TOPIC - I've never seen Metallica, so a friday ticket would do me fine for the Sonisphere, where as saw Slipknot in 09 and will be seeing Biffy Clyro next year with the Foo's anyways.

Last time I Saw SOAD was 2002, & they are a band from my school / college days. so would love to see them again. and Never seen Rob Zombie and would love to see him too.

Weekend ticket for Download and Friday for Sonisphere (So far anyway)

2009 - I had the best time ever, my first festival camping, great to see pendulum, prodigy, slipknot etc etc!

2010 - complete shite, ac/dc ruin everything and completely ruined the sound for the other stage because of their stupid train.

I'm just not going this year because I don't think I want to do camping at download anymore, I know sonisphere is run by the same people, but because it's new it doesn't seem to have been destroyed so much, at download it was over-priced (even for a festival, I had one guy an ice-cream van losing 12grand over three days just to stay there..), the camps were over-crowded and everything was disgusting.

If it ended up like 2009 again, I'd go, but there's no guarantees even in family camping it was reported to be ridiculous, so I'd rather not.

Day tickets all the way, given myself and my friend only live less than an hour away each.

09 without a doubt - Awesome.... not so much Faith No More... but Slipknot!!

and as you mention Pendulum, Prodigy... KoRn, Hollywood Undead <3 , A Day To Remember, Steel Panther, Blackout (ssshhh i like them).... and my personal highlight of the weekend Limp Bizkit :)

Exactly, sonisphere for me except slipknot, doesn't hold any interest, it will be full of gits who believe just because they've liked metallica since they were 3 they can shit on everyone else. (and yes, yes I know not all metallica, slayer fans are like this.)

I just don't like that music and refuse to go just to see one band, after all it's a truck load of money.

Oh wow, the big four at Sonisphere (really it should be the big 3 plus sideliners Anthrax because they kinda blow). Fuck download this year, think its gonna have to be Sonisphere.

I've only been to Download the once, in 2009. Probably my favourite festival experience so far, so many great bands!

I've been to Sonisphere both years and I love it. Smaller crowd, but that makes it better in my opinion. More friendly, less rowdy and I get to set up camp really close to the arena. I love how there are no clashes between the two main stages, I don't know why other festivals don't do this. So yeah, I'm probably going to go again in '11. Never seen Megadeth before, so I'm very excited!

Also Bard, apart from Maiden and Rammstein, Anthrax were probably my band of the weekend last year. Played a fantastic set!

Posted

That may be the case, but I'm sure the absence of any good songs must have been a hamper :heh:. Haha, I donno, I've never really been a fan.

You gonna go Sonisphere this year then? I'm gonna wait and see before I decide between that and Download, last year was an absolute logistical nightmare, getting in and out of the stage areas, as well as the fact that a shitty quarter pounder with cheese was fuckin £8.50.

I've always wanted to go Pukkelpop in Belgium too. They had an amazing amazing lineup in 2009. Man, even Kraftwerk were there! Can't believe I missed it :(.

I don't want to be snotty, because that's not what I'm trying, but because those who run download also run sonisphere, I imagine it'll be much the same eventually. Which is a shame as it shouldn't need to be that much.

It's what puts me off camping, I can't afford another 400quid for 5 days.

STILL heard nothing from the Download Camp... Come on Andy... You're losing it a bit here.

:) its all about Sonisphere! Going to be my 3rd year. It's amazing!

If you havent bought tickets, and are going too, could you do me a huge favor and use my boyfriends FMC code? 1k965943. Enterable on seetickets/giantic. The FMC stands for Founder Members Club and membership was offered to those who showed their support early for the inaugural Sonisphere UK in 2009. We need 12 referals to get a free ticket for next year, doesnt cost you anything, but the more people that use our codes could get us £180 of free ticket...

Really appriciate it.

I'm so excited, it looks like I might end up going by myself to be honest, my friends end up being so fickle. But I refuse to miss Pendulum after seeing them in 2009.
