Nolan Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Vanquish for me. I had no idea Dante. Sarcasm aside, Vanquish isn't even a FPS...
dwarf Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 Exactly true. I just made the mistake of watching the first 5 videos in this IGN coverage of the multiplayer: http://uk.media.xbox360.ign.com/media/142/14276699/vids_1.html It looks fucking awesome. Argh, is there no get around? Going to have to borrow a 360 off a friend or something. Bungie are developers for gamers, you can just tell.
Nolan Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Ahaha Perhaps you could rent a 360 even if you don't have any 360 owning friends willing to part for a time. The beta was pretty rad too, and I'm not a big fan of Halo multiplayer.
Cube Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I'm not too excited for Reach - the beta wasn't exactly great. However, as everyone else will be getting it I know that I'm going to end up spending loads of time on the multiplayer. So I may as well not watch anything and let the game surprise me. I tend to do that (not watching any videos) with a lot of games I know I'm going to get.
Dan_Dare Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I'm watching all the multiplayer videos because I've already played that part and as I've been playing Halo online more or less ever since Halo 2 on the oldbox, I just want to see what's going on there. Campaign spoilers are a HELL NO though. There's literally nothing I can gain from them and I can only loose out by not experiencing things first hand on my 360.
Wesley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Deus Ex 3, Portal 2, Half-Life: Ep.3 and whenever they finally bring out CS2.
Cube Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Half-Life: Ep.3 You'll be waiting a very long time...
Dan_Dare Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 oh yeah I forgot about Deus Ex. That looks absolutely sick.
Wesley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 You'll be waiting a very long time... I'm hoping a Black Box will be released with Ep.3, Counter-Strike 2 and something else. I can dream.
Ganepark32 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 In all honesty, I reckon HL2: Episode 3 will end up simply being Half Life 3. It's been in development so long that I'd guess Valve will probably have move it onto another engine because while it still looks respectable, Half Life 2's engine is starting to show its age.
Cube Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I thought the whole point of Source was that it could different parts of it could be improved, so that it can be constantly updated to keep up with the times.

Wesley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Source is starting to show its age, yes. But, as Cube said, they have been updating parts of it for each new HL episode and also focusing on certain areas (using Source for AI partners, improved animation, open environments, etc). I think that switching engine for a smaller release would be a bit daft to be honest; especially considering how much framework and content is going to be re-used.
Jimbob Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I havn't got any plans for purchasing any FPS's over the next few months, to be fair none of the above interest me as of yet.

And you don't get much smaller of a release than Half Life 3.
Wesley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I don't understand. I meant that switching the engine out for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 would be pointless and would create more work. Not only actual engine work, but also in terms of actual content Valve reuse for the episodes. Switching engines for Half-Life 3 seems obvious though.

But what was mentioned is the thought that Episode 3 will just become Half-Life 3 with a new engine. Not just a new engine for Episode 3, but essentially no officially named Episode 3. Honestly though, the episodes themselves are bigger games than some others....well 2 was at least.
Wesley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Oh right. I don't really think Valve will just make Episode 3 HL:3 itself... They've been very focused on storyline and just taking that alone into account is pretty shitty... But... then again, it is Valve who do what the heck they like.
McPhee Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Not sure what I'm buying this Christmas yet. Reach and Fable 3 are a given, but undecided on the rest. Yet to play Fallout 3, so I'll have to give that a go before buying Vegas. Battlefield 3 and BC2: Vietnam are good bets though (whenever they're released). Battlefield 3. Was my big one but EA/DICE have practically dumbed down the franchise so much there doesn't seem to be much hope. Also what's with linking BF and MOH betas? They are vastly different games why should players be forced to play both. Having said that Current BF2 leaderboards show less than 350,000 unique players to date... EA will follow the sales and thats where BC2 wins hands down. The franchise is pretty much changed forever and for the worst. If it was going to be like Bad Company they'd just call it Bad Company 3 surely? I also seriously doubt they'd be making Bad Company 2: Vietnam. Battlefield 3 will be traditional Battlefield. Would kinda void the point in making it otherwise.
Choze Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) It might be baffling if you havent played the PC BF. Either way the moment EA brought them out it was over. No point in explaining it again and again. BC2 is utter rubbish next to previous games quite frankly. Yet is commercially and media-critically(not players) the most successful BF to date. BF3, a true one which pushed the genre forward wont happen ever again for obvious reasons. Nowadays we just put up with more of the same old crap like BC2 or MW2 every year again again. I actually prefer BC2 over BF2/2142.
