GeeKay Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Ello chaps. Been a lurker here for such a long time but only really decided to post recently. I was wondering if anyone has tried Limbo on the 360 yet. It looks divine, but sadly I've just recently opted for the PS3 to complement my Wii. Not that I'm really complaining, but I've been watching the development of this indie title for quite some time. I'm just gutted that it isn't for the PC as well.
MATtheHAT Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I enjoyed it. Short but teeth-rottingly sweet. Welcome btw.
Shorty Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) I played the trial, it has an atmosphere like no other game I've played. The silence and the depth of the backdrops create quite a surreal experience. At first I decided it was too expensive for me, but now I'm having second thoughts.... Edited July 25, 2010 by Shorty
GeeKay Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 Oh you're tempting me, lol. If I brought a 360 home on top of everything else I've got, the missus would treat it the same as if I brought a stray dog home with me. There are things that you keep your eye on that always lure you towards a particular system. All in all, I am far more impressed with the indie scene on XBLA than the competitors equivalents.
jayseven Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Playing the trial at the moment - love the atmosphere of it all. But I'm STUCK and I keep drowning the poor chap and I feel really sad. I might top-up on points and get this. But only if I can get past this bit and not get too annoyed. EDIT: BWAHAHA I AM SMARTER THAN YOU, GAME!! But seriously... awesum. ... ok so stuck again. Lols.
Coolness Bears Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 It's all about the bear traps. I got the demo the other day. the game is art. will buy when have money or my friend will. :p
martinist Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 gaaaaaaaaah!!! anybody get to the mine cart part yet. That part is really starting to piss me off >__<
The Bard Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Mine cart bit? You mean with the two weights obstructing the pathway which you need to raise by hanging off the pulley system they're attached to? Yeah, that shit was easy yo =p.
Dog-amoto Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Am stuck on this game but determined not to use a guide!! After all, I managed to suss out The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom (buy this game by the way if you enjoy Limbo) and Braid, so I'm not gonna let this beat me damnit!!
flameboy Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 hope it comes to PS3 at some point and its only a timed exclusive!
GeeKay Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 Am stuck on this game but determined not to use a guide!! After all, I managed to suss out The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom (buy this game by the way if you enjoy Limbo) Now there was a hard game. I was doing well with it until about half way through and it is as taxing as hell. Really good game though.
martinist Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Mine cart bit? You mean with the two weights obstructing the pathway which you need to raise by hanging off the pulley system they're attached to? Yeah, that shit was easy yo =p. I mean the end of the mine cart part where the cart hits a switch to electrify the floor. I just can't get the timing right on it.
Aimless Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I mean the end of the mine cart part where the cart hits a switch to electrify the floor. I just can't get the timing right on it. The trick is to push the cart left up the slope then climb on to it and jump to the inactive electric flooring whilst the cart's momentum continues to carry it a short distance uphill. That buys you a vital couple of seconds, and it doesn't hurt to jump when nearing the end of the electric flooring either.
martinist Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Ah great, finished it now. Good while it lasted ^__^
jayseven Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Took the plunge and bought the game. Just gotten past the end of the demo. Read a review in The Times which said the game's only 4 hours long, so I'll be playing it fairly sparsely.
Shorty Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I've not finished it yet. I've had about 3 goes on it, and I took it quite casually and spent time looking for the hidden... white things. Rather than just sitting down and finishing it in one go, the way I've been playing it has made it feel quite lengthy.
SPAMBOT4000 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Bought it, finished it and loved it. Really inventive game. Just a shame the first half of it is far more creepy and ambiguous than the second.
jayseven Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Just over half-way now. Just did a bit where there was an elevator -- I found I could jump onto a bit of rope on the left by leaping from the top of the elevator but I couldn't do anything from there so just gave up and moved on to a bit with a fly/mosquito. I tend to do a couple of tricky bits each time I play, now.
hankdesign Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I have got stuck on the trial. I can get past the spider thing, can anyone let me know how to do it?
Coolness Bears Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I have got stuck on the trial. I can get past the spider thing, can anyone let me know how to do it? Bear Traps are your friend, snaps the legs right off! I almost bought this the other day but cannot justify the 1200 points. >___<
hankdesign Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Bear Traps are your friend, snaps the legs right off! I almost bought this the other day but cannot justify the 1200 points. >___< LOL, I saw the one just before the spider but cant reach it
Shorty Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Dodge the spider a couple of times and listen carefully
jayseven Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Playing this for about 10-15 mins every other day. I usually get stuck then give up, then return and solve it pretty quick. Currently I'm in the revolving section after the box/circular saw stuff (don't remember exactly where), having started my session with the mosquito bit.
Shorty Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I finished this on Sunday. Got some of the cleverer hidden achievements but clearly missed some obvious ones. Brilliant game, proof that basic gameplay still provides heaps of enjoyment when well executed. Did anyone else think for a moment that there was going to be no "ending" or credits and it would all just start again? That would've been a great idea, really living up to the name.
S.C.G Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Sequel confirmed... http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/545430
