Oxigen_Waste Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Yeah, I was kind of thinking more in a rallying way (that's probably due more to what the song has become rather than the actual song). 'Settle For Nothing' has to be my favourite, I'm thinking. Mine is either People Of The Sun, Freedom or Wake Up... Probably People Of The Sun, fantastic intervention song.
Rummy Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 This news about them both being on the same label isn't anything new, I thought it was common knowledge now? It would have been unlikely to have found a song that wasn't signed to a major label anyway, so it wouldn't have made a big point to them. For me my fight was with x-factor and the loss of the classic christmas number 1 battle, and either way I'm sure we can't have made sony all that much. How much money can you make on a 29p download compared to a CD that costs a couple of quid? Of course, it's not like that many who bought RATM were converts from the Joe camp, but meh, I wasn't bothered about trying to fight the big labels just yet...
Esequiel Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 What the fuck is the world coming to, 4 years of xfactor winners followed by this piece of shit music..... if you can call it that. Where are the real christmas songs?? The last original christmas song that hit number 1 was by Cliff Richard in 1990! Gah!
Serebii Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Thing is, next year everyone will be setting one up. Divided focus meaning X Factor 2010 will win thus making your protest useless
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Why do you want Christmas songs on no1? Christmas songs suck ass! Except for Charlie Brown, of course...
Daft Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Thing is, next year everyone will be setting one up. Divided focus meaning X Factor 2010 will win thus making your protest useless That's not how things work. Plus, part of the point was to get other big challenges for the Xmas number one that weren't the craptastic X-factor option. Not really sure what your point is? "X-factor is going to win anyway so why bother!" ...Yay...awesome...
Nolan Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I like Sleep Now in the Fire as my Favorite. Really just for Morello's Guitar Work.
Daft Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Mine is either People Of The Sun, Freedom or Wake Up... Probably People Of The Sun, fantastic intervention song. Yeah, good picks. Underrated one is 'Mic Check', love that track.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Why do you want Christmas songs on no1? Christmas songs suck ass! Except for Charlie Brown, of course... Because unlike you, many people love Christmas songs and want to listen to them at Christmas time. N-E Band Aid for Christmas number one 2010!
Gio001 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Yay!! just battled through the snow to get home from work & RATM no1. Radio1 should play the unedited version just to celebrate. As for favourite RATM tracks i love the whole first album & sleep now in the fire & people of the sun from the others.
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Because unlike you, many people love Christmas songs and want to listen to them at Christmas time. N-E Band Aid for Christmas number one 2010! Name a good one!!
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Name a good one!! John Lennon - Happy Xmas Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmas Time Wham - Last Christmas Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? See? Then there are all the classic Christmas songs which are constantly being remade. For instance, I am in love with Celtic Woman's rendition of Carol of the Bells: Edited December 20, 2009 by Dannyboy-the-Dane
DuD Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Anything off Battle of LA is a tune. I also really like their cover of E.P.M.D's I'm Housin, its far better than the original. Mic Check is a tune, as is People of the Sun. Fuck it pretty much every song they've done is a tune.
Rummy Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Thing is, next year everyone will be setting one up. Divided focus meaning X Factor 2010 will win thus making your protest useless My, did you just come full circle and return to your original point but on the other side of things? Doing alot for your credibility there. Next year is a different year either way, I'll be honest and admit I don't hold too much hope for it, because it'll be hard to find a good banner to unite under. Rage was good because there was no conflict of interest, and the whole thing was very quickly done. Next year, as you do say, if people set up all different ones it'll split the effort. I'd like it to be a christmas song, or maybe even like Daft said, someone unsigned, but there'll be people for each of those, then people for a song like RATM or something alternative, and within those a different opinion of each. Possibly. This year there wasn't room for thinking, but hopefuly, HOPEFULLY, it'll still have some impact on next year's.
CoolFunkMan Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I was at my girlfriend's when we heard the news, only just got back. This is an amazing outcome, it's about time a decent track topped the charts, and beat maufactered bullshit!
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 John Lennon - Happy XmasPaul McCartney - Wonderful Christmas Time Wham - Last Christmas Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas? See? Okay, you're one of those cases of awesome personality coupled with incredibly bad taste. Seriously now... are you for real? That's not a joke?
Daft Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Slade - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday Pretty much the only non-classic Xmas song I like. It's ace, don't dis.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Okay, you're one of those cases of awesome personality coupled with incredibly bad taste. Seriously now... are you for real? That's not a joke? Nope, not a joke. I love those songs. I associate them with so much Christmas joy! Who decides what's "good" and "bad" taste, anyway? But thanks for the compliment.

This is an amazing outcome, it's about time a decent track topped the charts, and beat maufactered bullshit! I opened both this thread and the Brittany Murphy one at the same time, you can probably imagine my immediate confusion upon reading your post until I reached the word 'track'. Anyway! Christmas is about all those bad songs! AND the fact that there ARE other christmas songs at the same time, whether they become number 1 or not, that's what I like, the big battle of them, with a little handful of christmassy songs trying to duke it out for the top spot.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Well, nobody decides it, really. But Wham? Dear lord! What? To be honest I prefer Last Christmas to Killing in the Name.

Lol, I can imagine myself doing the same thing! xD
dan-likes-trees Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I love it. I really can't believe it got to number 1. Awesome hearing it on the radio after all that rubbish I just sat through. Internets wins! Little bit of history made this week. The power of Social Networking, the first ever download only song to reach number 1 (I think?) and a big Screw you to X factor manufactured rubbish. And not forgetting over £65,000 raised for Shelter. Naw, Gnarls Barkley or whatever got there a few years back with Crazy I believe. Still, despite having stated I think the whole thin is silly... really happy to see Rage win! Got a text telling me (bummed i missed the whole chart show ect) and I let the room know, leading to an eruption of cheers. Very very exciting stuff, especially consideirng I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention to the charts in years. Summary of thread: Rage are not christmassy. Its hardly a fuck you to commercialism. X factor is and always will be massively wank. Killing in the Name is a silly song to pick out of the Rage catalogue. Boring people think Rage is nothing but shouting. The campaign is flawed and ironic. But Rage getting to christmas number one? Without a doubt, completely and utterly fucking awesome. Internet forever.
Platty Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Fairytale of New York- The Pogues. Done. I would back that. Made it to No. 18 today so with a campaign behind it, surely it can't fail. Best Xmas song in my opinion. Love it.
