Has anyone grabbed there Dualshock3 and held it like the guy in that pic is? It's horrible having half the controller hang out your hand.

No thanks.

I just picked mine up off my desk with one hand. It really is awful to hold like that. And the one way it feels comfortable to hold, its awkward to use the buttons. They really need to re-think this. Even if they just released half a dual-shock 3 with this, it would be fine.

It was clearly just a in Dev demo. There will definately be a nunchuck type accessory. I am assuming half a dual shock is deva don't waste time.

yeah easily. If not 3rd parties will.

I cant hold a DS3 at all with one hand. Funnily these trailers havent been promoted by Sony probably because they are aimed at people like us.

Under Siege to Support Sony Motion Controller

ruins_272.jpg

Under Siege is an upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive game from Portuguese studio Seed Studios. The real-time strategy game was one of the first games to be announced to use Sony’s latest PhyreEngine, which “provided a solid and efficient foundation to explore the potential of the PS3â€, according to Lead Designer Bruno Ribeiro. Very little has been known about this game, with an original release date set for late 2009.

Now, however, Seed Studios have announced, on their developer diary, that “Under Siege now officially supports the new Sony Motion Controller.â€

The developer continued:

“We are extremely happy with the new controller and we are hard at work making sure it works perfectly with our game. So besides having the gameplay and game design tailored perfectly to the Dualshock3 we will also took the extra time to make sure the Motion Controller is well implemented and not just an extra feature.â€

Unfortunately, the game has also been delayed to a “launch window†of Spring 2010, presumably to release around the same time as the Motion Controller. However, the extra polish time allowed by the delay has enabled Seed Studios to “include some new features that were missing and [which they] wanted to be in the gameâ€. Currently the game already supports many, often neglected, features including

- Native 1080p (not upscaled )

- Replay recording with option to upload to YouTube

- Motion Controller support

- Splitscreen for Co-Op and Competitive

- 4 players online

- Video and voice chat in game and on lobby (with tiny windows on the corner!)

- Photo Mode (WipEout we envy you…)

- Custom Soundtracks

As well as continuing Sony’s ‘Play, Create, Share’ Motto with a full blown in-game editor where you can:

- Create your own level (single player, multiplayer) or a full campaign with your story

- Use the same tools that we used to make the Single Player Campaign

- Upload it all for everyone to see (and make us sweat with the all the wrong possibilities that a tool like this provides)

Looks like supports for the MoCos are pretty decent. Very promising.

In regards to the controller,

Sony Still Pondering Names, Options For Motion Controller

500x_500x_wand.jpg

It's simply dubbed the Wand Controller. For the time being, that is.

"There are several candidates for the name of the controller," said Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida. While still undecided, those names are making their way through Sony, being run up the flagpole and getting feedback from various internal departments.

"The SIXAXIS and the DualShock 3 — while great product names — are based on the actual tech," Yoshida explained. "The name we pick for the Wand Controller maybe won't be so techy."

The reason is this: Sony is hoping to appeal to a casual and core market, so the company needs a name that can convey an image or a brand to both groups. And for Yoshida, the Wand Controller could very well expand the PS3 user base in the same way that the Eye Top did for the PS2. That's not to say, it's a casual only peripheral. "Hardcore gamers are surprised how accurate and responsive the Wand is," the exec added.

At Sony Japan's press conference, Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi and his demo demoed a Wand version of Resident Evil 5, called Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition. Later, Takeuchi joked that Sony should call the Wand Controller the Alternative Controller to do a clever marketing tie-up with RE5 Alternative Edition. The RE title was controlled by the Wand in one hand and the the PS3 DualShock 3 in the other hand, using the buttons and analog thumbstick as a make-shift Nunchuk.

There have been rumblings that Sony is currently working on a proper Nunchuk peripheral — that it is already in the design phase. Yoshida was unwilling to confirm this secondary peripheral, but did concede that using the PS3 DualShock 3 as a Nunchuk was "the cheapest solution". Yoshida wasn't being glib: While the PS3 DualShock 3 might not make the most attractive Nunchuk solution, it does appear to work.

Meaning? Meaning that gamers won't be forced to shell out for yet another peripheral.

It does seem incredibly unlikely they aren't working on a second MoCo.

I wonder if the little globe on the end of the ''Three-mote'' is as fragile as it looks

Sony's always been good with build quality (to my knowledge) so I wouldn't worry too much.

Upon watching a 30 minute hands-on preview on Destructoid, ive decided i want nothing to do with this thing.

It recaptures everything i hate about the Wii, including the jittery cursor, the generic graphics and the constant recalibrating and i feel violated for even watching it

From a plainly logistical standpoint you only need one controller. Isn't that how the Wii does it?

It will be interesting to see how Sony package it.

Well i dont know. But to be fair in the end it probably isnt too much (even though they went ahead and covered all bases) given that there are tons of add ons and extras for Wii and likely Natal games.

Edit:

Also here is a great tech demo showing the body tracking and no lag and all that jazz.

Super double edit:

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1096921p1.html

This is the article it's from. It's encouraging to see so many titles supporting Move. I think that's its biggest strength - it can easily be substituted into games that use a DS3 but the DS3 is always an option.

Yeah, could have been alot worse (like the original article in that link stated).

I'm still not sold on this or natal yet though. :/

What would sell this to you?

That new Echochrome ii game looks immense...

...and just the fact it's so easily integrated into normal games has me sold.

I'm basically going to get one set of these fairly intuitive and sensitive new controllers so that I can play a bog standard FPS.

As a product I actually predict it will completely fail, I just don't see families flocking to buy a product that's expensive and difficult to understand. It just won't work.

I'm not so sure. I think this will be a slow burner. This console generation probably has a good 3/4 years left in it. At least.

But the system has been out for ages and I don't think people really care for the 'Playstation' brand as much as they did. They would have had to be intrigued about it by now. I think the Wii was enough, as just one machine, to saturate the market for non-film family entertainment. Even if it isn't used much or if consumers only bought a couple of games for it, I think the general population will just see it as something that's already been done. I think that may be the same as Natal, and some will remember the Eyetoy and make the comparison. However I think Natal will be much more successful sales wise.

That's it for Pachter's bullshit, unjustified, non-factual predictions this week, please leave your comments about why I'm wrong in the segment below.

I don't really give a shit. All I know is there's more than enough for me to warrant a buy. Killzone 3, alone being a reason.

I agree, just saying. That and Resistance 3 hopefully. Any online shooter that takes my fancy, but overall those 2 would make me happy.
