Daft Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Just did an online race and found the track editor. The online was fun. Didn't seem like many people were online. There is a hub, like in Diddy Kong Racing where you access everything, career mode, online race, time trial etc. So it isn't really menu based, which I love. Also, the hub is linked online so I bumped into another racer while I was in it which was pretty cool. Also, all the electronic boards in the hub have up to date info. Also, I found the track editor and literally within 5 minutes I created an awesome track and had a race on it against 7 bots. It's a breeze to do. My one concern is the inability to edit the width of the track. Otherwise, I'm now officially excited for this.

Daft Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Took me 5 minutes to make a good track. It took me about a week to make a crap LBP level. There's even an auto complete option and an auto populate option (which puts items and stuff in). They couldn't have made it any easier.
MATtheHAT Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 GameSpots ModNation Racers Beta Giveaway available in about 45 minutes time.
flameboy Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 can't get one on gamespot, click the button and rather than doing it the page just refreshes...
dwarf Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Yeah I tried getting my friend one, same problem.
Emasher Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 It started doing that once they ran out of codes apparently. Anyway, I've got a spare theme code for anyone who can make a decent trade for it.
flameboy Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 my theme code doesn't even bloody work...what a shit day for codes! Although did download PixelJunk Shooter and its bloody amazing...
Hero-of-Time Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Outstanding! http://www.destructoid.com/gaming-icons-get-created-for-modnation-racers-158317.phtml
Daft Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Damn! That one's pretty good! I'm still really loving playing the beta. Only found out yesterday you could activate a shield at any time.

flameboy Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Snap this up quick it's limited to 100,000 downloads. Update - 82% downloaded nearly there WOOP WOOP WOOP! I am very surprised to find that they havn't all gone yet and so I've got one! Reminds me I should never come straight home from work and set about doing work for work, always check the internet first!
Caris Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hope they fix the technical issues in this, load times are a joke.
MATtheHAT Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Yeah they are far too long. Also, this kind of game should be running 60fps no problem. One of the quick race tracks chugs along at I would guess around 10. Also, the handling could do with a bit of fine-tuning. But thats what a beta is for I suppose, iron out any flaws before the final release.
Tyson Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Glad its not just me who thought that. Even when it finished loading it was slow, and it leaves you bringing up a thousand menus to figure out the controls.
flameboy Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 well my download finished late last night so not had chance yet, out tonight but will play it over the weekend.
ShavenWolf Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 DAMMIT!!! It's not on there anymore.... gutted.... I wanted to take part in ultra-long load times blended with some fun moddy-racing!
Stewilo2005 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Does anyone know if i'll still be able to download it? I went on last night and started to download it but couldn't finish it due to internet problems. It's still on my list for transactions in my PSN. The reason I ask now is, i'm in uni and cannot test this myself. Edited January 22, 2010 by Stewilo2005
Daft Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Yeh you will. Just go to your download history. If you started downloading it you've pretty much reserved your place.
Stewilo2005 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Woo xD, Now to wait till the end of this pointless day and get home to try it.
tapedeck Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hope they fix the technical issues in this, load times are a joke. QFT. And...with the track editor this is driving me mad: I've sculpted the landscape first then when you go to add the track it just randomly drops the racer just anywhere on the sculpted landscape. Sadly though it is ALWAYS in the water when I do it. So the racer just sinks to the bottom of the sea. Really effing frustrating. Especially when you've made a water world of sorts. Thus I have to build the track first and then edit the landscape around it. I'll have another go later and see if this is possible. Otherwise I actually like the game. Reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing rather than Mario Kart. Which is obviously good in my eyes. Still...hope there are tunnels/caves in the final version.
tapedeck Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I've thoroughly enjoyed the beta yet I'd love to see what the single player mode is like as the edit mode is actually quite shallow. Like say, LBP, would be nice to create your own items or structures.
