dwarf Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Hmm I doubt it because whilst they have the environments ready etc not all the time was spent by all the people making it on that section. For starters the scripts are massive, dialogue takes an age to record especially because there are different paths. I think it will have a bigger focus on just main missions than side missions.
Wesley Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Expect new information tomorrow! http://kotaku.com/5463684/there-shall-be-new-new-vegas-news-tomorrow-apparently Keep them peeled. Or just wait for Dante to post everything you lazy bums.
CoolFunkMan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Just searched google and found this: http://www.falloutnewvegas.com/ It's just a blank site atm, nothing on it. Hmmmm....
Shorty Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The domain is just owned by some domain squatting company that claims to "hold on to" your domains to "protect your brand" (and then sell it to you for 10x the cost it would've been). http://whois.domaintools.com/falloutnewvegas.com
Emasher Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-fallout-new/61575

Ah well... Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-fallout-new/61575 Not too much to go on, but it looks intruging, can't wait to see more!
Nolan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It's exactly like the Fallout 3 trailer actually. Which in itself is a little sad. Observant veterans of the series however should recognize the guy next to the flag. North California Republic (NCR), born out of Shady Sands/Vault 15 and basically went about taking over and policing California. They went as far as attacking other cities(Vault City/Vault 8 specifically) to get them to join the republic for "protection" (which is a sidequest you can solve). Seems after the Vault Dwellers Descendant removed the Enclave Californian presence the NCR kept on expanding into Nevada. Could make for a much more interesting game than Fallout 3, Reno was one of the most fleshed out places of Fallout 2 with all the quests between the 4 families controlling the city. I can see more of the same in New Vegas, especially with the added bonus of Obsidian having a fair few former Black Isle employees. I am wondering though, if you'll be a Vault Dweller or not. It would make the most sense for keeping with series tradition plus it would give the best position of working with the City and the NCR, but I can't help shake a niggling feeling that we may be NCR.
dwarf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Whilst it was a copy of the trailer, it was a copy of the best trailer ever, so I loved the predictability and actualisation of the head-turn of that character at the end. Man, I'm not ready for another Fallout seeing as I've just done pretty much everything in 3 recently. I look forward to the upcoming news.
Chris the great Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 well, tickle me pink, that fall 2010 relase is agreeable. best phone friends and colleges, let them know i wont be available from then until 2012.
dwarf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 For games, 2008 was pretty awesome, 2009 was fairly good too, but 2010 is an absolute monster. Exciting time to be alive I say!
Mundi Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I hope they have the city more playable than in Fallout 3. I wanted to walk around Washington DC, not crawl in the sewers... As excited as I am, I am holding back as it is being made by another developer: Obsidian Entertainment. They have made good RPGs before (KOTOR 2, NWN 2) so I'm not gonna be too sceptical
dwarf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I have an inkling that they will nail this. They probably realise the great bits about Fallout 3 and make it run a bit smoother, polish it a bit and throw their own take on it. It could be spectacular, and here's hoping.

They have made good RPGs before (KOTOR 2, NWN 2) so I'm not gonna be too sceptical Fallout 3 really dropped the ball on exploring cities, even oblivion did a better job despite the cities basically being clones. New Vegas however is presented as if it's a fully functional city, lighted skyscrapers and many modern looking buildings. I doubt sewers will be the main transport from building to building. Obsidian is a great developer with a pedigree just as good as Bethesda. I have an inkling that they will nail this. They probably realise the great bits about Fallout 3 and make it run a bit smoother, polish it a bit and throw their own take on it. It could be spectacular, and here's hoping. Don't count on the polish. Black Isle games use to release quite buggy, and Obsidian games have done the same. NWN2 was nearly unplayable at launch before the UI was patched.
Mundi Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Oh god, NWN2 was the worst release I have ever witnessed. I could not get the game to work for two days because I needed a new patch after a patch they released did nothing but make it worse.
Emasher Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 One of the interesting things is the fact that Vegas doesn't seem to look destroyed at all. This game is looking like it could be quite different from Fallout 3 in terms of style, which is a good thing I guess. I've always wondered how a Bethesda style game (yes, I know they're not developing it themselves, but I'm sure it will use the same system) would work in a more urban area.
dwarf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 That cowboy face going to replace the pip-boy appearance?

The real vegas probably got nuked. That cowboy face going to replace the pip-boy appearance? Doubtful.
dwarf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It'll probably be that central city surrounded by wasteland/cemetries as seen at the start of the trailer.
Emasher Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 They've re-built it fairly well then compared to the towns in Fallout 3.
Nolan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The west coast was certainly better off it seems than the east. San Francisco was fairly intact, the Hubologists were making a space ship, and there was an Oil Tanker that still worked and a working Oil Rig. There was also a working Power Plant and multiple GECKs some of which were put into use and made quite nice cities. New Reno was in fair condition as well, with nice working casinos. We also don't know how much more time has passed. It only took 80 years for Shady Sands to go from a little village terrorized by Raiders to become a very well put together society that was imprisoning raiders and had great technology. Who knows what New Vegas has accomplished in an unknown amount of time.
ViPeR Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Who's actually making this one. I keep hearing it's not the guys who did Fallout 3 but the ones who did the first 2 Fallouts? Yet it's still Bethesda isn't it?

Mundi Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 It is being made by some of the people that used to work at Interplay but it still lacking the key people of the first two.
Nolan Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Mundi got it. Obsidian Entertainment are working on New Vegas, they were formed shortly after Black Isle/Interplay were shut down. A few other members formed Troika Games before the shut down, but after 3 good games they were shut down. Obsidian does have a good number of the key Fallout members though. Bethesda is publishing though since they do own the rights to the series. So their name will be on the package regardless.
