Hero-of-Time Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Just read this snippet on GoNintendo. Looks like this sequel will be out pretty soon. Looks like a Reuters article has blown the lid off of the Boom Blox sequel. Check out the details below. - Steven Spielberg involved once again - entitled Boom Blox Bash Party - due out this Spring - more multiplayer options - more than 400 new levels - expect underwater, space, and other locations - online capabilities allow for download of new levels from EA, as well as levels user-created levels from other BBBP owners “‘Boom Blox Bash Party’ is a wild social gaming experience. We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original ‘Boom Blox’ together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with ‘Boom Blox Bash Party.’†- Steven Spielberg
D_prOdigy Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Great news. Surprised they've kept it so quiet if it's out in Spring though.
david.dakota Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Whats really interesting is that EA's contract with Speiberg was for 3 games, which as i recall were all announced. Does that mean one has been cancelled?
Ganepark32 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 No. The other one for the PS3/360 is still being worked on I believe. Nothing has been seen of it though. Think it's codenamed PRST or something like that.
Dante Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Bash Party specifically features 400 new levels set to new backdrops including underwater and outer space, both of which come to life with freshly added zero-gravity-based physics allowing objects to float after they are dislodged. There are new blox types such as the virus and conveyor as well as new shapes like the cylinder and wedge. And in addition to the play mechanics of the original, which allowed for throwing and grabbing, players will in Bash Party be able to sling and launch projectiles or, as EA puts it, "blow the competition away with the new cannon, paint ball and slingshot tools." The developer also promises an assortment of new blox characters that can be thrown about and intermixed into the puzzles. We always say that zero-gravity makes everything better. Now, Boom Blox reaps the benefit."In Boom Blox Bash Party we are taking the game elements to the extreme," said Amir Rahimi, senior producer. "In the original Boom Blox, we really focused on perfecting the game's physics so now we can push the boundaries of physics, offering exciting new challenges and completely new ways to play." One such new way is the title's additional team-based multiplayer mode in which sets of players can face off against each other in blox-ridden showdowns. Perhaps the most exciting component to the sequel -- other than the zero-gravity physics, of course, which we can't wait to try out for ourselves -- is the significantly enhanced WiiConnect24 option. Bash Party enables players to much more intuitively edit stages, handing them access "... to the same tool set the EA development team used to create each and every level in the game," according to the studio. Then, as the company adds, "with the press of a button, players will be able to grab, play and rate new levels from EA as well as levels created by members of the Boom Blox Bash Party community." Bashers will be able to directly share levels with EA or with friends.
jammy2211 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Oh for god sake, whenever I think of buying a Wii game the sequel is always announced before I get around to it. Same with DS, sigh. Looks cool though, gonna be living in a flat with some mates next year so I'll probably pick this up for multiplayer .
Deathborn Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Still have to buy the first one (yeah, I know. Amazing game, try it at a friend's house but I can't afford it for the moment because no job and not enough money to buy all I want)... I'll probably buy this one instead since it seems to be the same but better.
Retro_Link Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 (edited) Video Interview No Friends Codes! Created levels can be uploaded and distributed through EA! Edited March 19, 2009 by Retro_Link
darksnowman Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Cheers for the video, Retro. Looks and sounds like a worthy sequel. The slingshot has the potential to create mayhem... and I'm glad the guy being interviewed acknowledges that thats what we all love in Boom Blox... the mayhem.
D_prOdigy Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 IGN Review Closing CommentsBash Party is not a revolutionary sequel. This is still recognizably Boom Blox. However, it's as though EA injected the experience with a serious supply of steroids. A ridiculous amount of fantastic new levels complete with unique attributes like varying physics, great new blocks and tools, a remade presentation complemented by a robust achievements system, a Boom Bux currency to buy upgrades, and more. And, of course, the same throw-and-break mechanics that made the original so much fun are back in full. You'll be playing the title for months with friends. And the best part is, you could potentially be playing well into next year because of the superb editor and online integration. Wait until you see how easy it is to create and trade levels. If more developers took the time to approach Wii software this way, the online state of the console would be in a very different, altogether better place.
spirited away Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 "If you're one of those people whose little white box is gathering dust in the corner, don't put it on eBay. Pick up a copy of Boom Blox: Bash Party and remind yourself why you bought a Wii in the first place, and why games don't have to be about guns and cars to be good, and why Steven Spielberg should be forgiven for the Crystal Skull. Only if he promises never to do it again, mind." 9/10 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/boom-blox-bash-party-review?page=2 If anyone needed persuading...Eurogamer review up.
That Guy Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 If only I had money. Think I shall be getting it for my birthday in August instead.
dazzybee Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I really want this game, but I didn't finish the first. This is getting added to Little Kings Story and Klonoa for future purchases!
Helmsly Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) GiantBomb put up a great 'quick view' of the game: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-boom-blox-bash-party/17-704/ I hadn't really payed any attention to this game until now, but the guys in this video sound like they are having so much fun playing it I think I'll try and pick this game up Edited May 31, 2009 by Helmsly
Guest Maase Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Godamnit, I have to buy both the original and this one sooner or later. I can't believe I was crying over lack of games a year ago, I have 6 games I have yet to finish and a fuckload of Wii games that I want to buy too.
david.dakota Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I too approached this past year thinking there was little to buy... Overkill, Madworld, Animal Crossing, Disaster, de Blob, Deadly Creatures, Klonoa, Little Kings Story later, and i think the past 12 months was great to be a Wii gamer.
That Guy Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 My concern with this, is it gonna cut out the annoying crappy bits like shooting and all that kind of crap. The fun of Boom Blox was throwing stuff into other stuff and seeing what happened. I'm trying to finish the adventure of the first right now and it's getting completely shit. Not only that but to get to the adventure challenge I need to get silver in all the other ones...
markderoos Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Saw this in Media Markt last weekend. Anybody bought it yet? I'm not sure if I should buy it. I really liked the original, but want to know if the difference with the original are big enough to make it feel fresh. BTW: Title on the box was Boom Blox Smash Party... What happened to Bash Party???
Tellyn Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 After a quick Google, EA appear to be calling it Smash Party in Europe. MadDog and I saw it on Friday in GAME, fairly certain it was Bash Party. It's possible that it's still called Bash Party in the UK - do you live in a different European country?
markderoos Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Yep, The Netherlands, hence the crappy english Strange to have different names for the same game within Europe...
dazzybee Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I loved Boom Blox, but never played it because I was during my game buying frenzy (which I have now curbed and sold off)...I really want this game, but a bit of me wants to play through and appreciate the original a little first... Though this looks better in every way and would look forward to exchanging levels.... Very surprised more people on here haven't bought it!!
