Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I originally disliked Oxi's rants about meaning and lack thereof, but I think I'm beginning to understand it. Consider that a victory, Ox. :p I have an ambivalent relationship with LotR, both the films and books. As much as I love fantasy, I can't seem to get into LotR. I love the universe and its depth, immensiveness, attention to detail etc., but I can't seem to "get into" it. I've tried reading both The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, yet they don't capture me. I've seen the first two films, yet they don't entertain me. It's very strange, actually. Regarding films, I won't even begin to list the must-see films I haven't seen - I'd get scorched from the flaming. I'm terrible at getting around to watching films.
rokhed00 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Impressive is precisely the word I would choose if I asked me to describe LOTR in one word :P I'd use boring. The old animated version was quite good though.
EEVILMURRAY Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Just watched Santa Claus - The Movie, and one thing I always remembered as being kinda dodgy... When Patch's sleigh blows up, Santa says the only way is to do The Super Duper Looper [a pr0 move] to catch them when they fall. To do this he goes under them, and does a loop-de-loop, but taking it to the Super Duper Remix. Then catches them as he comes round again. But why doesn't he just catch them as he passes under them the first time, or asks them to jump.
Jonnas Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 @LotR:Honestly, I'm not too fond of it either, to be honest. Sure, it's massive, but, just like Dannyboy, I can't get into it. It certainly isn't because of Oxi's motives, even though I can understand him. @My sins regarding Star Wars: Yeah sure, I understand it's an impressive set of films. Someday I will watch them. I'm just not in a rush to do so.
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 He lost some fingers and "exploded". Come on EEVIL, I like your antics, but now you're just over simplifying. Firstly because by that time he'd already lost his physicall form and could only retain one as long as he was in possession of the ring (hence all the trouble he went through to get it back), and secondly because he didn't explode, he simply faded away. If there's one thing that Tolkien can't be criticized about, it's lack of cohesiveness in his tales... he's a master at work!

I'm cutting out the crap Tolkien wasted pages on [Elf Singing AAARGH] Although this doesn't seem to compare with Robert Jordan. But I shall admit one was wrong on one point. I foolishly assumed Sauron was still physical form at the time. He could've picked some more fetching clothes though. I couldn't find it on the Wiki page, but I'm sure I saw it somewhere, a picture of Sauron's mouth [the omnom nom kind] which was apparently in one of the extended editions, was this a flashback? Might've been the Wraith King, I forget.
Guest Maase Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Ahahahah, i expected exactly this: A 4Chan reaction chain lol But yes, i have yet to watch them, now that i bought a new computer, i might as well download them I'l start with the Original Saga of Star Wars, then Fight Club, then Matrix, then The Terminator, then LOTR Which means, i'l start with what sounds better and end with what sounds worse.
chairdriver Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Terminator is much better than both Fight Club and Matrix. Fight Club was nothing that special IMO. It has a lovely twist, but then not really...
Guest Maase Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Well, yeah, and the worse thing is that i already know the Twist :'(, which ruins 90% of the movie. Still, Fight Club sounds a lot better than The Terminator, specially knowing what the twist is
Eenuh Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I've actually never watched Fight Club and Terminator either (though I did get to see small parts of Terminator 2 in my sound effects class in film school). Guess I just never got around to it, or figured they weren't my type of film... *waits for Flinky to announce he'll make me watch them* =P

Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 The first Matrix is without doubt an amazing film. There are much debate about the sequels, but you'll have to make up your own mind about them. I personally love them.
Guest Maase Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Dannyboy-the-Dane, who are you talking with?
MoogleViper Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Dannyboy-the-Dane, who are you talking with? He's just voicing his thoughts/opinions. Something you do quite often.
Guest Maase Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Yes, but he did it in a weird way, as if he was talking with someone who deleted his post :S Am i like that too?
MoogleViper Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Am i like that too? You just talk, constantly. By talk I mean type obviously before anybody decides to be smart.
Fierce_LiNk Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I've actually never watched Fight Club and Terminator either (though I did get to see small parts of Terminator 2 in my sound effects class in film school).Guess I just never got around to it, or figured they weren't my type of film... *waits for Flinky to announce he'll make me watch them* =P Haha, you knew it was coming! Although, you're slowly starting to feeeel the Arnie love. You loved Kindergarten Cop, admit eet! Admit eet naaaaw! Also, your Do Eeet Naaaw is hilarious. But yeah, watch them, although I'm not sure how you'll react to them, especially the first Terminator. It's got such an 80's look about it, and is just the ultimate thriller. *waits for you to do the dance*
Guest Maase Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 You just talk, constantly.By talk I mean type obviously before anybody decides to be smart. Ahahah, they told me that a lot. Oh well, guess i'l have to live with it
Paj! Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 It's not as good :awesome: Quoted so you get that into your head. --- My Top Ten Films (subject to change) 1. Dancer In The Dark 2. Alien 3. Blade Runner 4. Terminator 5. Eraserhead 6. The Dark Knight 7. There Will Be Blood 8. Hard Candy 9. All About My Mother 10. Technically Kes, but I'll put Batman Returns.
chairdriver Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 My Lord and Lady! I totally forgot about Hard Candy! Literally a lovely film. Wall.E and Aliens are also on my list, but not top 10.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Dannyboy-the-Dane, who are you talking with? Well, my post was mainly aimed at you, but since it stands very well on its own and is generally relevant to the subject at hand, I decided not to quote anyone. Plus I was too lazy. :p
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Fight Club is the best out of the whole lot, Maase, but you won't fully understand it yet, I'd reckon.
