RedShell Posted April 17, 2010 Share Posted April 17, 2010 Why is it that a specialist shop, such as GAME, can't get new releases in stock and keep the shelves filled with them when a company such as HMV can?It's crazy huh? I can't actually remember the last time I went to a GAME store, they've been that bad for such a long time now. And while you're right that HMV are much better with new releases, their prices tend to be a bit OTT for my liking. When we had the Silent Hill launch fiasco I went to HMV on the Friday and sure enough they had it in stock, but for £40! I just ordered it online from Zavvi for over 15 quid less. I know buying online isn't always ideal, what with the risk of stuff getting lost in the post and obviously not being able to trade-in games etc... But when the difference in price is soooo immense, I think it's pretty pointless going to game shops these days. Then again, I still remember the good old days of going to John Menzies and buying C64 games for like 99p! So maybe that has something to do with it too. As you said, you save around a tenner per game and you usually get it a day early! The whole fiasco with GAME and their stock of Wii games is beyond a joke now though. I went into one the other day and like you say it was full of absolutely crap casual titles! 1 racks of top 10, 1 racks of absolute bollocks, and like 2 racks of GAME's Trade In bullshit! I haven't bought a game in store for an absolute age now! Online (with the awesomeness of Shopto, and the constant sales on play, hmv, zavvi etc...) is the only way to go! It's not a megastore, but its game section is lovely and robust, and there are tonnes of Wii and DS content there, and they're pretty savvy with the sales, too. For example Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World didn't even come in stock at either of the GAME stores in my town, but HMV had several copies and sold out. Nice idea regarding the buying, refunding and then buying it back, will have to remember that one. Its a bit hard to see if there is going to be a demand for the game when they aren't going to stock it in the first place. They haven't had Sakura Wars in since it launched ( both stores ) yet Gamestation, which is just around the corner and owned by GAME, had the title in stock. I was only about 20 and confused as even though I held sound retail experience, a customer service level 3 NVQ and a passion for gaming and wrote online for a gaming website I still wasn't what they were looking for. Then I kept seeing the shy or (unfortunately) sweaty staff amongst a seemingly obsessed love for gothically fashioned girls that they kept hiring and realised it was a company that was clearly messed up from the inside. I wasn't bitter in the end, glad I wasn't accepted tbh. Now I get college kids who have an interest in IT and retail saying they want jobs on the highstreet with companies like GAME and I have to pretend they are professional and will accept them on their qualities and qualifications whereas I'm really not sure if that's even a possibility in that company... /rant. That's one of the sidequests most leave until mid-way so wait until you've reached around level 40-45 to go back and take it down. Also you might want to improve your NVQ level a bit so that you're party have more defensive abilities. If you grind for a few hours in your local town and take down some regular chavs or sainsburys customer service then you should get there in no time. Hope that helps. Your inventive scenario is potentially right. The only way I've seen some level 20 players in GAME/Gamestation is if they have been groomed/recruited by a Level 40 player. I won't even go there. I've heard some people claim they don't hire the 'OTT' staff who clearly want to be there, because they use it for the discount/freebies. Besides, its not a place to work if you have a passion for gaming. You'll become used to selling Catz over Kingdom Hearts and having to flog add-ons that are worth shit. Plus, you get a constant barrage of customers who seem to think you're there to listen to them talk about why they think the PS3 is better than the Xbox or vice versa, or tell you all about how top of the range their PC is. They speak another language it seems and working with these clearly 'big headed and opinionated' morons would do my head in! They clearly employed young staff to pay em less and girls! Thing which makes me laugh is I asked for Metroid Trilogy and the man went looking in the PS3 section...says it all really! also, job cuts and lowering hours and the closure of two stores here eventually means I may have had to leave anyway!
