Daft Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Anyone getting this? I want to pick it up for the PS3. Looks awesome. Anyone know what the reviews are like for the console versions?
Mundi Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I didn't care much for it, found Far Cry 1 to be boring but after reading some reviews I am giving some thought about getting it.
dwarf Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 It looks awesome but I think Resistance and Killzone will be enough for my FPS needs, if not I may pick it up. Why isn't there a Fallout 3 thread?
Chuck Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Im gonna go ahead and say this looks as good as Crysis.
Daft Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 Why isn't there a Fallout 3 thread? Just fixed that. Personally I'm not that impressed by Resistance 2 so far although the beta might change that. I've never played the first Far Cry. Is this a direct sequel? Do I have to have played the first? http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=264329 Eurogamer gave it 8/10. The review reads worse tbh. I'm going to rent it.
Chris the great Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 its top of my xmas list, all the reviews ive seen have been great, and i really am all about the the open ended atm. not sure who reviewed the game, but it got 9/10 on gamesradar. ps3 for me, very excited. i want desperate battles involving guns that pack in, cars the break down and machettes to the face of my enemys. im also excited about far cry 2.
Dan_Dare Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 This isn't a sequel, Daft. I'd recommend you take a crack at the original though. The first few levels at least. Some really great game there. Just...goes to shit later on.
Solo Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I read the PC Gamer review, they gave it 94% (and they gave Crysis Warzone only 60%!) and pretty much said it was frikkin' amazing. I will pick this up on the 360 in due time.

Chris the great Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 The original Far Cry was made Crytek who went on to make Crysis. This is by Ubisoft. They also made Far Cry Instincts. leave ubi soft alone, they have realeased some utterly awsome games. granted, they realease some shite, but given the good reviews, and geberal high opinions of far cry 2, it seems this fits snuggly into the former catagory.
Gizmo Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Just read the Edge review of this. They seemed to be criticising it most of the review, but still gave it an 8.
Cube Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Just read the Edge review of this. They seemed to be criticising it most of the review, but still gave it an 8. Sounds just like their MGS4 review.
Chris the great Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 i wanted to buy edge today, wasnt at out WHSmisths. fucking mag never seems to be out on time
Deathjam Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Ubisoft are great but opinions of Far Cry 2 are not exactly positive right now. Shouldnt that be the other way round?
Chris the great Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Why not subscribe? i have -£149.54 to my name. a subscription would be nice but its not happening till i get a job.
Chris the great Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Well i do get the impression Ubisoft spend more time on presentation than the actual game. People are not impressed with the gameplay of FC2 though. total opposite impression to what ive been reading. very interesting. i had read that the start seems very harsh buts teaching the open ended nature. perhaps people who got a bad impression were using a different play style? i guess when somthings so open theres a good way and a bad way to do it. look at hitman 2, you could just kill everything with eyes, or could stalk your pray quietly. i guess this may be a similar case.
Chris the great Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 well, its current meta critic score is 87 for critics, 8.7 for reviewers, so i'm going to assume its a very good game. plus, edge gave it an 8 and i tend to agree with most of what they say.
Gizmo Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Mmm. Is there gonna be a demo of this at any point? The mixed reactions to this are inclining me away from buying it, theres so many as is that I might leave it for awhile.
Solo Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 No Ubisoft said due to the scope of the game a demo isn't possible. I would just ignore the negativity and go for it, if you're a fan of FPS there has to be something in it for you. If it turns out not to be your thing then refund it or trade it in, no biggy.
Solo Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I say be skeptcal. There better games out there like LBP. u wot. That's a completely different kind of game.
dwarf Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hehe, I reckon Resistance 2 will be much better, just going from the demo. It is addictive.
Cookyman Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I'll give this game a miss I think Oh dear! As we know Sony are always bigging up their PS3, saying that it is the only “true†HD console. Well it seems that with the release of Far Cry 2, it has giving them a swift kick in the behind, as the game is hampered with a number of issues. Gamers have been complaining that the game has widescreen issues, and the 3.5GB install is also not going down well with PlayStation 3 owners. Reviewers have said that the PS3 version fall’s shorts of the Xbox 360 version. The problem is the PS3 of Far Cry 2 only supports 720p, while the Xbox 360 version offers full 1080p support. Ripten has put the blame on the developer, saying that they are lazy and stupid, and that it is not the fault of the Sony PS3.
