Dyson Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Finally! Details! On a Bungie Halo title! The Halo 3 singleplayer expansion - first revealed in a trailer a few weeks back - now has a setting and a rough release date. The expansion will serve as a prequel to the events of Halo 3, with the player taking the role of a UNSC recon soldier, who is our "new hero" for a "new campaign". The expansion will be out in "Fall 2009", with screenshots and video expected sometime soon. http://kotaku.com/5060880/halo-3-expansion-hits-fall-2009 Awesome, I loved the campaign in Halo 3. Looking forward to this, I wonder if they'll expand on the multiplayer? Edit: Here's the trailer shown during the keynote. I love it, looks beautiful though it's obviously not in-game. http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=ournextgame
Ganepark32 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I read that it'll be out in Spring 2009 elsewhere on the interweb. edit: just saw the trailer just now and it does indeed say fall 2009. Seems the first website I read about this on was completely wrong.
Guest Jordan Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 It was a guess, due to a date within the trailer. Still, very cool. I like the trailer.
Dan_Dare Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 yeah it's a sweet trailer. I hope they make the ODST less of a tank than the chief.
Solo Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Yeah also perhaps make him more agile, adding a sprint or making jumping less anti-grav. Or maybe things like vaulting over objects or get this... GOING PRONE. (Yeah I just love CoD)
Guest Jordan Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 It suprised me that this wasn't DLC to be honest! We shall see.. *rubs hands*.
S.C.G Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 ^^^ yeah I thought this was gonna be DLC too tbh, I'm sure there was something about Halo 3 dlc recently though I could be comfusing it with something else.
Caris Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I take it this will have to use the same engine and graphics as Halo 3 with it being an expansion yes? I wish they would tune up the graphics the jaggys still do my head in.
S.C.G Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hmm it must be a pretty big expansion if it has to go on disc and not DLC... maybe it will use the Halo 3 disc in some way what with the ability to rip games to HDD coming in about a month now, or maybe the single player story will be completely standalone but will come with files that enhance Halo 3's existing multiplayer? Either way it should be good when it's finished, and seconded on the jaggies, they should invest extra time ironing them out as they really should be minimal to non-existent in this day and age. :/
Cube Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 This good be pretty good. I'll likely get it if it's £20 when it's released. (also, can someone fix the thread title, please?)
gaggle64 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I'm not sure how much I want this. The Halo 3 campaign was not a uniformly pleasurable experience, like learning to drive or pegging.
Dyson Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 I wish they would tune up the graphics the jaggys still do my head in. Tighten up the graphics on Halo 3?
Hellfire Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Oh for fuck's suck a CGI trailer? Ugh. It's cool though ^^ I'm pumped, I really like Halo3 campaign and I don't really play online that much as I never see anyone from n-e online and I dislike playing FPS "competitvely" with analog, so I can't wait \o\ No flood please
Climhazzard Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 its looking good, also will have new maps for multiplayer when it comes along so its all good.
S.C.G Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 \o\ No flood please Wishful thinking but you know it's gonna happen... Oh yes there will be flood. (even if no one wants it )
Calza Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 I don't see how they can be flood since the flood only came to earth in Halo 3 when the portal to the ark was opened. Then again Ensemble have managed to fit the flood in 20 years before they are supposed to be around.
Tellyn Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 So it's going to be out in a year? They could have announced it at E3 in that case...
Dante Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 So it's going to be out in a year? They could have announced it at E3 in that case... Mircosoft did block the countdown news on the Bungie site near the end of E3.
Tellyn Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Mircosoft did block the countdown news on the Bungie site near the end of E3. I meant E3 2009.
D_prOdigy Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 So it's going to be out in a year? They could have announced it at E3 in that case... Bungie are the masters of viral marketing and hype. It's a fucking annoying, insistant and self-indulgent style of marketing, but it gets the right people fapping. So they've probably pulled a master stroke by announcing it now.
Black Diamond Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Looks pretty cool, although I hope it doesn't try to go all out Metal Gear.

It's a fucking annoying, insistant and self-indulgent style of marketing, but it gets the right people fapping. So they've probably pulled a master stroke by announcing it now. The only thing that "annoys" me (it doesn't really) is that this "keep it clean" viral marketing always gave me the impression they were working on something new, when it's Halo after all. Or maybe it was something new, but they got pulled in :P
D_prOdigy Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Halo 3: Recon, now with shit name as a non-option! http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/933/933699p1.html
McPhee Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 It suprised me that this wasn't DLC to be honest! We shall see.. *rubs hands*. On disk they can push it as a big Christmas title for 2009. It also means they don't have to worry about getting copies of Halo 3 back in to people's hands 2 years after release. I was quite suprised as well, but when i thought about it it started to seem like a sensible move.
