Dante Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 From Neogaf - There is no detailed report on Reginleiv yet, but he will put one up later tonight. He mentions the game supports both Motion+ as well as the classic controller and that it is a surprisingly violent game. You can target the heads and limbs of enemies in the game, and slice off both heads and limbs complete with blood effects. It definitely earns the CERO D rating. The setting of the game is an EDF style action game pitting young deities against a race of giants. The free online play is for co-op, and supports up to 4 players. There will be weapon customization, featuring over 300 different weapons. Hmm the game must have change alot since it was first shown.
Nolan Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 The setting of the game is an EDF style action game My main reason for wanting this so bad. Gah, imagine if EDF had online co-op.
D_prOdigy Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Why do people always reference EDF with this? I thought GDF was ultimately regarded as the better game?
Nolan Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Only EDF came to the states, so that's why for me.
mcj metroid Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 looks lame.. cmon this is what was done in the early days of the wii with that samuri slash game and that final fantasy one.. They didn't fair very well and i'm not sure if motionplus will help....

James McGeachie Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 This title and Cosmic Walker are kind of reminding me of the scenario with Project H.A.M.M.E.R and Disaster. Interesting games that stood out of a big montage trailer...then disappear off the face of the earth for ages after that.
Emasher Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Except this is actually getting released, while project HAMMER was canned.
mcj metroid Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) You seen the latest build then? Im giving the impressions based on the fact this has been done before in the early days of the wii and it didn't really work.. They're basically light-gun games with a waggle instead of a button. Now granted that's what they WERE. This could very well turn out better if motionplus is in use properly. This title and Cosmic Walker are kind of reminding me of the scenario with Project H.A.M.M.E.R and Disaster. Interesting games that stood out of a big montage trailer...then disappear off the face of the earth for ages after that. disaster should have been a classic unfortunetly well it's published by nintendo and isn't made by nintendo..... Most of those titles are send out to die.. disaster, fatal frame(didnt even come out here) unfortunetly Edited December 23, 2009 by mcj metroid Automerged Doublepost
Grazza Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I was looking forward to this, but it sounds too violent and bloody. It's a shame, as I won't buy it now.
Dante Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 New information: - Two playable characters: Freyr and Freyja. They're siblings in the game, which is based on Norse mythology and Ragnarok. - Freyr uses melee weapons like swords, spears, hammers, etc. Freyja uses range weapons like bows and magic. The 300+ wepaons available in the game are separated between the two characters. It's totally like EDF2. - You are allowed to bring 3 weapons into each mission. When you defeat enemies, you gain mana. You use mana to "create" new weapons using alchemy. I suppose it's easier to just think of mana as currency, and new weapons as stuff you development along weapon trees available for each character. - There are NPCs in various missions, like villagers running for safety, or other soldiers fighting alongside you. Similar to how it was in EDF2 and EDF3 I suppose. - The game is normally running at 30fps, but like all Sandlot games, the framerate is "variable". It can climb up to 60fps, or dip to below 20fps. Apparently the game is programmed to take these framerate drops into account so it won't hinder the actual controls in the game. - There are 5 difficulty settings for each mission, like in EDF. Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard and Inferno. - For range weapons, Freyja uses homing and lock-on to fire her arrows. From what he says, it sounds like how ZoE and Panzer Dragoon handles it. A bow at lvl1 can apparently lock on to 4-6 targets at once, but the number increases with higher level weapons. When you use magic, it consumes MP, which you regenerate by defeating enemies. Not sure if MP is the same as Mana.
Dante Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) Earth Defense Force + Oblivion. Edited November 18, 2009 by Dante
Dante Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 1UP information - It supports Wii Motion Plus, one of the few straight-on action games to do so as of right now. - It's developed by Sandlot -- the folks behind Earth Defense Force 2017, arguably the strangest (and, yet, strangely addictive) title in the Xbox 360's library. - The story, heavily influenced by Norse mythology, paints Asgard gods Freyr and Freya cooperating with mortals in their war against a race of giants attacking a village to the north -- the first skirmish in what will ultimately escalate into Ragnarok itself. - [Wrong information from 1up] Point the Wiimote at the screen and slash (i.e. draw lines) to attack. The game's on the bloody side, and Freyr can hack arms and legs off enemies. - Freyr is best with melee weapons while Freya is more of a sorceress. Between the two characters, you can wield over 300 different weapons, from swords and bows to warhammers and javelins.
Emasher Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Is this on rails, or free roaming? Not that it makes much difference in this sort of game for the most part.
Dante Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) HQ scans: Is this on rails, or free roaming? Not that it makes much difference in this sort of game for the most part. 1Up ignored the rader system in the screens and the control setup can be wii-mote motion plus or classic controller. It is a 3rd person action game. Edited December 4, 2009 by Dante
marcel Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) First Trailer: trailer looks really promissing. Edited December 22, 2009 by Retro_Link Embedded
Retro_Link Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 Definately something different! Is this gonna make it out of Japan though?
marcel Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Definately something different! Is this gonna make it out of Japan though? tnx for emmbeding. Ontopic: i really hope it will, the wii is lacking core titles and from the look of it this a core title. I think it will be released in europe, and reggie is going to decide if america gets it. A list of games released in europe/japan that didnt see the light of day in america (or europe). 1. Disaster day of crisis (only europe/japan, reggie thinks it had bad sound what about all those crappy third party shovelware titles reggie?) 2. Another code R (only europe/japan, no reason why) 3. Fatal frame 4 (only japan, was cancelled for europe/america because of bad controls).
darksnowman Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Good to see a trailer. If and when Dynamic Slash does make it out of Japan, let's hope it doesn't do an Excitebots on us.
mr_bogus Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Once every month or so, having the Homebrew Channel is justified.
