Guest Maase Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wanted its a summer flick, FFS Its supposed to be impossible and over the top, but totally badass, and it does it very well. Sure, Loom of Doom is stupid, and so are curving bullets, big snippers, keyboards and letters uniting to form "Fuck You", car chases in wich cars roll through the other car, etc. Matrix had the same style, Die Hard has the same style, so why the hell is Wanted considered different? Edit: Bottom line is: Wanted is entertaining, and guys have to stop debating if its possible or not, because its clearly impoossible.
Shino Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Seriously? LOL at them. @Oxi_Waste: I stand by the statement that the existence of magic is as perfectly acceptable as the existence of curving bullets. Just look around the internet, there's a lot of people asking if its possible.
Dante Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 In the graphic novel they're all super villains. Yeah but it only copied the start of the film and end of the film.
ReZourceman Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Yeah but it only copied the start of the film and end of the film. I wouldn't really say so. Its the same basic premise, and the dialogue is similar, but thats about it. TBH I think the films amazing, and the novel is okay/pretty good.
Dante Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 It was okay film but it was abit odd only having one person showing super powers at the start.

Matrix is set inside a computer program and Die Hard never had any such bullshit. Bottom line is: entertaining or not, it still sucks huge ass.

Guest Maase Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Oxygen_Waste, do you know what a Movie is suppose to do?.. ... ... Yeah, that's right: Entertain
Oxigen_Waste Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Oxygen_Waste, do you know what a Movie is suppose to do?.. ... ... Yeah, that's right: Entertain No, shit-for-brains, cinema is art, from it's inception, it's been art. And it's art keeps getting slaughtered for the sake of... herm "entertainment", because instead of focusing on something that matters, the films you (the masses, that is) like are pointless drivel designed to sell, in other words, prostitution. Open your fucking eyes and just wake up already. Seriously, you're wasting the little time you have left on arbitrary randomness.

Charlie Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I so don't understand you sometimes. It's quite simple really, its like 300, it might've been entertaining but it was a shit film with a joke of a plot, a cheesy ending with the guy throwing the spear and incredibly unbelievable when you're meant to think it could've actually happened. All in all, it might've been a little bit entertaining, it's still a shit film.
ReZourceman Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I dont agree with that train of thought personally.
Oxigen_Waste Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 So....your favourite films haven't entertained you? Of course they do, but apart from entertaining me, they provoke, inspire and amaze me. Wanted keeps me busy, There Will Be Blood (which is the last truly fantastic arthouse picture that I've seen) provokes my thought, inspires me to change my life, amazes me with it's raw emotion, it takes me away on a stellar voyage through the garden of greed and ambition, this is a film that builds character, is important, meaningful, insightful and passionate, as well as entertaining. This has substance... on the other hand, Wanted... entertains, and is cool to look at, but hollow and meaningless. I'd compare it to pornography... sure, it's fun, but in the end what do you walk away with? Meaningless fun, a light-hearted tale of impressively shallow substance. As for 300, it's way superior to wanted, but that was a somewhat valid point.

All in all, it might've been a little bit entertaining, it's still a shit film. you know 300 was based (all be it very loosly) on real historical events right? i think theres different aims for different films. some films, as oxigen_ waste rightly said, inspire you, change how you think, these are the truly great film, films that will carry a specail meaning. unfortunatly, this is lost on a lot of people, and somtimes, i do want to have my brains racked by deep meaning, or compex emotional interchanges, sometimes i just wanna see shit get blown up. thse films are the popcorn flicks, the ones that may not have any deep pretences of higher meaning or outher levels. there just there to entertain you. maybe it isnt right to compair these two geners of film, but its certainly no fair to critticise a popcorn fick for not making you think. i shall end with a quote from charllie brooker on this. "its like criticising ballet for not making you fart, it never ment too."
ReZourceman Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 sometimes i just wanna see shit get blown up. For sure.
Jonnas Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Well, I was going to add something to the discussion, but Chris beat me to it. A summer flick is a summer flick. Isn't that what Maase kept repeating?
Guest Maase Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Exactly, did anyone seriously expect Wanted to be as deep as There Will Be Blood? When i see "Wanted" "Iron Man" "The Dark Knight", i expect them to be mindless fun, nothing else (wich is kinda ironic, because The Dark Knight is one of the most deep movies from this year, but i didn't expect that)

"its like criticising ballet for not making you fart, it never ment too." Completely false... because good Popcorn makes you think and is meaningful while it blows stuff up. Seriously, take Iron Man, just like Maase said, it's completely Popcorn, awesome to watch and it still manages to be a meaningful experience, thus out-ranking Wanted in every way possible, therefore, Wanted's existence is proven useless, as there's GOOD mindless fun floating around out there... Take Indy 1 & 3, The Matrix, Aliens, Batman Begins & TDK, X-Men 2, Die Hard, Bourne Ultimatum, and the list fucking goes on and on and on... this is Exceptional "Blow stuff up" Popcorn that is meaningful and insightful, so when you ask me to accept a weaker effort because it was never meant to be meaningful, I just spit in your fucking face for showing such ignorance towards the history of cinema, as it was ALWAYS meant to be meaningful... you've just been born in a generation that's too undemanding and conformist to actually give a rats ass, and so you settle for what little fullfillment you get. I applaude thy effort, but it's a futile one. Now, if you reply telling me that you don't want them to be meaningful while blowing stuff up, then that's a different matter, because I cannot understand why someone would choose to indulge in such a pathetic waste of time, but maybe that's just me... is it abnormal of me to reject futile and worthless retard-aimed crap? Exactly, did anyone seriously expect Wanted to be as deep as There Will Be Blood? When i see "Wanted" "Iron Man" "The Dark Knight", i expect them to be mindless fun, nothing else (wich is kinda ironic, because The Dark Knight is one of the most deep movies from this year, but i didn't expect that) Shut the fuck up and read what I just said to Chris.
Chris the great Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 ok, seriosuly, oxigen, did you have a bad experience with movies not thaving a meaning? it must have been real bad, cos your going mental. everything you say is, in a fashion accurate. ok, these mindless films are dumbing down on a huge scale, hell, the whole serise of fast and the furious films are like two fingers in the face of every tallented film writter in the world. but you know what? if you dont like em no ones forcing you to watch em. i didnt like wanted, but i dont dispute its right to exist in the cinema. some people like it, see the meaning in it as an anti establishment, fuck you office worker peice. and to be franc, id rather watch somthing devoid of any meaning, over there will be blood, for as technoically good as that film was, i found it a little bit boring and ever so slightly pretentious. at least die hard 4.0 didnt have me nodding off.
Mr_Odwin Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Shut the fuck up and read what I just said to Chris. Red infraction issued for repeatedly being offensive.
Cube Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Indy 1 & 3, Aliens, Die Hard, Are some films that are good because they're mindless and have fun, meaningless plots that aren't really insightful. Like Wanted. Also, Wanted is better than Iron Man in every way.
Guest Maase Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Shut the fuck up and read what I just said to Chris. That was really unecessary (bad spelling, problably)
Chris the great Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 That was really unecessary (bad spelling, problably) in fairness, he got called up on it already. plus, its not the most offenceive thing hes said right?
Chris the great Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Well, to me, it was :\ ... i was going to post some type of smilie that offered a hug but cant find one. would you like a hug?
