sagat Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Sci is losing money fast and is nly delaying the inevitable; i reckon she will be gone by this time next year: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/investing-and-markets/article.html?in_article_id=431501&in_page_id=3 A sad day for the gaming industry on a whole
ReZourceman Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Surely someone will buy the rights. Probably EA.
Cube Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 *Waits for EA to scoop up the developers and licenses*
blender Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 its a good thing if she gets sold... developers will always invest in their investments
Aimless Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider games have — rightfully — done rather well in terms of both reviews and sales. I can't see Underworld failing, in fact I expect it to top the two previous titles seeing as it's the first 'proper' 360/PS3 title. SCi might die, but Lara Croft is too valuable a property to be left to rot. Even my parents know who she is; you can't buy that kind of recognition.
Intensity Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Tomb Raider Legend was brilliant. That King Arthur Tomb level in particular was very very well done - atmospheric as hell.
Dan_Dare Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 they're cool games- except the gash boss fights (seriously, why!?) so I can't see the next being a flop at all.
Charlie Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 No chance the Tomb Raider will die, as people have said the developers might fold, but someone will wave some money in their faces for the franchise. It's too valuable.
Jimbob Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 No chance the Tomb Raider will die, as people have said the developers might fold, but someone will wave some money in their faces for the franchise. It's too valuable. Agreed, and it will most likely be EA or possibly Ubisoft. Wonder what EA would do if they got their mits on the Tomb Raider license, repetitive sequel after sequel and she would feature in sports titles as well most likely.
Shorty Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 If they remade Tomb Raider II, I would buy the super special ultimate edition with limited figurine and spartan helmet. I loved that game. What they've done has been a great improvement on an engine that got very tired in later TR previous-generation titles. People (myself included) often get blinded by these improvements and trick themselves into thinking it's enough to make the games great. It's not. They're not bad, they're just not amazing.... They need something much fresher to get me interested (yes, I realise the hypocrasy after I just cried for a TRII remake) - and they need to either go back to some flippin' tombs, or get rid of the name "tomb raider".
Columnar Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Totally agree with what most people have said - there is no way that either Lara or the Tomb Raider franchise will go under with SCi. After Mario and Sonic, Lara Croft is the most famous video game character in the world (from the general public's opinion anyway). I just hope whoever does 'buy Lara' as it were won't wreck the good work Crystal Dynamics have done in re-inventing her.
Daft Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 SCi might die, but Lara Croft is too valuable a property to be left to rot. Even my parents know who she is; you can't buy that kind of recognition. What Aimless said. I can't wait for Underworld. One of my most anticipated games of the year. I was late to the whole TR thing. Legends was the first one I played properly and to the end and I loved it.
Razz Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 The end of Lara Croft? Eidos's only truly successful franchise? Not in the near future, no.
flameboy Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Not a chance she will die out. If the turok license (one past its sell by date and in need of revival) can be picked up after Acclaim went bust then somebody is bound to pick up Miss Croft.
