Retro_Link Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I hope it's wet on race day. F1 becomes so much more exciting when there's rain about. Strategies become even more critical and it becomes a lot more about driver skill than how good your car is. Unless you're Ferrari, who seem to have built a car so rediculously dependant on temperatures, that it's undrivable if conditions aren't within their small window of margin! The 2007 Ferrari seemed to be able to cope far better, and it's something that needs to be put right for next year. EDIT: Though hopefully '09 will be a hot season, as the '08 car is sublime in the heat!
gaggle64 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Rain in Monza? Dare we dream?I don't think there's been a wet weather race there since... ever. At least not in my lifetime.
Retro_Link Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Rain in Monza? Dare we dream?I don't think there's been a wet weather race there since... ever. At least not in my lifetime.I know! I can't remember one either! It's well worth watching the Free Practice 1 highlights to see what we could have in store! Exciting prospect!
Emerald Emblem Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Vettel on Pole followed by Kovalienen and Webber 3rd. Hamilton 15th, Raikonen 14th and Massa 6th, who saw that coming? http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2008/800/6561/
gaggle64 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 That was ke-rackers, as my old man used to say. Tenner says less then half the field makes out of the first chicane. Which half remains to be seen.
MadDog Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Kovalainen to win tomorrow, cant see Vetel having race pace, only if it chucks it down again, then he will have a chance.
Goron_3 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Kovalainen to win tomorrow, cant see Vetel having race pace, only if it chucks it down again, then he will have a chance. Probably yeah but tbh Kovalainen has been horrendously slow all season... Massa looks like he's going to have a great race; aslong as it goes well for him he should be leading the title hunt
Retro_Link Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Probably yeah but tbh Kovalainen has been horrendously slow all season...Not forgetting he was on pole at Silverstone in the wet and just fell away during the race!
gaggle64 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I think Kovalainen is like that guy in Kung Fu Hustle- One day he'll get beaten so bad it finally unlocks his full, divine potential, and then he'll be able to win every race just by running around the circuit shirtless.
Retro_Link Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I think Kovalainen is like that guy in Kung Fu Hustle- One day he'll get beaten so bad it finally unlocks his full, divine potential, and then he'll be able to win every race just by running around the circuit shirtless.I really like Heikki, but I just don't know if he has what it takes to be a World Champion. Just havn't seen that phenomenal drive from him yet or that ruthless determinism.
Gizmo Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Missed the qualifying as I was helping my sister move into her Uni accomodation. Sounds like I missed a corker. I've always liked Vettel since he came into F1, and Toro Rosso are really having a great year. The winner could be anyone; Kimi and Lewis so far back, Massa unstable in the wet, Heikki not on great form. And of course it's Monza. Can't wait.
Jon Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Probably yeah but tbh Kovalainen has been horrendously slow all season... Massa looks like he's going to have a great race; aslong as it goes well for him he should be leading the title hunt It's actaully pretty ironic, because Heikki has consistently had the fastest car when it comes to speed, check the graphic tomorrow during the race, he's usually right at the top.
Noodleman Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 The reason Heiki looks slower than Lewis is because in every single qualifying session before today he has been fueled 3 laps longer than Lewis.
MadDog Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Heikki actually beats him sometimes in qualifying, and on 1 flying lap hes among the quickest easily. But races are not 1 lap long. And he has been terribly unlucky alot of the time
Emerald Emblem Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 How many cars will still be in the race after the first chicane if it's wet do you think? I think at least 17
MadDog Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 id say about 5 will crash out :P then another few on the next lap, Will be fun either way :)
Emerald Emblem Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 If someone loses it under breaking we could have quite the mess.
Goron_3 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 The reason Heiki looks slower than Lewis is because in every single qualifying session before today he has been fueled 3 laps longer than Lewis. Yeah but his race pace isn't particularly good. Kimi fuels longer and when the car is set up right he's lightning quick (doesn't help on tracks like Hungaroring and Valencia though!).
gaggle64 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Heikki doesn't have the kind of natural aggression that Lewis or Kimi has. It's not hard to see why McLaren are holding onto him - he's incredibly skilled, but they've got unlock that need to constantly attack and push every corner and every overtake. Silverstone was a prime example - he dawdled just a little too long behind Kimi's struggling Ferrari and ended up being leap-frogged by Heidfeld.
tomma1000 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 looks like it may be wet weather today looking at the forecast.... hopefully the safety car wont be needed at the start
gaggle64 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Things were a little damp in the GP2 sprint race this morning but nothing serious. I'm expecting managing wet and dry spells to be the big challenge for many in the race.
tomma1000 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 could be intersting then with changeable conditions...
Emerald Emblem Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Vettel is an unlikely but very worthy winner, lead throughout. It should have been Kovalienens time to show his stuff but no dice.
Goron_3 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Well done Vettel; he would do great things at Ferrari imo. Shame we have Kimi for another season tbh haha. Little bit disappointed in Massa today, he could have done better. I just can't believe we've left europe with Lewis leading the title race. Nice to see Brundle comment on some of Lewis's decisions today (what he did to Glock and Webber). Strange he didn't get penalised really.
BeerMonkey Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 congrats to vettel youngest winner ever hamilton was out of order on his moves on glock and webber i like hamilton but i hope he gets penelized for that to make him think again next time.
