I watched this the other day on Gametrailers:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/31203.html

Its the latest ScrewAttack where they take a look at Mickey Mania on the Snes. Its a game I have and got towards the end of the Snes, as far as I remember and actually it was the first time I started to get more games than I had time to play. I got Mickey Mania around the same time as Pop n Twinbee, Cybernator and something else I think, and I found it difficult to get enough play time with any of them- a feature of the state of my gaming which is pretty much out of control nowadays, lol.

Anyway, I thought Mickey Mania was pretty decent- I never completed it and I'm not sure I could remember how far I got. The game had no save files so you had to play through it all at once and I mind one evening I sat down with it and got quite far... well, past that level where the moose chases you anyway. I always thought the first level was class, the way it started out black and white and the colour seeped in- awesome. The game was tough as nails, even for my young hardcore gamer self!

Well, I never played Magical Quest (from what I remember) but ScrewAttack says its the better of the two games so lets discuss and vote!

I played neither, therefore I vote for option 3:

"World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck" for the Mega Drive

That game, much like any Disney game from the time, was class. You could play as Mickey, Donald, or Co-op with a friend.

You had different levels depending on who you had chosen (Example: At one part, Mickey had an Underwater Cave to explore, while Donald had a Tropical Islands level. If you had chosen the Co-op mode, you would get a totally different level, the Aquatic Ruins)

Music and Graphics were fantastic, and the game just oozed charm. The enemies you had to face included Mad Madam Min and tons of baddies that looked like the Mad Hatter and the twins from Alice in Wonderland.

Anyway, here's a

..I loved Mickey Mania on the SNES.. I'm gutted I never owned it..

An appearance on the VC would be most welcome and would be an instant download :heh: ..after watching that video, I remembered basically every section of it (and that it was a very difficult game!)

To hell with all of them, Quackshot owns them all! I know it was on the Megadrive but I dont care :heh:

Ah, Quackshot. I only played the first levels, but it was so very memorable.

Can't we just make this a Mickey/Donald classic games thread? :heh:

Let's not forget Castle of Illusion.

Though I preferred the Master System version

Yes! Castle of Illusion, I played this quite a bit on the Master System- I could get to the final boss, the wizard up in the castle, but I never managed to finish it. It was a top game.

I have one other Mickey Mouse game, on the Gameboy. I think it was one of the first Gameboy games I got and man is it useless. I can still remember one of the tunes in it to this day and I assure you I haven't played it in over ten years! It was a strange old game, password based, and I lent it to my cousin to see what he could make of it. Seeing as he is older than me he managed to complete the game by working through the vast majority of it, then he told me he got bored or stuck and started guessing passwords for it. They were four letter words and he eventually got the one for the last level - GIFT. Using this knowledge, I also completed the game haha.

BTW, I made it a thread putting Mania against Magical Quest because I took inspiration from that ScrewAttack, don't hate me. :(

I had Mickey Mania on the SNES and loved it. It was really hard though. The ghost house level (with slippery slideys everywhere) proved troublesome to me and some of the parrallax scrolling levels warped my fragile little mind. However, it was beautifully presented and had a quirky niceness about it all. I got to the last boss once (prince and the pauper I hazily think) and it was just evil. I did however play it on the PS1 a few years ago and the only difference was smoother effects and some of those classic RUN INTO THE SCREEN! Levels. It was also WAAAAAAY easier too with lives dotted seemingly all over the place.

SNES version FTW!

Quackshot was lovely too.

:o Do you mean that you think there were levels added to the PS1 version where you run into the screen? Hmm, unless you mean they added more because I certainly remember that on my Snes one there was atleast one level where you were chased by a moose towards the screen. It was deadly!

Yeah, it was just more "3d". I guess we had the Lion King to thank for that fad :o Without those levels we never would have seen crash Bandicoot eh?!

Oh, that stampede level was just awesome, my friend. Specially the music.

To be fair most of their great games were made by Capcom.

I meant movies too :p

Aladdin (SNES) is still one of my favourite platformers...Just due to my childhood colliding with it at some point. The MD version was lush too. Virgin Interactive made some great Disney games (Jungle Book, Lion King).

Man was Lion King hard! Still is today...The Jungle Book has lovely animation though :)
