Nope on both accounts. Think the game will stay Japan only for now at least. There are rumblings that the likes of XSEED are trying to get the game over to the west but whether it'll happen or not is yet to be seen. However, Namco did just open a EU distribution place in Europe for localising their titles so there is a chance that it could be localised. I just wouldn't get your hopes up as it didn't do hugely well in Japan.

Just seen this over at GoNintendo. Very interesting....

Appreciate the heads-up on Fragile, it’s a title that’s been requested many times before so we’re looking into it. To everyone that’s written in to us, we will expect everyone to get their pre-order in the week that we announce it if we should get lucky enough to work on such a great looking title. - Ken @ XSEED Games

No. XSEED, should they be allowed to publish the title, would be publishing it in the US. Who publishes it if it were to come to Europe is unknown but I would think that perhaps someone like Rising Star Games would step in (and I'm surprised they haven't stepped up to ask about releasing it in Europe).

IGN - Fragile Coming to America!

Earlier this year, Namco Bandai shipped the acclaimed adventure game Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon in Japan and American players eagerly awaited news of a local release, which sadly never came. When contacted, Namco Bandai representatives explained that the company had no plans to publish the title, set to the backdrop of an atmospheric post-apocalyptic world, in the U.S.

Thankfully, though, Xseed Games does. IGN is able to exclusively reveal to its readers today that Xseed has secured the North American publishing rights to Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. The tri-Crescendo-developed project will ship stateside for Wii this winter, according to the company.

"We are ecstatic to be able to finally confirm Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon for gamers in North America," said Jun Iwasaki, president of Xseed Games. "We have received countless requests from eager gamers pleading with us to publish this title, and it gives us great joy to be able to give the public what they want while being able to work on such a great game."

American gamers will finally be able to experience the sensational Japanese adventure courtesy Xseed Games.

Fragile follows the adventures of a young boy named Seto who may or may not be the last human being alive. As the lonely character searches the foggy, light-abandoned world for survivors, armed with a flashlight, he stumbles across a mysterious girl named Ren and becomes infatuated with her. Unfortunately, the two become separated and Seto embarks on a quest to find Ren again. Along the way, the hero must fight off ghosts and demons that haunt the landscapes, explore dark and seemingly empty ruins, and put together the pieces of a puzzle that will ultimately reveal the downfall of mankind. The title has received high praise for its emotional storyline and stunning graphics and has remained on IGN's most wanted lists since we first played the Japanese import.

We caught up with Xseed's localization manager Kenji Hosoi to learn more about the care being taken to bring the much-hyped game stateside intact.

IGN: First of all, great job picking this game up. You're set to bring it out "winter 2009." That's pretty vague. Can we expect it for the holiday?

Kenji Hosoi: Thank you, we're very excited to be working on this title.

We'll try our best to bring it in time for the holidays, but since the game needs to have full English voice-recording done, a pre-holiday release will be extremely tight. We'll keep you guys updated.

IGN: Fragile boasts a great story complemented by top Japanese voice work. How are you handling the localization of both?

Kenji: With extreme care... Since the original game is set in Japan, we're keeping it that way for the North American version as well. Regarding voice-overs, the Japanese voice actors are very good, as usual, so we'll have our work cut out for us to try to match their quality.

IGN: Will you keep the Japanese dub as an alternative for those who want it? ?

Kenji: We've already asked the development team to add a voice option where the player can choose from English or Japanese audio, and the initial feedback has been promising. Nothing is certain yet, but I'm sure they will do everything possible to add that option in so keep your fingers crossed.

Fragile has earned high praise for its tight controls, gorgeous graphics and emotional storyline.

IGN: What about English voice work? What're your ambitions there?

Kenji: We're all looking forward to doing the recording for the English voices. Still trying to finish the text translations so casting hasn't started yet, but hopefully we can live up to the Japanese voices.

To the hardcore gamers out there that think "if it's not Japanese it's crap", please check out the English voices too because we do work really hard on the English voice-over recordings and it'll be a shame if nobody uses the English audio option (assuming we're lucky enough to keep the original Japanese, of course).

IGN: Finally, content wise, are any changes planned?

Kenji: Some of the graphics will of course be changed to English, but we're really not taking anything out or thinking about any major changes at this point. We're trying to get some additional content as the development team seems to be really enthusiastic about their game getting released in North America, but too early to tell if scheduling and technical issues may prevent it or not at this point.

Stay tuned to IGN for much more on Fragile leading up to the game's winter release. While you wait, be sure to check out new screenshots of the stunning game in motion in our media section.

Hell yeh! Thank you XSEED. With new English voice work in place, I'd reckon someone like Rising Star Games will pick it up for Europe. I can only hope we hear something good. Or hell, Namco have their own EU offices now so perhaps we may even get an official release through them.

Excellent news. Hopefully, we see a Euro release- if not its time for me to buy a US Wii

In all honesty, if ever there was a game to make me buy a US console just to play it on then this would be it.

I'm that drawn to it.

I just get the feeling the experience will be as rich as a game like ICO, which is something I really don't feel like missing out on.

Which is why this news pleases me muchly :bouncy:

Guest Captain Falcon

I am very much looking forward to this one, but I still have my doubts over a European release.

Hopefully they will prove unfounded.

Now, I agree that I want to play the game and I've been half-heartedly been following the game. But, Isn't an Ico comparison a little much. This looks to be pretty standard RPG stuff, while Ico can make people cry and convey such strong emotions with nary a word said.

Perhaps. But I just feel that enthusiastic about this game :)

WRONG!

Probably.

Well we'll just see what this game can do once we get to play it ;)

I'm turning into a Rising Star Games "fanboy". :p

I have to say, they are one of the best things to happen to the European and Australian markets. They are bringing some wonderful games that we might have missed otherwise, and a few of the games they released didn't even get a US release.

Just look at some of their currently announced Wii games:

-JU-ON: The Grudge (2009)

-Muramasa: The Demon Blade (2009)

-Valhalla Knights : Eldar Saga (2009)

-No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle (2010)

-Fragile (2010)

-Rune Factory Frontier (still undated)

-Arc Rise Fantasia (still undated)
