Sméagol Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Those are looking good drahkon, especially the last one. I’d like to get them, but with one of my videocards seemingly blown up, I’m not sure if that’s a good idea . I also have 2 indie games I’m interested in, but I’ll post them in the indie game thread later.

Dooo eeeet! :p Sir, you are being Hunted! is sooo good. That moment when you try to get some useful items and hear a 'bleep'. Shit's about to get real. I've spent more time holding my breath than breathing while playing this game.
flameboy Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 @flameboy According to NotebookCheck (Your friend and mine) that does not use dedicated graphics memory. That seems like a pretty modest laptop all-told, would be fine for basic stuff. What roughly is the most taxing thing you're going to want to do with it? Yeah but the acer sticker on the top of the laptop said had dedicated memory so who do I believe?! Will it be any good for the gaming habits I described?
gaggle64 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Yeah but the acer sticker on the top of the laptop said had dedicated memory so who do I believe?! Will it be any good for the gaming habits I described? Should do, Fallout 3 is the only question mark but I'm sure it'll be fine on lower settings. For a $400 budget it seems solid. Integrated graphics are in a weird place right now as they're starting to reach out to where you would normally get a dedicated low-end card. If you're prepared to stretch to an extra $50 this model should leave you somewhat more secure with a low end 4-core processor and extra ram, though it's still quite modest. ($50 off, but only for the next couple of days.) http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/toshiba-toshiba-satellite-c40d-14-laptop-amd-a6-5200-750gb-hdd-6gb-ram-windows-8-white-c40d-a-008/10257007.aspx?path=e8f360a1a972256fcde4d3e41f017dc8en02&SearchPageIndex=1 Edited August 20, 2013 by gaggle64

Happenstance Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I know most of us dont like using Origin but they've got a sale on at the moment. Some prices arent great compared to Steam sales but there are some good deals in there. Im thinking about getting Syndicate. https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/browse/pc-download/on-sale
Cube Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Not to mention the Humble Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/
gaggle64 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Heads up: there's a special Total War sale on Steam until the 26th, seems all the current Total War titles are 50% off and the Total War master collection is 75% off (less than £20 for Rome, Empire, Medieval 2 and some other goodies.) I don't think I can resist.

Tales Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) They were even cheaper during the summer sale, but getting Rome and Medieval II for less than 4 euros is very very good. Spent lots of time on those two. If you get Medieval II I highly recommend the expansion pack. The Britannia campaign, among other, is very fun. Bought To the Moon on todays sale. I shall see if I can find time for it tomorrow. Played a few minutes today though, chuckled a few times from the dialouge and the game seems interesting. Happenstance Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Greenlight anniversary sale starting today on Steam, theres a couple that I might pick up.
Happenstance Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Been playing Prison Architect a bit. Its pretty good so far but I am struggling to get a prison built by the time my first load of prisoners arrive. I just had 3 run off as their cells were still being built lol Also, I was surprised at how dark the tutorial is straight away, making you build an electric chair ready for a prisoner on death row and then letting you see his backstory through flashbacks. Also also, I am already getting a bit obsessed with Euro Truck Simulator 2, to the point that I am considering buying myself a racing wheel for it.
The Bard Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Yo GRID 2 is half price at the moment, I remember @gaggle64 being a fan of the first one, what's the word on the sequel, I'm jonesing to try a racing sim?

The message from the developers make it sound very bad.
Nolan Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Not going to explore fully, but has Papers, Please been talked up here yet? Because it is fantastic and I recommend to everyone. PC and Mac, and Steam Greenlit now as well.
Happenstance Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 How does it play? The message from the developers make it sound very bad. Which one, Prison Architect or Euro Truck? Also what message?
Tales Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Which one, Prison Architect or Euro Truck? Also what message? Prison Architect. On the game page, there is always(usually) a message from the developers if the game is in alpha. http://store.steampowered.com/app/233450/
Happenstance Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Ah right. Yeah its Early Access so there will be bugs but as the game isnt finished yet thats to be expected. I havent come across any yet myself though. I guess it just depends if you are interested enough in the game to get it early for the cheaper price and play through the development issues that might come up or just wait for the full release and pay more. I have only played an hour or so at the moment but for me at least its played just fine, if they hadnt told me it was still in alpha then I never would have realised.
Tales Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I think I will wait for a sale on the full game anyway. Bought the physical copy of Rome II before the weekend but it can't be activated until release day because it's a Steam game. That's effective version of DRM. Anyway, if the wait to play the game wasn't bad enough, it's waiting to find out if I can play the freakin game in the first place :p I meet recommended specs except for the video card. Hopefully it can run, I don't mind if it looks like an HD version of the original game.
Cube Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I had the same annoyance with Tomb Raider. Got the game before release and I couldn't play it until it was out. I actually ended up pre-loading the game through Steam, so the disc was never used (as you can't pre-load from the disc).

I've heard mostly good things, haven't had chance to play it yet but it sounds super interesting. They've done away with cockpit views and streamlined the way the difficulty options work right down. It's not really a "sim" per say, like it's predecessor it's for people who want a racing game to dip-in and out of, rather than a greater level of dedication like Forza or GT. If you played the TOCA games back in the day this is it's most direct descendent. If you've enjoyed any of Codemaster's other racing games I say go for it.

Yeah, I thought the Dirt games were pretty great, but I haven't really gotten acquainted with proper, hardcore racing sims. I've been looking for something like Forza or GT on PC and I figure it would be a cool genre to try and wrap my head around. Never played the TOCA games either. I don't understand why, but the PC market seems to be pretty scant on Racing sims, which is bizarre since there's a huge selection of sims for practically every other niche. I'll give the original GRID a spin, and see where to go from there.
gaggle64 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Oh, I can affirm the original GRID is fantastic. Go for that if you haven't played it already. Still looks fantastic on my 360.
