As we know Electronic Arts gave a conference and then made all the people sign NDA's (non disclosure agreements), yesterday news appeared that, the NDA was apparently broken by someone, here's what I found:

- Mic for Wii (no ordinary mic?)

- EA working on Wii WiFi - No friend codes for games rated T and up

- EA working on Harry Potter game - "graphics as good as last world on Sonic Secret Rings"

- Wild Western FPS, uses mic (I think)

- NHL game (something to do with 1994 NHL game)

- Black and White 3 for Wii

- Battlefield for Wii and PS3

- Fight Night 2007 for all consoles (including Wii)

I don't know if it's true, some things are doubtable, others are obvious and others just make sense and would be hard to make up, like the "no friend codes for games above Teen rating".

If it's true it means no friend codes for Super Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime 3, but could mean codes for... for example Mario Kart Wii (look's at Mario Kart DD/DS "3+/E for Everyone" rating)

In the end could be a mix of all that or fake altogether (like already stated), so take it as a grain of salt.

About the music game:

MTV News has a great article up about Electronic Arts's new music download serivce, EA Trax. Featuring tons of quotes from EA's worldwide executive of music and marketing Steve Schnur, the article gives all info. on Trax you could possibly want: songs previously available only in EA games, original scores from games like Medal of Honor, no DRM restrictions on songs, and an iTunes-inspired pricing scheme -- $.99 per song, $9.99 for a full album.

Now to the really juicy stuff. Hidden at the very end of the article is this oh-so salivatory snippet:

"And for those wondering if EA is going to sit idly by while other companies prove that music-based games like "Guitar Hero" and "Dance Dance Revolution" become roaring successes, there's news coming.

"I've been pushing for a long time to be honest with you," Schnur said. "I think you'll see us breaking into the genre sooner than you think."

A music-based game with the licensing power of Electronic Arts could be really fantastic or really awful. At the very least, it seems that people like Schnur have the passion. However it turns out, you know we'll keep our ears to the ground for you.

Oh McMad likes that, and to thank EA for their Pro-Wiiness I'm gonna buy SSX Blur, but also because it's got good reviews and we're entering a drought.

No friend codes T and up means...

Their own servers?

Posted

the best one out of them:

No friend codes for games rated T and up

I've always said that the friend codes system (think I have posted it here somewhere) should be applied in line with the parental control system.

Think your right Jordan it would point to them having their own servers.

Black & White is EA's property. EA owns nearly all of Bullfrog's / Lionhead's earlier properties.

He's right.

Lionhead only own the 'Fable' and 'The Movies' properties these days. EA can do anything they want with the Black and White series... but it'd probably suck.

The first 2 did, whats stopping the third one.

Hm, sounds good if true. There was a post on Gonintendo mentioning EA's NDA. Things they couldn't talk about, but apparently already broken by someone. I thought their 'secret' was the Spielberg Wii game. The Western FPS sounds cool, feels fresh at least. No futuristic or WWII FPS anymore.

If there's no Friend Codes for games rated T or higher, that's a positive sign. Kinda makes sense too. The whole FC system was meant to protect the children. T-rated games are not meant to be played by kids, so they would technically avoid any issues of people taking advantage of them. It would be confusing though. Some games requires them, other dont...

Anyway, we'd better wait till we here more about it. There should be an announcement soon I suppose.

Thats slightly unfair. Both Black and Whites received positive reviews and while the second one seemed a little more constricting than the the first it was still good.

If I was microsoft would of dumped a whole heap of money for black and white, just becuase that was his best title hes done in quite along time,

Fable was good but didn't have that rpg feel to it. More like an action adventure game. In the words of that famous wrestler: "DAMN"

Sounds logic that games rated T will not use friendcodes, as they aren't meant for childeren that need protection.

But is good news if true

Posted

I don't understand why we should have friendcodes on Wii anyway if we have parental control. Just apply the controls then children will need a PIN to play the online mode in games rated under T.

Posted

I don't get why we should have to suffer friend codes at all. Parents should take five minutes of their time and set parental control up in Wii's settings if they are worried.

Posted

I really do like the friend codes, I've listened to too many screeching requests from American pre-pubescents wanting me to join their clan to feel otherwise.

Posted

The thing is, parents don't know about the parental controls and hence they don't get used...

I wish it were like that though, all games used a unified friends list and all had voice chat.

Well if atleast 3 of those where true then that would be fantastic.

Especially the

- Mic for Wii (no ordinary mic?)

- EA working on Wii WiFi - No friend codes for games rated T and up.

I read on Codename I think that the mic was motion sensing or something. But god I hope these 2 are true.

Sounds interesting.

- Mic for Wii with Motion sensing

- Wild Western FPS, uses mic

Hmm...

Move head slightly to left/right/up/down, character starts turnin in that direction. (If it's a headset mic)

Posted

That would be cool if your head moved on the game,or your head controlled the camera or something.

But that would be a couple Wifi games in development from 3rd parties if its true.

I'm kinda hoping that 3rd parties can have their own online server so you can talk with a mic or have the choice to use the friend code system from Nintendo. But it would seem there are online devs out.
