Lyrics Of The Day

I wanted to say: Why the long face?

Sparrow; perch and play songs of long face

Burro, Buck; bray songs of long face!

Sing: I will swallow your sadness and eat your cold clay

Just to lift your long face.

And though it may be madness, I will take to the grave

Your precious long face.

And though our bones they may break, and our souls separate -

Why the long face?

And though our bodies recoil from the grip of the soil -

Why the long face?

Yeah, I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge.

The kids are coming up from behind.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge to the kids from France and from London.

But I was there.

I was there in 1968.

I was there at the first Can show in Cologne.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks.

I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978.

I'm losing my edge.

To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin.

I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties.

But I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge, but I was there.

I was there.

But I was there.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge.

I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks.

But I was there.

I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City.

I was working on the organ sounds with much patience.

I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band.

I told him, "Don't do it that way. You'll never make a dime."

I was there.

I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids.

I played it at CBGB's.

Everybody thought I was crazy.

We all know.

I was there.

I was there.

I've never been wrong.

I used to work in the record store.

I had everything before anyone.

I was there in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan.

I was there in Jamaica during the great sound clashes.

I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988.

But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent.

And they're actually really, really nice.

I'm losing my edge.

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s.

I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record.

I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.

I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.

I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know.

But have you seen my records? This Heat, Pere Ubu, Outsiders, Nation of Ulysses, Mars, The Trojans, The Black Dice, Todd Terry, the Germs, Section 25, Althea and Donna, Sexual Harrassment, a-ha, Pere Ubu, Dorothy Ashby, PIL, the Fania All-Stars, the Bar-Kays, the Human League, the Normal, Lou Reed, Scott Walker, Monks, Niagra,

Joy Division, Lower 48, the Association, Sun Ra,

Scientists, Royal Trux, 10cc,

Eric B. and Rakim, Index, Basic Channel, Soulsonic Force ("just hit me"!), Juan Atkins, David Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Gil! Scott! Heron!, the Slits, Faust, Mantronix, Pharaoh Sanders and the Fire Engines, the Swans, the Soft Cell, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics.

You don't know what you really want.

Your eyes tell the stories of a day you wish you could

Recall the moments that once have

Retract the footsteps that brought us to this favor

I wouldn't ask this of you

Good eye, sniper

Here I'll shoot, you run

The words you scribbled on the walls

With the loss of friends you didn't have

I'll call you when the time is right

Are you in or are you out?

For them all to know the end of us all

I tell you how I feel, but you don't care

I say tell me the truth, but you don't dare

You say love is a hell you cannot bear

And I say gimme mine back and then go there, for all I care!

I got my feet on the ground

And I don't go to sleep to dream

You got your head in the clouds

And you're not at all what you seem.

This mind, this body

And this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways

So don't forget what I told you

Don't come around, I got my own hell to raise.

Sleep to Dream - Fiona Apple

Is there anyone? Is it any wonder?

Is there anyone?

Is it any wonder?

Is there anyone?

Is it any wonder...

I'm out the door

I'm out the door, now.

Is there any way?

Is there any way forward?

Is there any way?

Is there any way forward?

Is there anyone?

Is it any wonder?

Thought I had a witness...

Thought you were...you were..

Thought I was a witness

You could turn to, not in

Thought I had a witness

Thought I did...

As today is a year since I went to Japan this seems apt (copy and paste job and too lazy to try and transcribe the Japanese):

Broadcast Yourself
Audio

From the west to the east I have flown to be near you

I have come all this way to be close, to be here with you

And now, all my heart I will lay down precisely at your feet

My beloved, oh my sweet

All the gifts you have given me

The patience and the peace,

Cherry blossoms and the candy,

I am yours, I am yours

For as long, for as long as you will have me

Dearest one, I had a dream

I mouthed the words,

The sound came out,

I spoke to you in Japanese

Oh, my love I cannot see, I heard your name

I know at once there was no place I’d rather be

All at once there was no place that I would rather be

From the west to the east I have flown to be near you

I have come all this way to be close, to be here with you

And now, all my heart I will lay down precisely at your feet

My beloved, oh my sweet

All the gifts you have given me

The patience and the peace,

Cherry blossoms and the candy,

I am yours, I am yours

For as long, for as long as you will have me

I packed my bag, I’m on my way

I am prepared for any season

I am prepared to stay

Here is my heart, my beating heart

Oh, how I’m longing for this love affair to start

How I’m longing for this love affair to finally start

From the west to the east I have flown to be near you

I have come all this way to be close, to be here with you

And now, all my heart I will lay down precisely at your feet

My beloved, oh my sweet

All the gifts you have given me

The patience and the peace,

Cherry blossoms and the candy,

I am yours, I am yours

For as long, for as long as you will have me

[… Japanese …]

From the west to the east I have flown to be near you

I have come all this way to be close, to be here with you

And now, all my heart I will lay down precisely at your feet

My beloved, oh my sweet

All the gifts you have given me

The patience and the peace,

Cherry blossoms and the candy,

I am yours, I am yours

For as long, for as long as you will have me

In and out on this same path that I followed for years

Can't I look around and ask how could we still end up out here?

I can't just hold tight

Wait for them to cut us to ribbons

If the sharpest thing where you come is a blade of grass

Oh take me with you

I don't need shoes to follow

Bare feet running with you

Somewhere the rainbow ends my dear

These injuries

Don't you think we need a new referee?

I can't let the ball drop

Boy I need some interference to shut them up.

Oh take me with you

I don't need shoes to follow

Bare feet running with you

Somewhere the rainbow ends my dear

Oh take me with you

Chase rabbits into their burrow

Bare feet running with you

Today even the rain can cut me up

Tears turn to steal and the wound never heals

in the darkness of November

Well the witch is in the tower

And the snake's in the bower

And the hunt goes on forever

Now the stake is there to burn

My fathers robe is torn between cross and Mother

With the blood on your hands come on

What you doing?

I. am. fed. up. with. this. questioning!

Here.

Here.

Oh take me with you

I don't need shoes to follow

Bare feet running with you

Somewhere the rainbow ends my dear

Oh take me with you

Chase rabbits into their burrow

Bare feet running with you

Today.

Today.

Oh take me with you

I don't need shoes to follow!

Bare feet running with you

Today even the rain

Even the rain

Even the rain

Can cut me up

Take me with you

Take me with you

EDIT: Interesting fact in that this song was conceived in 1990, with just the piano track and the chorus and bridge intact. The artist in question however couldn't quite manage to finish it so gave it up and left it in the vault. It wasn't until one of the sound engineers dug it up again in 2006 that the rest of the lyric was written and the track finally completed. 16 years in the making you could say. Such a beautiful concept.

I bloody love this song, and the lyrics are some of the best part. It's talking about a relationship with 'someone' and then she compares her relationship with this 'someone' who she just met with a long time friend who isn't there...

Her name is Cherry

We've just met

But already she knows me

Better than you

She understands me

After eighteen years

And you still don't see me

Like you ought to do

Maybe we could talk 'bout things

If you was made of wood and strings

While I love her every sound

I dunno how to turn you down

You're so thick and my patience thin

So I got me a knew best friend

With a pickup that puts you to shame

And Cherry is her name

And when I'm lonely

Cherry's there

And she plays along

While I sing out my blues

I could be crying

And you don't care

You won't call me back

You're stubborn as mule

Maybe we could talk 'bout things

If you was made of wood and strings

You might think I've gone too far

I'm talking 'bout my new guitar

^ My favourite when I saw her live (before I owned Frank).

Ah! 0.0

So you got to see Amy. I would love to see her perform live. So when did you see her live? Hopefully I'll get to see her when she brings out her new album which I think is going to be the start of next year.

So jealous :p

Saw her November 2007. The first concert after a much publicised one where she was drunk/bad, threw something at a booing audience member, then left after 3 songs.

But she was note-perfect and on top-form! It's a shame I didn't know Frank before, cause I much prefer that to Back to Black now, and maybe would've appreciated the Frank songs more at the time.

I don't remember one moment I tried to forget

I lost myself yet I'm better not sad

Now I'm closer to the edge

It was a a thousand to one and a million to two

Time to go down in flames and I'm taking you

Closer to the edge

No I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No, no, no, no

Can you imagine a time when the truth ran free

A birth of a song, a death of a dream

Closer to the edge

This never ending story, hate 4 wheel driving fate

We all fall short of glory, lost in ourself

No I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No, no, no, no

No, no, no, no

I will never forget

No, no

I will never regret

No, no

I will live my life

No, no, no, no

I will never forget

No, no

I will never regret

No, no

I will live my life

No I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No, no

No, I'm not saying I'm sorry

One day, maybe we'll meet again

No, no, no, no

Closer to the edge

Closer to the edge

No, no, no, no

Closer to the edge

Closer to the edge

No, no, no, no

Closer to the edge

Can't get this out my head since hearing it on the radio this morning.

It's only just a crush, it'll go away

It's just like all the others, it'll go away

Or maybe this is danger and you just don't know

You pray it all away but it continues to grow

I want to hold you close

Skin pressed against me tight

Lie still, close your eyes girl

So lovely, it feels so right

I want to hold you close

Soft breath, beating heart

As I whisper in your ear:

"I wanna fucking tear you a p a r t"
