Guest Jordan Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 *moved to the tech board... you know the right place*
Sanchez Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Completely depends on what you want to use it for.
gorrit Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 As Sanchez said, it all depends on what you want to use it for. Gaming? Noo. I use mine as a computer that: Looks great (I have it plus a nice looking LCD monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse. It just looks great) Doesn't make alot of noice. Do "normal" but not high end stuff on.
#1cubeplayer Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Wow. That computer is now on my wishlist. I've always loved smaller, compact devices. Roadkill, do you still have that little computer cube of yours? Did you build that yourself?
Mike_C Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I would save up for the imac... save to stick with a popular line... how is the mini selling? I think i read they are going to discontinue the emac so stay away from that. I would save up and get the imac dude.
Guest Offerman Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I thought it was a CD player when I first saw it. In retrospect in would probably be better suited. EDIT - If you want some small computing fun - build your own cube. Its abit bigger then a Mini, but for a start its x86. And also you can put what ever the hell you like in it. http://www.xcase.co.uk/acatalog/ITX_Cases.html
Caris Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 normall computers for me, macs are as someone on this board (think roadkill) said "samey" which is a A way of explaing them, also i play alot of games so Macs are not for me.
ipaul Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 i dont really want 1 for gaming, just for more basic uses like photos, songs and home movies. Will it run halo fine?
Guest Offerman Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 i dont really want 1 for gaming, just for more basic uses like photos, songs and home movies. Will it run halo fine? Nah, Halo needs at least a DirectX9B GPU to run. Which includes the Geforce FX5x00 series and Radeon 9X00 series. So no, sadly.
Colin Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Nah, Halo needs at least a DirectX9B GPU to run. Which includes the Geforce FX5x00 series and Radeon 9X00 series. So no, sadly. The Mac Mini's have got Radeon 9200's in them, so they are more than capable of handling Halo. I can even run Halo on my Radeon 7000. Apparently, Apple are going to be upgrading the Mac Mini's over the coming months, so it may be worth waiting a short while so you get more bang for your buck.
ipaul Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 Cool. I heard they run sims 2 fine as well. Is OSX Tiger really way better than XP?
Blackfox Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Instead of asking us, why dont you use the magic of http://www.google.com to do all your research needs.
Charlie Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Halo runs fine on my 1.42ghz 512 RAM mini. I think Apple are giving you 1.5ghz Minis even though they say 1.42 now, not sure if it's confirmed though.
AshMat Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 I was watching the gadget show adn they recomened NOT to get it. You dont get, like with regular macs, a screen too . that 350 quid is just the tower, then there's A monitor--> 450 keyboard and mouse you could be costing yourself nearly 500 quid
Haver Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 We should do away the mods, and have someone write a script which automatically replies to any topic related to buying or upgrading a PC/Mac with: "BUILD ONE YOURSELF LOL REALLY EASY SAVE MONEY LOL"

Grebe Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Instead of asking us, why dont you use the magic of http://www.google.com to do all your research needs. Got a PC problem? Starting a clan? In need of Mobile Phone-related help? Or just want to know the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R? Talk it all out here! Mac users will be laughed at. That explains that There would be no point in having a 'Tech Board' if these threads were not created.
Haver Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 He's right, just build your own/ pay someone to build your own pc, that way you will only pay for things you want. Jump off a bridge!
ipaul Posted October 15, 2005 Author Posted October 15, 2005 Didn't the gadget show also say the DS was crap? I've seen 1 in Pc world with flat screen monitor, mouse + keyboard for £459 or thereabouts so you know. What are the possible near-future upgrades?

No one really knows. I doubt they'll be any major upgrades.
Ryan Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 It's just minor things that worry me about Macs, one being I need to do school work at home and my school uses keep and ugly computers with Windows XP. So is there any Office-type package on the Mac ocmpatible with XP?
