Yeah I see what you mean. My point was really based around choice of how much you want to spend, if you wanted to spend the least amount of money on a wii you can just get a console and be gaming with that for about 170 quid. For a 360 you can buy a Core unit with no hard drive and a memory card and be gaming with that for about 200 quid. With the PS3, you have no choice but to buy the PS3 in the only way you can for 400 quid. Vaguely similar to the PC/Mac thing with your options for a cheap PC being greater than that of a Mac and with a significant price difference.

I can definately see where you're coming from with the Apple = Nintendo thing but consider this: Apple Macs are (generally) more expensive than it's competitors Apple Macs exclude choice more than the competitors (OS X tie in only on Apple machines, Ipod/Itunes) and forces you to pay over the odds for functionality you might not need (No budget hardware options, possibility of changing hardware) Macs are generally considered to have a better build quality than the competition. Now replace "Apple Macs" with "PS3s". I'm not trying to start an argument here BTW, just something I was thinking about earlier. Apple as a company are similar to Nintendo with the whole "Underdog makes good, innovative products" thing. But the Mac (to me) is similar to the PS3 with the whole "Expensive, lack of choice, all or nothing" thing.

The Shadowrun demo has been delayed for a day apparantly so don't be waiting around for it to drop.

If they have any sense it will cost no more than the retail game for PS2. However they've just tried to charge me 800 points for a pac man game so anything is possible.

Seems like a long time since a proper Star Wars game. Hope it's good

I liked having the racing line on that changes colour if your going too fast around a corner, it really helped me improve my overall technique.

Nice specs. The laptop I got has about 80 Gigs in it too I think (it's hidden away till the birthday so I can't check but i don't think it's less than that) and it has a dvd writer too, and a SD card slot thing. So all in all i've got a fairly similar spec machine other than the processor which pretty much kills mine! Though i'm sure many would disagree!

I can't say I know what spec the lowest mac book is as I looked at the price and immediately knew it was out of my range for the deal i was after. But the laptop I got has a gig of ram, 1.7 Ghz processor, widescreen, wireless and bluetooth built in and Vista (which i upgrated to Ultimate for free via work). Oh, and it was brand new from Toshiba so no risk of being ripped off by an evil ebayer. As I say, I don't know how that compares but I wasn't after a speed machine, just a nice light web surfer for the gf. For me, the Mac's biggest weakness is the price for new hardware. Edit: I don't like being called "What ever your name is"

HD-DVD - Blu Ray. Which will win and take over from DVD
theguyfromspark replied to Jimbob's topic in General Chit Chat
Further to this, some HD DVD disks are actually double sided, with the HD movie on one side and the SD equivalent on the other. It's not used that often though but it's nice to know the option is there. -
I bought a laptop PC a few weeks ago for 350 quid, i could find the lowest spec mac book for about 720 i think.

I think it should be called: C.A.N.T.K.I.L.L.Y.O.U.B.U.T...

no email here yet either, but can we assume that this means July 15th is the start of the Wii Points to Stars conversion?

someone play him at Halo and record the game... I want to see him staggering around the map firing at rocks and running away screaming in his drunken stupor! He'd still be better than me at it though!

Lego batman was announced a while ago so that will probably be the next lego game (after the star wars complete saga)

Can I have some opinions of Shadow Run from those who bought it please. Been hearing very mixed reviews from this one and Microsoft seem to have all but ignored it even though it's the first PC to Xbox360 game. Plus the fact that FASA has been all but shut down after release doesn't fill me with confidence.

What I did: Stop Drinking non diet soft drinks and Use a Excercise Bike for 45 minutes while watching 24, Heroes or Battlestar Galactica I did that for 3 months and I lost 2 stones. What I then did: Sat on my arse all day playing games and drinking beer I did that for 1 month and put most of it back on.

Microsoft are perfectly suited to be one of the companies who pour research money, time and effort into this sort of thing due to their size and deep pockets. If this tech was released by an unknown company it wouldn't get nearly as much exposure as it has which can only be a good thing. Maybe the tech won't catch on, but I think it's brave of MS to give it a shot. Some of the possible uses for Surface described where: In a Bar or Restuarant, view menus, order food + drink and Pay by card through the interface. In a Pub Quiz night, show the questions and pictures/videos on each of the contestants tables, perhaps give them multiple choice questions and allow them to select the correct answer. The usual pay per minute internet access in reception areas. Also in the future, I can imagine curved quater pipe shaped surfaces that could replace desks in offices, with the vertical part of the surface replacing the PC moniter (if you played Dreamfall there's a similar system there). Anyway, as a software developer, I think it's inspiring and I urge people to be a little less closed minded about new technology, certain clever people could only see computers being sold to 5 companies at it's early stages and the TV was dismissed as useless to the masses too! -
The Hour of Victory Demo is awful, the controls are pooey, the graphics are last gen + HD and the tank bit is just plain bad.

If the RRP is £50 I'm going to send a letter of complaint, there's no way they could justify it. -
HD-DVD - Blu Ray. Which will win and take over from DVD
theguyfromspark replied to Jimbob's topic in General Chit Chat
Thinking about it from a typical consumer's perspective, the name HD DVD is clearly more meaningful than blu ray. I'm sure if i asked my Dad what Blue ray was he wouldn't know, but he'd have a good guess at HD DVD, and that's got to count for something once the prices start to fall and "real" people start buying them. -
Nothing much to do with Xbox but: Microsoft Surface has been announced http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/touch-me/microsoft-surface-confirmed-touch+sensitive-10k-minority-report-table-264338.php
