There's a rumour going round that Microsoft are going to reveal a new product at midnight EST. A lot of the blame lies with the TV/movie publishers as well. Itunes still hasn't got downloadable video content either and that has been available in the states for much longer. The problem is that the main broadcasters pay huge sums of money to obtain right to broadcast american shows exclusively on their station, if MS started selling these shows via Xbox it would probably breech one contract or another. My guess is, now that the region locking is in place on the marketplace and Video on Demand is slowly taking off on other services such as Virgin Media on 4od we should see some content soon. If we haven't seen anything by Autumn this year I'll start getting worried.

To be fair, Microsoft didn't produce the N edition to evade any EU fines, they produced them because the EU ordered them to do so on top of the fines they imposed. Of topic i know but I've always thought the ruling was pathetic anyway, if you buy Windows as an operating system you want to be able to access all the major kinds of files out of the box without having to install extra software so why not include Media Player? Apple guys enjoy the fact that an apple "just works" right out of the box but some say Microsoft are being anti-competitive when Microsoft attempt to do something similar themselves. Another angle on this is to consider what happens when you buy a car with a stereo system inbuilt, is that anti-competitive to all the other makers of stereo systems?

You can hide an executable application in windows by renaming the extension, but then you can't execute it so there's no risk. For the record, I like macs method of recognising file types as it uses the same method as unix and linux but I can't see how one method makes it more or less likely to obtain a virus. At the end of the day, the user has to execute an executable file that contains the virus, either on Windows or on any other platform. (I'm excluding buffer overruns here as they are a different type of virus)

Very quickly.. I'm at work so can't spend much time explaining myself, but I can't really agree with anything you say here. If a file in windows has a jpeg extension it will open with whatever is configured to open jpeg files, typically a picture viewer editor. If you renamed an executable file containing a virus to have the jpeg extension and opened it, the picture viewer software would attempt to load the file as a picture, it wouldn't execute the file and therefore recieve the virus. The vast majority of viruses are spread due to people executing programs they recieve from unknown people on the internet or email. Even if the files have their extension renamed to something apparantly harmless, the person would have to first undo that rename in order to execute it, and anyone who does that deserves everything they get.

Just got the HD DVD add on and I'm surprised how quiet it is, I was expecting another noisy drive like the in built one but this one seems fine. Now i just have to wait until August for the Heroes boxed set to come out!

My face was scarily good when I did it. Made me shiver a little when i saw myself get shot in the head! Best thing to do is try and get a plain background behind you that's as white as possible.... and look the right way! BTW, you're not the person in family guy with an upside down face are you?

From my experiences, everyone can use the DLC. You can't download videos from the marketplace anymore though (or at least I can't!).

I bought a £350 laptop from laptops direct the other day, and it arrived the next day even though I only paid for the cheapest delivery option. Everything seems to work fine, 1 Gig of ram and a decent enough processor, runs vista ultimate well enough, can't fault it really.

Well Linderman did bring a flower back to life, and "fixed" that wheelchair woman, so maybe he can "fix" himself just before he dies. If you re-watch the penultimate episode, right at the end where that Inidan guy is doing the voice over he says something like "People need to heal" while the camera is on linderman.

Thinking about it, I can imagine an episode where the Doctor meets HG Wells and then a mini invasion of Earth starts similar to War of the Worlds which inspires him to write the book. It'd be pretty much like the shakespeare one but with red weed. Not saying it's a good idea of course!

You perv! Anyway, if you're getting something like "Can't find Xbox Security Method 3 driver" then just ignore it, it's not required on a PC, just on an Xbox. The actual driver will have been installed prior to this so MSN should detect the webcam and have the icon available. The same thing happens on my PC at home so if it's still not working, add me to your msn and I'll take you through it tonight.

Have you got Vista or XP or something else? Oh and what are you wanting to use it for on your PC... just MSN or taking pictures/Videos etc?
