  1. If you're gonna get PS1 games off the PSN, make a US account and get the US versions games off the US PSN store (they don't accept foreign cards directly, but you can use US region pre-paid cards and I think, not 100% certain mind you, that you can pay via Paypal and it's region free that way...) You can use original PS1 discs as well, but they're still region locked, so EU 50hz region discs only.
  2. Yeah it was originally a retail game. There's also another EG game on PS3 that is a port of the PS Vita game. BTW, you should consider God of War 1-3 on PS3. Even if you're not a fan of the whole ultra violent, somewhat pandering atmos, they're really solid and well made games. Almost like a linear Zelda game, there's a nice balance of combat, limited exploration and puzzle solving. There's also the two PSP games that got ported to PS3 (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta), but I didn't think much of them myself. They're not bad games, they just don't really offer anything interesting or new - just more of the same really But regardless, I reckon you'd like the original trilogy As for other games on PS3... Valkyria Chronicles is really good (it's a Fire Emblem style strategy RPG mixed with a turn based 3rd person shooter - if you can fathom that!), Miku Project Diva F is a solid rhythm game (nothing that will blow your socks off, but it's good fun), Afterburner Climax is a BRILLIANT sequel to the arcade original (and feels like a pure 80s game with a modern aesthetic), House of the Dead 4 is a fantastic port of the best HOTD game in the series (which is just as well since it's the only home console version available!), Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are absolutely seminal games that everybody should experience (and these HD ports are very well done) and the whole Devil May Cry 1-4 series (apart from 2, which is hot steaming garbage) are fantastic character action games that I'm sure you'll love - as is Metal Gear Rising (another incredible Platinum Games game BTW ) And then there is the massive selection of PS1 classics... Oh and there's still Sonic Lost World on Wii U you still need to pick up too
  3. Still not a single new gameplay mechanic that wasn't in the original SNES game outside of the giant egg move and the binoculars (and no. Adding gyro controls to the old Yoshi transformations, while not changing anything else, doesn't count!) This preview here also doesn't full me with much confidence. Just more of the same...
  4. Haha, that's awesome. Nice to see that they actually thought about that!
  5. That IS weird... You'd think they'd support it, given that DKCTF doesn't use the clickable sticks... Oh well I don't care anyway. I shall be playing it like God intended; Wiimote and Nunchuck in hand!
  6. A bit earlier than I was expecting, so that's nice That being said, I don't have a good feeling about this one (or a bad one, while. I'm at it!) From what they've shown of the game, there are exactly zero new game mechanics that were not present in the original SNES game other than the sole exception of the giant egg move (which apparently is soooo important that it ends up taking up most of the entire box art to itself!) I get that feeling that this game is content to be nothing more than an expansion pack style "more of the same" sequel to the original SNES game and if that's the case, then I'm not interested. Quite frankly, they haven't convinced me that the game actually deserves the title of Yoshi's New Island. There's nothing bloody new here at all! The NSMB games (for whatever you might say about the series' boring art style) all offered lots of new game mechanics, concepts and ideas throughout their respective adventures. If you can't offer that with YNI then it doesn't deserve that title!
  7. The sprites look good, much better than the horrific mess that was "Ace Attoney Trilogy HD" on iOS! Ugh! Well at least ol' Judgipoo will be done justice on 3DS!
  8. NEW TRAILER!!! DAT CHORUS!!! March 31 can't come a moment too soon! My most wanted non-Nintendo published game this year for sure! (Not even exaggerating at all! FOR SHOVELRY!!! )
  9. Still slightly ahead of the GCN's equivalent week (11,142), or slightly behind if you go by Famitsu's Wii U figure (11,026) for this week, but the difference is a wash either way so meh; meaning that this drop for Wii U isn't unexpected. Interestingly the 3DS is tracking similarily to the GBA on this equivalent 2003 week... (3DS via Famitsu = 50,044 - GBA = 59,201), though it did fall faster and harder...
  10. Well that's a nice surprise I'm sure we'll be getting it as well, probably eShop only, given that it already has the English script selectable (meaning that the only costs involved would be the English/FIGS manual and the PEGI rating - and that's peanuts really). Of course I'm much more interested in the potential for a follow up collection that includes Apollo Justice and AAI 1 & 2. Given the name of this collection in Japan (Ace Attorney 1,2,3: Phoenix Wright Collection), I'm feeling pretty good about the chances for an Apollo & Edgeworth collection
  11. It's too thin and not translucent enough. Look at her compared to Mario, the difference is obvious. It wouldn't be hard to fake such an image really (and of course you can just load the image onto a 3DS before taking a camera shot). The only part that's difficult is Palutena's model (which is REALLY well made!) No, playable characters only. It's there to make them stand out from the background and make the characters and action easier to follow on the small 3DS screen.
  12. I like the sound of those grab changes, Edgehoggers always piss me off Palutena is a blatant (but well made) fake. She's missing the thick, translucent black outline... And besides, we all know that Magnus was basically made to be 2nd KI character slot Smash Bros fodder anyway. If any KIU character gets in, it'll be him (Palutena doesn't have any semblance of a moveset either - she's much more likely to be an assist trophy along with the other Gods/Godesses)
  13. WHAT!? Really!? WHY!? Why would they doooooo that!? What a missed opportunity I was really hoping we'd see more animal buddies this time... The rest of the game had better be fucking amazing to make up for it! (Though I'm sure it will be regardless...)
  14. As promised; the results! (I was either Wario or Waluigi - The ultimate evil duo ) 10 chance times! Yes, 10 fecking Chance Times in one game! In all my years of Mario Partying, I have NEVER seen this happen in a 20 turn game before! When a game starts off giving someone a -9 coin minus block ON THE FIRST TURN, you know you're in for a good time! 2 bank robberies later (and 2 cheeky hidden blocks with stars inside later ) and I STILL manage to lose! Bloody Luigi wins by doing nothing... (that damn last turn and that fecking sneaky Boo... not that I would've won anyway since I seemed to fail miserably at playing mini games somehow ) Funnily enough, for being my favourite MP game, it was also hilariously boring. Literally nothing interesting happened for the whole first 10 turns! Not a single star was gained, nothing! Then I got to Game Guy and it all snowballed from there... How I love you so much Apologies for the crappy picture, it was really snapped in a hurry... A game of many ups and downs... but mostly downs! We were playing on DK's board (where the Ukikis throw bananas to determine if you go up or down at junctions) and 12 attempts later, not a single bloody player went up! Not once! So nobody could get to the last Star in the end no matter how much we tried... (Magic lamps were a popular choice here ) This game usually hates me (what with near enough 70% of the minigames being total luck) but not this time amazingly enough! No Get a Rope to be seen! (thank God!) And we were even lucky enough to get All Capsule Events in the last 5 turns! Yeah... this was a fun one! (and Pirahna Plants seemed to LOVE Boo this time around Believe it or not, but he actually won the Coin Star! ) Yeah... It's my cousin's favourite Mario Party game (he was Boo) and it shows... He loves it and it loves him (dirty little cheat...) I actually had 8 Stars at one point! That didn't last... No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't beat the Kung Boo... Bowser really had it out for me in this game; just couldn't reach the top (and I was the only player who didn't play the kung foo minigame. Clearly my skills are lacking; more training is yet needed :p) My God this game is terrible... It's even WORSE than I remember! And ironically it would be THIS game where I finally win again This game was as spastic as the trains themselves. A lovely total BS victory, where Boo missed that last star by a single space! 100 MINI STARS!!! NEEEEWWWW RECORD!!! Holy cow! I have NEVER seen it go so high! That was one hell of a game! We all got trapped for about 4 turns in the lucky zone and just kept going round collecting Mini Stars. It was great! (BTW, we had a conversion rate of 10 ministars = 1 normal star for the total rankings, so I got 7.6 stars in that game - which is apparently a bad result! ) For the 99% of you out there that have never played this game... I'm the one who lost Since I got 1 out of the 4 items you need to win the game, I got a measly 1.5 stars (the winner got 6!) This game is so much fun! Another weird game where all the stars came right at the end. I got 4 stars in the last 2 turns! But even that wasn't enough :p TBH, I think we all ended up losing more stars than we actually earned in the end. Those Bowser spaces and 2-Star hexes are ridiculously harsh! And now... the whole reason for the Mario Party-athon in the first place... Aaaand I lost (of course!) This course is weird (actually the whole game is weird! - it feels even closer to Wii Party than MP9 did!). We also did Rocket Run, where the whole match finished in the span of a single turn! (it was so weird that we ended up doing two boards in this game, since we had no idea what we were doing :p ) And the final rankings... I came last with a "crappy" 41.5 stars... first place got 50.5 (nice!) Fun times! BTW, here's my overall ranking of the series (not counting Advance, because it's single player only, e, since it's totally different, or IT, since the latter is too new to judge yet) 3>1>6>2>7=9>DS>5>4>Dog Shite>8
  15. That's not a big deal... the real question here is... ... will these badass mofos make a return? (I hope we get some all new ones too!)
  16. The game had a budget that was at least 1.5 times as large as Bayonetta 1, so they must've at least have expected a similar return as what SEGA got on that game (they wouldn't necessarily have needed to sell more since they get a larger margin on sales by virtue of not having to pay platform holder licence fees). It's possible that by that point they just wanted to cut their losses by skimping on the advertising costs, but that certainly wasn't the original intention...
  17. If they didn't believe in it, they wouldn't have funded it in the first place. Remember that Kamiya/Platinum were the ones who first came to Nintendo with the idea of it being a game featuring an all star cast of Nintendo characters. It was with Nintendo's suggestion that it was changed to a Power Rangers style of characterisation. And they gave Platinum ample time and budget to make the game they wanted. In Nintendo's own words Actually that volume of Iwata Asks is a really good example of how Nintendo approaches external developers in general TW101 was a very troubled project that, to Kamiya's own admittance even, didn't really come into its own until just a few months right before it launched. Some of the most very fundamental parts of the game (like Multi-Unite Morph) didn't get added until the end of May, just 2 months before the game got released! That's also why you didn't see much said about it until near its launch (and why Multi-Unite Morph and most of the game's mechanics weren't unveiled until right before the game's release in that special TW101 Direct)
  18. That's creepy... I was just wondering the same thing the other day! I'm pretty sure that even they must realise that last year was a horrendous mistake; a cowing away that still continues to haunt them today, with people still saying that they never "showed up" at E3. On the other hand, Nintendo are losing cash over fist right now and a flashy show would cost them a lot of money... (And would they even be able to show anything that would resonate with the E3 watching audience anyway?)
  19. This is a game that I found myself terrible disappointed in when I first played it when it came out, but on subsequent playthroughs have come to appreciate it much moreso. I felt that it seemed rushed and unfinished in places (and I still do) and I still feel that the Hotel Delfino level is still probably the worst "world" in the entire Mario series. That being said though, the game simply feels great to play; moving around and jumping is a true joy, most of the shines are fun to earn and most of the levels are well designed. Despite some bumps along the way (and too many heavy handed story cutscenes that do get in the way) and that dreaded blue coin hunt (which I will NEVER complete again!), I still think that it's a great game; ugly enemy character designs, horrible Bowser voice, crappy final boss battle and all. Some black spots on the Banana don't stop it from tasting great otherwise And what other mainline Mario game lets you kick a durian around like a football, none! That's how many
  20. I still enjoyed it myself, despite the significant problems that Zechs (rightly) pointed out. I feel that it's a game with flashes of brilliance, but it fails to build a solid foundation out of them. It certainly has its moments (like the whole Rachel sequence and the part leading up to where you find the comms officer, but it does feel disjointed and lacking in clear direction. The "puzzles" are utterly laughably pathetic, the environment doesn't offer enough non linear exploration and ammo is still too plentiful. That being said, I don't think it's impossible to meld the two styles. Hell RE4 itself actually ers much closer to the old style RE games than most people give it credit for - trading jump scares and intrigue for tension and overwhelming odds. It was RE5 that totally abandoned that old style (and also failed to replicate the good parts of RE4). I'd love to see the same team be given another shot at a similarly styled game. Given what they learned from making RE:R and RE6's critical reaction, I reckon that they could still make a good horror game.
  21. Oh really? I never actually knew that! I knew that there was a Mattel version of the console, but I didn't know it was region locked!
  22. Yeah it is a bit weird. We have ALTTP, Mario's Super Picross and SMB 3 in hand while they have Castlevania 1 & 2, Double Dragon and Super Punchout. No I have no bloody idea why they're starting to deviate again either Oh and they still have Mario Golf GBC while we don't
  23. The latter point especially is something that Iwata has been pushing for lately. That's why they're looking to things like Pokemon Bank, Jam with the Band P's Tomato music purchasing system and Wii Sports Club's day passes as a way of eeking out more of a margin from their games. Shall be interesting to see how they handle Steel Diver Subwars...
  24. Yup. All EU region 3DS consoles are the same. Australia is part of our region too BTW, so AU region games work on UK 3DS's and vice versa. The same applies to all Nintendo consoles, even as far back as the NES.
  25. Thanks On a lighter note, they look to be set for another great year of 3DS software - with the first half of the year looking to be stacked already with quality software like Kirby Triple Deluxe, Yoshi's New Island, Super Smash Bros 3DS, Etrian Odyssey TMG, Mario Golf World Tour, Layton VS Ace Attorney, SMT4, Sayonara Umihara Kawase & Nintendo Pocket Football Club; and those are just the ones they've already announced! There's still plenty of scope for more tentpole releases and localisations to come this year. So their Wii U woes don't seem to be really slowing down their 3DS schedule; and there shouldn't be a significant drought of 3DS software that they need to worry too much about...
